My friend and I just got our second vaccines and it was his birthday so we decided to safely treat ourselves to our favorite spot in NY . We are both from Austin and this place always reminds us of home !
Another excellent dinner at this lovely island of Tex-Mex goodness in the middle of NYC
We sat outside and the heaters weren't very strong; we were cold within an hour with coats on. The waiter was a bit slow, but overall we had a good experience. The food, as always, was delicious!
Freezing! Heaters did absolutely nothing
This is the third time we have been to Javelina since the lockdown started and the fifth time altogether. Every time the staff is so kind and always gets everything right. They are very understanding when I tell them about my food allergies. And the food is absolutely always delicious. The outdoor dining is as comfortable as it can be during these cold nights. The heater was just right, not too hot at all and kept us warm. I highly recommend Javelina!
Great place for brunch
Great service and great food!!
Service was great, and food was delicious. Highly recommend the queso! We sat outside in 30 degree weather and we were completely warm with all the heaters they had set up!
Food was great as usual. The outdoor space was cold. The wind was not blocked. Also, there was no beer :(
Great place for TexMex
I have been here at least 15 times before since it’s opening and this was by far my worst experience. I’m trying to give everyone the benefit of the doubt given external circumstances but this experience warrants feedback. We were the first table to arrive and be seated at 12pm outside. The tables were far apart, clean and the QR code menu was easy to use. Would have liked to see some space heaters as it’s definitely cold out now. Our server was actually the only server and also the bartender for the first 45 mins of service. During this time, 18-20 other patrons sat down and he was doing his best to keep up but it would have been impossible for anyone. What this meant for us though was that while we were able to quickly order our drinks and queso appetizer, in the next 30+ minutes without anyone checking in on us we finished our chips but had more queso which ended up getting cold/hard and we still hadn’t placed our main course order yet. We finally got the attention of the busboy (he was busting his butt too) and asked for more chips and if there was any way to receive a small amount of fresh queso (we didn’t expect a whole new bowl as we had eaten half of it). He ended up bringing the same dish back and it was clear they had just heated it in the microwave - which made it taste awful and I’m not sure it’s even sanitary to do so. 10 mins later we got the attention of a second server who had just arrived to place our main course order and a second round of drinks. The main course, chicken and steak fajitas, came out soon after and tasted amazing as usual. The real downfall here was the service but what bothered me the most was the manager. Her overall attitude was apathetic at best - from the moment we got there when she “greeted” us by having us just stand around instead of letting us sit while she put more tables and chairs out - to the minute we left. She rarely chipped in to help the server/bartender, which as a former server, really bothered me.
We ate outside and at least three homeless people came up to our table and actually reached over and tried taking our food -- I've never had that happen at a restaurant before and no one at the restaurant did anything about it.
Food was wonderful, staff great. Sat outside, as NYC'ers do, and it was great. The safety situation was good, with plenty of space between tables on a street (not ave). Noise info of course is not relevant right today :-)
Get the steak and sour cream enchiladas! SO GOOD. As a Texan living in NYC, good Mexican food is really hard to find. This place exceeded all my expectations!
Great staff And still the best Tex next in nyc!
Great outdoor dining!
Been here quite a few times and I enjoy it every single time.
I think they've done an excellent job of outside dining.
Have missed their fajitas during the pandemic and will be back!
This was my first time eating at Javelina. We had a reservation when they first opened at 12pm. We ordered coffee which came out cold (where it should definitely have been fresh and hot since they just opened, I'm assuming it was left out from the previous day). The waitress ended up bring out fresh coffee a while later and apologizing. The food was ok, I got the migas which didn't taste seasoned and the cheese wasn't very melty - it felt like it had been microwaved instead of cooked on a stovetop or in an oven. It was disappointing.
Tacos were subpar, margaritas were great. Overpriced
Food was not quite up to its usual standards but the waiter Russell was excellent. Guac was not as tasty as it usually is and some of the food was rather salty. Thanks to Russell we enjoyed our meal though and will be back.
The experience overall was good. The staff were friendly. But it felt like it took forever to get drinks! If the drinks had come out quicker, we likely would have ordered more.
It was great! The food was good, the service was amazing - I am glad we ended up here!
Great food and service!
The food was very good and the service was excellent. Enjoyed the experience.
Love Javelina’s and happy to see that they were open for outdoor dining.
Always great. Consistently fresh and friendly. Frozen margaritas the best. Staff is always friendly and helpful.
Solid choice in the tons to choose from in NYC. Food was fresh and tasty! Queso was the bomb!!
Unlimited chips! Like seriously nonstop
The margaritas had little to no alcohol in them
Javelina has consistently been a great place for friends or a date - everything there is amazing, everyone I take loves it, the servers are literally so lovely and helpful, I want to drown in all of there frozen margs- do I need to go on?? Only downside is I have no self control in there and every time I leave I’m literally so full I could die. Fav restaurant!
As always, Mr. Post and his team delivered an authentic Tex-mex experience from start to finish. As a fellow Texan, I am proud to recommend my friends to experience a taste of true Tex-mex all the way in NYC.
Expect to be rushed. Food was taken away before finished even after telling them twice we were still working. Great queso though.
Far and away the best consistent tex mex in town. Friendly staff and great frozen margaritas! Keep up the good work!
Food was amazing and the server kept giving us their amazing chips and salsa. Made our New York experience such a phenomenal one and for that we our grateful!!!!!
Friendly staff, loved the braised beef tacos, rice & beans and mango mint margarita was awesome! Great place to have fun with friends or family.
I used to love this place but it’s gone way downhill - so disappointing. The portions keep getting smaller and smaller! The chips were stale so we told the waiter and he kindly brought new chips but those replacement chips were also stale - we just let it go. Drinks were fine. The value is terrible - $14 for queso?!?! We decided we were going to find a new TexMex place for the next time.
Thet have the best queso that I have ever had and I love queso. Atmosphere is mediocre- nothing great but if you love different quesos, Javelina is a must! The service is very good- super attentine and personable.
Seating, food took a while - but comp’d with free drink
it was good, except no tamales that night. they ran out at 6:30. It is loud and hard to hear your friends, but not so crazy loud to keep from going there.
