It was Mother's Day so everything was a little slow. We had seven people and were sat at a booth for 5 and 2 chairs at the end of the booth. This was not a pleasant seating arrangement. We will be back just not on a busy day. We really enjoy dining here but for the price we should always have a good experience.
The atmosphere is great, but our food came out lukewarm. They were very busy, but was really disappointed the food wasn’t more solid given I’ve been to several other locations with no issues.
Great venue, food amazing
It’s is a beautiful, classy place with amazing ambiance! Good food on the pricey side but great service:)
Probably worse experience I have had in long time at restaurant. Made reservations, was never asked on reservation if inside OR outside. Made reservations 7 days in advance. Upon arriving at our time, 6:00pm, none less, we were told the only open tables were outside on the patio, next to the valet and all inside tables were taken by walk ups and other “6:00pm” reservations.
Spoke with manger who didn’t care at all that this happened. Told my wife and I to basically, sit outside OR wait an additional 1h - 1.5 hrs for a table to open up. OR i could just leave and eat somewhere else. For a restaurants that “prides” itself on good service and charges $$$$ for food/experience, this felt like a drive thru and some 20 something manager was telling me to take it or leave it. No wonder why this establishment is losing its reputation BUT the owners do not care.
We sat outside and the view was outstanding. The service was excellent. We were checked several times by our server, as well as others. The food was great and ambience was so fun. Hard to beat for nice evening out.
Unaccommodating host staff. Foods over salted and not worth the money but the margs are great and the scene is always entertaining.
Wait time at table it long ...
Wonderful ambiance and service. Food is way overpriced. At $65 plus we expect the steaks to be cooked properly.
Great overall experience even though it was 5 de Mayo!
All ok nothing too fancy on food , just ok
A truly enjoyable meal in all regards — each bite was thoroughly delicious, staff were friendly, with fast service that provided just the right level of attentiveness. Highly recommend and we will be back
Doesn’t live up to the hype. This was my first time here, I was never greeted by my business name like I had told them I wanted a welcome sign for my business meeting there, as I requested on OpenTable app. I arrive with my party and welcoming by front staff was subpar. The music was extremely loud I could not even hear my own party at the table. I couldn’t even hear the servers asking me questions or even talking. The person who set up the mobile menu needs to be fired or something because the food choices did not even have a thorough description as to what I was even getting. My party ordered a shrimp plate it did not even include what was on the plate just said shrimp and some sort of white wine sauce. Another person in my party ordered a plate that had empanadas, taquitos, sopes, and enchiladas, and it didn’t even say what type of meat was in there. We asked the server what meat came inside and she said beef. We got the plate and it was nopales and chicken and beef and other meats and veggies— it was just an unpleasant combo. The temperature of our food was like room temperature as if it were sitting a while. The shrimp white wine sauce was salty and came with Mexican rice that was stale and hard like it was the rice from the side of the pan and the beans as well. Most of the dishes we ordered had some sort of nopales and we don’t even like nopales and that goes back to Poor construction of the mobile menu because if I had seen nopales listed in the description, I would’ve asked the server to take it out or not order that plate. We ordered aguachiles de Cameron and that was pretty much the only thing that was decent. We also ordered the chocolate cake and it was just like fudge it wasn’t even a cake. We wanted the guava cheesecake but they were all out. I can’t even believe they call this chocolate cake a cake because it was more like a fudge/Cold pudding/cake. It was hard to eat. Our bill was close to $250 and I feel so ripped off.
Not the usual high quality experience of Javier’s. The hostess was RUDE & refused to seat the 5 of us until our 6th guest arrived. Then she required all 6 of us to scan the menu bar code before agreeing to take us to our table. She was NASTY & a horrible representation of the company. Our 6th party member was parking & en route. The other 5 of us were eager to order margaritas and apps, but the hostess was not about to let that happen until our 6th arrived. Mind you I’ve dined at Javier’s for years & have never been treated this way.
Fortunately after being seated, we had an incredible waiter who took excellent care of us! It was back to enjoying the fabulous Javier’s experience we are accustomed to. First class service, delicious food & well crafted cocktails.
Not sure what the glitch up front was, but it seriously rubbed me the wrong way. There’s A LOT of fine Mexican dining in La Jolla. Maybe we will save Javier’s for Newport or Vegas only.
Great food, excellent service, awesome drinks, had a wonderful time with friends, we will absolutely return.
Difficult to dine when strollers are not allowed on patio seating
First time at Javier’s and overall experience was great! We were running late and missed our reservation past the 15 min grace period- but they were great and still seated us right away. The food and drinks were amazing!!! Will definitely be back!
The food was very bland and there was a lack of food options. I did think that the service was great.
Excellent cuisine and service as always!!
Reservations were made for 8:30 and did not get seated until 9:15. We understand that this is a busy restaurant and reservations are not always going to be on time. I think the staff can have a better attitude about it, as opposed to being rude and making us feel like we don’t know how busy Javiers can be. I live in the area and frequent the restaurant at least once per week.
Upon arriving the check in was easy and simple. The girl at the counter even wished us a happy anniversary which was a nice touch! The dinner was amazing both food and service were impeccable
The service was amazing and my margarita glass was never kept empty.
One of our favorites!
They require you to wear a mask while you walk to your table 🙄 even though the restaurant is packed with people eating. This rule makes no sense to me. And the hostesses are rude about it.
Customer service is not great. They make you wait until the entire party is there, they forget to text you when your table is ready… you have to keep checking in.
I go back for the food, because it is amazing! The surf n’ turf is one of the best!
Had the best bday dinner and amazing waiter and atmosphere was terrific!! Drinks were also delicious !!
Always the best drinks, food, and service!
The interior decor is stunning. And the food awesome. The crab enchiladas are the best we’ve ever had. Quite enjoyable experience. Service is quick, attentive.
The food and service were both amazing. If it's on the menu, you have to get the churros!
We showed up late to our reservation the Hostess refused to answer us with a wait time because we lost our spot. Another hostess then sat us outside , we waited 10 minutes for a server. We were the only ones sat outside the entire 2 hours we were there. It felt awkward and like a punishment.
It was a fantastic evening!!!
Food and service was great....was celebrating a birthday....they didn't do anything extra :(
Margaritas and chips and salsa are the best in SD!
Food was much improved compared to the last time I was here. Our server didn’t rush us like the last time we were here and we appreciate that,
The food is amazing, try the lobster enchiladas if in doubt what to order. It is a great place to people watch!
The food and drinks were good except for the salad.. nothing special and very small portions. The waiter was pushy and bordering on rude, trying to hustle us out saying “didn’t they tell you when you made the reservation that you only have 90min?” Turns out, we didn’t have to give up our table but we did move over to the bar - which was better.
It’s nice to see a very busy restaurant with interesting mix of people, but the music was way too LOUD. We don’t mind Spanish music but after awhile, it started sounding like loud mafia music..
Enjoyable time! The service is outstanding and the cocktails were excellent
Honestly just a great experience. Good food, great service!
The environment and service was outstanding from beginning to end! The vibe was kickin and the setting was entertaining! It was a little loud but that supports how much fun everyone was having! My waiter was outstanding! The food was outstanding! I highy recommend the enchilada taco combination! If you are in to wine they have a great Malbec! My wife's filet mignon was cooked to perfection! She finished it all which is a rarity for her. This place came highly recommended so I am highly recommending Javier's to all of you!! You're gonna love it! Great job everyone!!
Had a great time and the food and service were both wonderful😇
If you’ve never been, you don’t know what you are missing! Javiers is the reason we come to La Jolla. Make your reservations long in advance, it gets packed
