Wonderful service, delicious food! Would definitely return!
Queso is a MUST!! And the chips are always flowing along with the margs :)
It stated heated seating but I guess they just meant indoors because outside did not have any. The food was good (queso, fish tacos, brisket tacos) and drinks were good but nothing to write home about. I think we were the forgotten table as we had to ask for cutlery and waited a long time for our server to take our order, come back for more drinks orders and bring the check, when multiple tables around us came and went. Wouldn't not go back again but won't be running back either.
Warm staff, awesome margs! Definitely suggest the Habanero queso.
Great food!
The food was very good and service was great (Anna)
Go, and order the queso. Any queso. Service is always outstanding, and the chips are always fresh and warm. Do it.
All was outstanding! Love this place!
Maybe it was just an off day but the food and drinks were not great
Vicky, the server/bartender, was amazing. It was the best customer service I have received in NYC in the last 8 years. She was very attentive and friendly. It was my friend’s birthday and she made churros (not on the menu) and put a candle in it. The churros were delicious!!
The servers here are always great! Super helpful, speedy and friendly. And the queso is banging.
I only wish the tables were a little farther apart outside. It was a little too close for my comfort level (though others may not mind).
I have been to this restaurant often and after outdoor dining. I have felt the restaurant slipping, but it is a neighborhood place for me and I have given it the benefit of the doubt. However the last visit has convinced me to move on.
The inattentive service was at the core of the problem. The order was not taken properly, food not delivered, water never refilled. I was asked about water, asked for it, and it was never given. My wife's order was not served, without explanation. At first we thought it was coming out but realized it was not coming. After some effort we asked about it to a different server, who said it was being "fixed". It was ultimately served, without any apology. Water was again offered, and never delivered.
Certainly this is not an inexpensive restaurant and better attention is needed to retain customers, even regulars like myself.
Great service and food. Very good value for the money as well.
Had a great dinner here with a friend. Had reservations for 8:45pm and we were seated right away. The queso sampler was amazing and we split tacos and enchiladas which were also very good. Frozen strawberry margaritas were delicious! Our servers were great.
Had an 8pm reservation and left after not being seated by 8:45
Here’s the deal, I’ve frequented Javelina for years (before an UES location existed). The food is great and nobody in NYC does queso like they do. But even pre-Covid, the service at this location has always struggled. They have the same staff now and it’s just gotten worse. Our reservation was at 7pm and the staff was JUST putting tables out. There was a line of people waiting for their reserved table when I walked up. The staff ignored us the entire night, until it was close to our 90 minute window ending, then they hounded us to leave. They brought us queso without chips, and we couldn’t get anyone’s attention until our food arrived. So our appetizer just sat there. And the real kicker was when I went to the restroom, I overheard the waitstaff talking about the tables, complaining about their customers and the tips they left. It’s just not a friendly place. And not a place I plan to go back to. I won’t even get into my horrible cinco de Mayo experience. I’ll just say, they’ve gotten more than three strikes from me and they’re out.
Waited over an hour for our food and got splashed by an incoming car on the avenue. Food never came. Filled up on chips. Rip
If you love queso dip, this is your place. They have the most amazing queso dip. They even offered queso flights. The food also seems way more authentic than most of the Mexican restaurants I eat at. They don’t have a huge menu and the food is no frills, just ingredients and the flavors. Oh and their margaritas are 👌👌.
The food was very good as well as the portion size. Just a bit pricey for Mexican food.
The food is fresh and drinks are great.
Portions are generous and service is friendly
Love Javelina. Best TexMex in the city! Hard to find good ground beef tacos. They have them!
The hostess was uninformed . I asked for two specific drinks which were into delivered correctly. The main course was not what I ordered. The place was noisy due to no sound reducing material and the chairs were uncomfortable
Don’t think we will return
Service was quick and efficient. Food was tasty. It’s very loud and it feel a bit like a fast food joint. The waiter had no idea it was National Margarita Day and judging by the lack of margarita specials, neither did management. The Mexican martini was way too tart and I was not able to drink it. The waiter gladly took it off my bill. I would return for the food as it’s hard to get Tex Mex north of Dallas.
Very poor service, food was overcooked. Server took forever and our drinks melted. It wasn’t that crowded and we say her 3 times in 2 hours
As a former Texan who experiences serious Tex-Mex withdrawals, I was very pleasantly surprised by the food and the margaritas. Definitely some of the best of both that I’ve had in NYC (and I’ve tried a lot of places). The service was also very good—waiter was kind, patient, and attentive. Front of house staff was a bit dismissive, but our waiter made up for the host’s shortcomings.
My only real complaint is that the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. The lights are what I would call “gas station bright.” If the lighting was even a little dimmer, the restaurant would instantly feel higher-end and less fast-casual. As I said, the food and drinks are very good, but it’s not cheap, so the atmosphere kind of does it all a disservice/makes it feel like you’re getting less value.
I grew up in Dallas. This place is the real deal. Love the enchilada and the margaritas. The highlight of the menu is the Bob Armstrong queso. Excellent place.
Food and drinks were delicious, we went for brunch and it was very quiet. Service received less stars because while the restaurant was basically empty (only 3-4 tables full), we were left standing at the hostess stand with another couple for almost 10 minutes with no one helping us. During this time, multiple waiters and waitresses walked by, looked at us and ignored us. Right as I was about to grab someone, a waiter came and sat us. The servers, while very nice, all seemed a bit frazzled despite the restaurant being slow.
The atmosphere is refreshingly bright (we could actually read the menu without squinting!)...but therefore don't go here for a romantic ambiance. The food overall was solid, and some items e.g. the brisket enchilada were a notch above. A welcome addition to the neighborhood, we will go back.
Fun UES boozy brunch location! All you can drink pricing saves a few dollars if you plan to get 2 or more drinks. Not a great bargain but food and drinks are worth it!
We were late for our reservation and Rolandos did not make us feel bad but was very gracious. How rare is that? I’m a native Texan so this is THE place for Tex Mex in NYC. No other place gets it. The Owner is Texan as is many of the employees. They are just nice, good at their job and personable. But oh the food! Excellent chicken tortilla soup. One of my faves is the chicken enchilada with tomatillo sauce. Very very good. Of course ya gotta get the queso. Very good margaritas too. Not too sweet but STRONG let me tell you. Fresh lime juice so not phoning it in. Great for any occasion. Love this restaurant.
I was so sad when Javelina UES closed due to a fire. They were closed so long I feared they were gone forever, but they are back and as good as ever. We were greeted with a generous amount of chips, smokey salsa. The yellow queso was great as was the guacamole. I love the chili here, so I made that my meal. Others had the Fajitas and they were great. Enchiladas were also good. Servers were all friendly and service was good. Nice little bar scene too. The food here is so much better than the other Mexican restaurant across the street. The food was a little pricey, but worth the experience I hope to be back at javelinas soon.
Horrible! Would not return. Woman working the bar was SO rude and was coughing all over people’s food. Absolutely disgusting. Food is average.
Server did not complete special oree
Great drinks. Wonderful food. And friendly staff. We took our 5-year-old and 2-year-old for dinner. The staff was great to them. The ambiance was relaxed and perfect for a family dinner. Will definitely go back.
So good!! We've been looking for Tex-Mex in the city and this is definitely the spot. I felt like I was home in Texas.
Great place, good food, great service ... can be loud at times.
Absolutely excellent. Went there for a party of 13. Staff was more then accommodating and friendly. It must have been difficult to keep the drinks coming but they managed to serve us all quickly and when needed. Food was very fresh and never delicious. We really enjoyed ourselves! Highly recommended.
Happened to go when they were serving brunch. It was amazing. I'll always come back to Javelina for the queso.
The food was excellent, and prices reasonable. We loved the fresh chunky guacamole with chips; went through 3 baskets of chips! We all had various tacos (fish, chicken and beef) with a good amount of seasoning and cilantro. They also offer some interesting dacquiris (prickly pear). Place is noisy but not too loud; energy was good with mixed crowd and ages. Only complaints were we couldn't be seated until everyone in our party arrived, and service was slow though all the waiters/waitresses were very nice and helpful with our questions.
Just wanted to prop the place up for the Tex Mex and man the queso is next level.
Angie our bartender was amazing! Great conversation, outstanding drinks and was always busy cleaning or just making sure everyone was good to go.
