We wanted authentic Chinese and picked Jasmine. After making a reservation, while advisable, was unnecessary today, we had an enjoyable, if not pedestrian dinner. The food was good and the service excellent.
we arrived on time, but it took a while to seat us. Food is of decent quality with portion a little small.
DO NOT TRY TO RESERVE A TABLE! RESERVATIONS ARE IGNORED BY THIS RESTAURANT
One of the best Chinese restaurants in Manhattan! Nice staff, clean tables, good prices, and EXCELLENT food!
MaPo Tofu with fish fillet off of the lunch menu was outstanding.
too spicy despite asking for mild dish; not money worth for some dishes
Lunch special is good price and quality is good too.
This place is a gem! Great food, quick service, authentic cuisine, we will go back for sure!
I have tried the Sichuan cuisine at the restaurant and found it to be very authentic and tasty.
On a cold rainy night we slipped into this spot because it was close to our hotel and we were in the mood for Chinese food. Online comments led us to expect something a bit more high end, and despite the intriguing variety of Shanghai specialties on the menu we felt the food was undistinguished and the whole setting rather dispiriting. The service was perfunctory at best. On the plus side it is quiet and thus good for conversation, and the prices a bargain for the neighborhood. Perhaps if you know the menu well you might find some gems.
Very good Chinese. Interesting dishes like the sticky rice shumai. Very good. Also soup dumplings were good and the vegetable dishes as well. The pea shoots were excellent. We drank very good manhattans. It could be fun for groups. Quiet for dinner. More busy for lunch.
Used to be a nice chinese/Shanghai style joint in midtown. But a recent visit with friends was extremely disappointing. Dishes were very salty, and came up in such quick procession that you knew it was pre-cooked or, worse, returned by others. The saltiness took a day to get the swellness to recede and the after-taste left in the mouth took a whole lemon to wash out. And a $200 bill is an unworthy hole burned in the pocket. Reminding of the arrogance and lack of elegance of Chinese food in general.
They gave us a lovely private spot in the restaurant and served us quickly so that we were able to make our Broadway show. We had a group of 11.
The food was all terrific. Unfortunately, they called me later to accuse my students of having destroyed their restroom. That was not true; one of our adult advisers used the restroom before and after the students did, and there was no difference in the restroom. I'm sorry that someone apparently trashed their bathroom, but it wasn't my group.
I was surprised when they told me that they really don’t pay attention to reservations at lunchtime and I had to insist on them honoring mine!
I found the greeting staff to be rude, however the waiters themselves were fine. My lunch partner had the General Tao Prawn, which was just deep fried prawn with a sweet and sticky corn syrupy sauce poured on top - good General Tao is excellent but this was a poor excuse. My shredded beef with chili was decent, except that the beef wasn't shredded and there was not much chili....hot and sour soup was too spicy - not in a flavourful way.
Food is good and authentic, specially with some home cooking dishes, which is really good sign!
Surprisingly the restaurant was not too noisy thanks to that tables are set reasonably apart.
Service is polite but nothing more.
Half full house on Saturday night....
Large portions of authentic Chinese food, typical Chinese slightly grumpy service
The service is not equal the standard of the food. The food I'd very taste however the customer will expect the equal service all g with the quality of the food. It needs to be balance a bit. Bathroom keys in ladies are also not working.
I was so embarrassed - I brought 2 guests here to lunch and it was like dining at Fawlty Towers. On arrival we were greeted by a surly manager who then failed to return or send a waiter over for 15 minutes even though we told him as we sat down that we had a 1,5 hour time constraint! We ordered tea and had to chase it a second time. The waiter who eventually arrived was sweet but was unable to answer any questions about the menu. He also got the order wrong- we ordered a dish of Curry Shrimp - a standard menu item. He brought out a Thai Chicken dish. We disputed the order- and they were quite indignant saying they don't have curry shrimp- even though the table next to us had a plate. We asked for another shrimp recommendation. The Manager recommended a dish pointing us to a picture of spicy shrimp peeled with just tails intact, flash fried with some chilli- looked delicious. What arrived instead was a soupy dish of unshelled shrimp drowning in a tasteless sauce - too hot and unpleasant to peel, overcooked shrimp and devoid of taste. We gave up after just wrestling with one each. My guests and I just looked at each other with irritated amusement because the service was so appalling and we had spent 1,5 hours without getting a satisfactory meal.
This is my third time here and I always loved it. Brought a few friends here and the enjoyed it as well. Some of them even ordered food to go. Food is very good and plenty. Would definitely go back.
Love the fried rice
Nice neighborhood restaurant. The chicken dumplings were very good. My shrimp, bok choy and noodle dish had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. I was really disappointed. I should have ordered a Sichuan dish.
My husband was happy with his tried-and-true chicken with cashers.
I've been looking for a good restaurant to replace one that I love which closed, this place filled the void. Food was great and the service was wonderful.
Food awesome, best Chinese food in NYC
took 40 minutes for food which was too long
The food here was amazing, as well as the atmosphere. Very chill, with excellent service. The portions are huge and the food is delicious, would highly recommend.
Food was really good. Restaurant was clean. Wait staff was attentive.
the Spicy chicken was good, sautéed asaparagus was yum and a good mai tai. Enough food to share
We had satisfactory meal--the prolonged belly entree was tasty. But it missed the wow factor. Good but not great.
One waitress keeps getting our order wrong
We enjoyed the delicious food, well prepared and served in a very friendly manner. We have eaten here several times before this and we will certainly return.
Excellent authentic Chinese food in a pleasant envt
A real find. In a city filled with Jade, good luck, tings and tangs offering fungible food and menus ... along comes a special place. Jasmine is a unique Chinese dining experience. Unusual foods with special prep. My favorite is shrimp with Gogi berries. Portions are large. Especially true of soup where only siaae available will easily serve five!
You dont want to miss this escape from "One from column "A" dining". Truly a very special get-away. Often I find myself the only Eastern face . Populated by the folks that should and do know the special chinese food experience.
This place service very good spicy food. There are good deal for lunch time. I prefer to order spicy food from the regular menu. It is on the noisy side as it gets crowded for the lunch time.
I will only say I live very close to this restaurant but very rarely come here because the food is very poorly made. When I am lazy and dont wanna cook, I come to spend money and dine here. But really made my decision nothing is good enough for me to come back again.
Too much MSG. It's ok in general.
I read reviews before booking and the reviews supported the experience. Servings are large.
Give the Port Knuckle a miss as it was soggy and dry.
All other dishes were good.
A River Mondavi Merlot was the highlight.
We will be back.
Great Sichuan food; quite authentic, portions are huge actually too big if you want to try several dishes
A good chinese restaurant
