Jasper Murdock's Alehouse
The Norwich Inn has a foundation that dates back to 1797 when Colonel Jasper Murdock served his first ale. Since 1797 the restaurant has constantly evolved to what it is today.

Norwich Inn Caesar Salad
Romaine, Croutons, Parmesan, House Made Caesar Dressing
Our server was very slow. Initial greeting was good, it took a very long time for our 1st beer to arrive. We ordered the Crispy Wings, they were not at all crispy. I ordered the Murdock Pizza, it was out, so I ordered the classic pizza and I was told the only modification I could have was pepperoni. The crust was nice, but the toppings of sauce, mozzarella and Parmesan were not exciting. My partner had the burger which was excellent. They did make the fries crispy on that plate. The expanded patio is very nice, although we couldn’t get our table to not wobble.
Server took a ver long time to get us drinks, and then was surly when we ordered a second round. Do nor order the pizza, which was bland and tasteless. Other food (burger, fish&chips) was good, but pricey.
Hi Brian, We are very sorry you had such a poor experience. It is our goal to ensure each guest enjoys their time at the Inn and it's obvious we fell short on this occasion. COVID has caused many transitions for us and in the past 2 weeks our daily covers has increased rapidly. We have team members back who have been laid off for 14 months and are learning a whole new form of service as well as a new P.O.S. system. We apologize that we could not meet our normal standards on this occasion.
A wonderful restaurant and pub! Classic New England, elegant, clean and friendly. A wonderful staff make you feel right at home. Sit on the front porch in rocking chairs to enjoy a drink.
A welcoming and attractive country inn dining room with an appealing but not large menu (salads, potstickers, burgers, grilled shrimp and chicken) and to die for desserts. Excellent cocktails.
Salmon nicely glazed; perfectly grilled
Had a magnificent stay at the Norwich Inn, including both dinner and the room were lovely.
Seated by a waitress, who was questioned about us having a reservation by another staff member , loud and in front of everyone, trying to call her out on something because we weren’t at the table the second party thought we should be.
We had been seated for ten to fifteen minutes at that point
we already had drinks
It was Prime Rib night when we went. It's not my favorite but I put in the preorder for both of us the week before. It was some of the best prime rib I ever had. The asparagus was done perfectly and baked potato with sour cream and bacon bits delicious. Since it's covid, they are only using a few tables so it was very quiet. I was disappointed the fire wasn't on, but all in all, a lovely experience.
We very much appreciate that you are staying open for (safe) in-person dining, The staff are wonderful, the food is wonderful, and it almost feels normal eating out except, of course, for the lack of many other diners!
Thank you!! We really appreciate you taking the time to post this. We are so happy you were able to enjoy our establishment. We are so thankful for your support during this difficult time. -Dave Burtonbush Innkeeper
great service, comfortable and nostalgic atmosphere, house brewed beers were very tasty.
was great...good selection to choose from...particularly wonderful burger and fries ! loved the fish and chips and the caesar salad was good...nice beer selection to choose from....great great staff make you feel very at home all the time....was a treat to go here.
Quaint Inn with good food doing a great job with the limitations of COVID restrictions.
Great place to eat!! Pub was really cozy, and the food was delicious!! It too crowded in a weekday!
Best burgers ever. And martinis. And Courtney is a treasure.
EXCELLENT SMALL MENU. PRICES STANDARD. DELICIOUS FOOD. CRAFT BEER ON TAP. SERVICE EXPERIENCED
Lovely inn good food excellent service did great job of utilizing covid guidelines they even put on a heater for me on the patio would recommend
The menu is limited but excellent. We had a burger, sweet potato fries, fish and chips --- very tasty. Good salad too.
Very enjoyable! Britney was great and Courtney makes the perfect martini 😉! The food was timely and tasty! Thanks
We sat outdoors in a socially spaced area behind the Inn.
Very overpriced; limited menu. A long distance from what it was pre-COVID
We Apologize that your last experience was very different from your Pre-COVID experience. You are correct that our menu is much more limited than it was prior to COVID. With the current restrictions on social distancing, capacity and current demands we are rebuilding our business slowly. We value your feedback and can assure you that we plan on expanding the menu offerings, hours of operation and hope to reach the levels of business and expectations of you our guests that we met prior to COVID.
A great spot to dine at during covid. 4 of us visited on a Thursday night to celebrate a birthday. The ambience was lovely. We ate on the patio, which was nice and shaded and surrounded by flowers. Tables were appropriately distanced, and the staff were attentive but did not hover, allowing us to stay distant. The beer was excellent and the food was great, minus one issue with one dish which the wait staff promptly exchanged for a new plate. I highly recommend the blackberry sorbet.
Patio seating with "social distancing" worked well. It was wonderful to be there again. Excellent salmon burger, new on the menu. The staff moved effortlessly from indoors to outside. I plan to go again soon.
Lovely evening to be outside on the patio! We had a great time!
What a wonderful server - friendly, efficient, fun.
Lovely establishment with great device and good food. Nice pub!
It is very pleasant sitting outside on their brick patio, The wait staff was excellent.
The social distancing and other Covid-19 precautions were all as one would hope.
This is the second time I have gone there under these circumstances and in both cases, all was just right. I return frequently for their cheddar burger---super!
Steak was wonderful. Best version yet.
We arrived and were sat on time, but no one came to our table for 15 minutes. We ordered 3 appetizers and drinks and it took 30 minutes to get our food. The food itself was fine, but a frustrating experience overall.
Hi Nicole, Thank you for your feedback. We strive to offer a pleasant, professional and efficient experience for all of our guests and apologize that we fell short on this evening. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to provide our normal standard of service on this particular evening. This is not our usual experience and we apologize sincerely that your experience was affected by our issues that evening. We value the feedback and will use it to hopefully prevent this in the future.
Kitchen needs to degrease their sauce. I ordered the lamb stew. It came in a bowl with a thin liquid like soup. The liquid quickly separated into fat and sauce with a level of grease (fat) floating on top.
My wife and daughter each ordered a burger. They were stacked and nicely presented but the meat was low on taste after you took away everything else.
We read prior reviews so we expected slow service and it sure was slow. Our waitress could have been better, she never mentioned any specials and seemed in a rush to take our orders. However much of a rush she was in, the kitchen certainly wasn’t.
However the room was nice but a bit loud.
Beautiful atmosphere, great friendly service. Food was worth the price. Definitely going back.
VERY slow service.
Caesar salad not as good as previous chef’s. English muffins are cooked so that bottom are overcooked a treat is undercooked. Otherwise everything is great!
Fantastic food, but exceptionally good service. Our server, Morgan, made sure we were comfortable the entire evening and offered plenty of suggestions about the menu. She made sure we had everything we needed, didn't forget a single condiment or side, and packed our leftovers up perfectly. We were well taken care of and would definitely go back again. A great date night!
The dining rooms have become really attractive: small bouquets of flowers, candlelight, twinkly lights and soft gray walls. Tables are nicely set apart allowing for easy conversation. I now have dinner there with a friend every several weeks and it never disappoints.
The Norwich Inn has a little gem of a restaurant! I have been there twice in the last month and both times it was a wonderful experience. The staff makes you feel at home. Ask for a table near the fireplace and you will feel warm a cosy while tasting delectable creations. A must visit in Vermont!
Service was a little slow. Beautiful venue!
Our family of 6 loved the Norwich Inn and being able to use Open Table to make the reservation. It was a great value for a historic Vermont Inn and the very fresh and delicious food. We enjoyed seeing the holiday decorations. We had a very satisfying evening there.
Wonderful food and service. One hopes that lunch will return sometime soon.
Excellent brunch/lunch; nice table, efficient service, reasonably priced
Nice meal for my group of three. Steak was excellent, chicken very good (only complaint on chicken dish was that the grain included with it was cold - and I was not expecting that, especially on a chilly fall night). We ordered the cheese board to start and it was terrific -- plenty of crackers (but still supplemented by a basket of bread - love my carbs!), three generous servings of cheese, mixed olives, pickled onions, and big dollops of fig and bacon spreads. Service was attentive but not overly. White wine by the glass choice was nice but not a big fan of the two red glasses we tried. Maybe better selection by the bottle? Desserts sounded good but we did not get that far! Restaurant is nice and cozy (as is the adjoining pub), with a fireplace close to where we were seated. This was the primary reason we chose to come to the Inn for dining - knowing that the atmosphere would be a treat.
