Jardiniere Ratings and Reviews
The service for this type of restaurant and price point was slow and lackluster. The food was good but again, price point, would have expected a little more flavor in return. Cocktails were amazing. I’d probably pass on this restaurant next time given the poor service.
Still good after all these years, but despite the fact we had reservations through OT, there was an attempt to seat us (two women) at a bar type table when the regular restaurant (white table cloth side) was open. Once we had been seated properly, the rest of the evening was fine. Our waiter was excellent and the food was quite good...
Absolutely fabulous as usual !!! Everything about Jardiniere is exceptional. The service is remarkably extraordinary, as is the food.
It is our go to restaurant every year to celebrate a special December birthday and then go to the Symphony to see Handel’s Messiah.
The food was perfect from beginning to end. Just simple food prepared perfectly without trying to be overly complicated or trendy. Its easily one of the best meals I've had in recent memory, and this is coming from a long time SF local that has sampled much of what the city has to offer but just never made it to Jardinere until now.
The service was terrible though. Our waiter was inattentive and at times rude. We didn't even get the obligatory "how is everything" a couple of minutes after the main was served. I still look forward to going back though and will chalk it up to our waiter having bad day.
I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time. The chef/owner is from my same small hometown and my B-I-L worked for her dad as a ranch foreman. So great that Ms Des Jardins has made such a name for herself in the chef world. The food was delicious and well prepared. Nothing too over the top as Jardiniere has a fairly broad customer base being a "go to" standard restaurant in SF. The crowd looked like a majority of older, seemingly well off people. I think the appeal is to excel without being overly adventurous. It's a very beautiful restaurant making any meal there feel special. I don't drink wine so can't say anything about the wine list. Our table had the duck and Monterey cod entrees. Conjured up memories of our meals in France. Desserts were also very good as was the crab appetizer. We weren't rushed through our meal and service was very attentive without being intrusive.
With as many times that we have been to Jardiniere this is the FIRST TIME I'VE HAD BAD FOOD!
I ordered the chicken for the first time and it was TOO DRY!! I asked the female server for some sauce for it but she said they did not have any!! Wrong answer!! the male server found some for me.
Still too dry breast meat ---- all was not lost though --- as our three dogs had a great snack of dry breast meat from the chicken.
Dined there before SF Opera "Turandot." Every experience is a real treat - from the genuinely warm greeting at the host/hostess stand, to being taken upstairs and seated, to the wait-person and all the staff who bring food and drink, clear the table, etc. The food is superb.
I am a foodie who ran a culinary school, so I expect good food from a great restaurant. I have life-threatening allergies and asked if they could accommodate them with the duck. If not I'd eat a second or third choice because I wanted good food. I was delighted to hear that they could. Well, they couldn't. All the chef did was put the duck over dry quinoa with overly salted plain greens, leaving off 3 components of the dish. Accommodating is changing not removing. I would have happily eaten something else that had a flavor balance. My food was a one star, but I gave 3 because my husband's was good. The manager apologized and took my meal off the bill even though I ate most of it (I was starving). That made it better. I will return, but with even more explicit directions next time.
Really loved our dining experience. We live in the city and it had been 5 years since we had been to Jardiniere. Not sure why we waited so long. We started with the Caviar and what a treat, the presentation was perfect and as we started on our last Bellini more we're coming out to our table. Can't wait to go back.
The dinner was generally very good. However, the fois gras was somewhat disappointing. Perhaps the terrine treatment was responsible, but I found the serving scanty, and the goose liver itself seemed thin and watery. Perhaps I was spoiled by the course served in Paris which was very dense in texture and intense in flavor. It fared better on the Acme roll than the toast served with it because the latter tended to further dissipate the frail flavor.
The service went a long way in making up for the disappointment with the shared course. My main course, the quail, was absolutely delicious and completely satisfying. My companion was very pleased with her choices.
Hello Jardiniere Managers! Love your place but there is something wrong about your comp Mushroom Tea cups (or any plates) sitting on our table throughout dinner and not being removed until we pay the bill. RIGHT? And let's chat about the wrong dish arriving. I don't need the waiter and then a GM to argue about it - hey I just came for a great meal. You brought me the wrong dish and never brought the right dish until 25 minutes after my dinner date had her plate - I'll come back but can you correct the attitude of your Staff? Or do you not really care about we local San Fran people ? FYI the tiny bowl of Spaghetti with duck liver was delicious once it arrived but might want your Staff to advise it's tiny - menu suggestions are so welcome to me and guests. We'd have ordered more dishes had we been advised.
Jardiniere was busy on this Sunday night. We celebrated a birthday with warm acknowledgement from the staff. Started with the charcuterie. Really enjoyed the spaghetti with oysters and bottarga ( my star dish) and the black cod with chanterelle and lentils. Apple galette for dessert was fine.
Once again Jardiniere did not disappoint--this was one of my best dinners there. The oysters were excellent as usual, and the gold rice with squash and white truffles was fully worth the steep price. My waiter Ojoli helpfully brought baguette slices to accompany the cheese (the flavored bread was not suitable), and the wine steward recommended an excellent wine (by the glass) to accompany the rice dish.
Also enjoyed my late-night visit on Saturday to the bar--wine, food and service were great as usual.
We requested for a table, one where we normally sit, but it was given away. We want to be sure that we get the same table as we made the request two week ago when we were there. We sat that table just about every time we dined there. Also, I confirmed my request when I was called to confirm my reservation.
The staff was otherwise cordial and was helpful to attend to our needs. They were informed that we would need to leave in time for a pre-concert talk. We ordered deserts and coffee. Deserts timely arrived. When we finished our deserts the coffee had not yet arrived. The coffee was canceled as it was time to leave. As we left the host graciously apologized to for the inconvenience.
I would describe Jardiniere as the perfect third date restaurant. The ambiance is elegant, welcoming, and romantic. The service is absolutely incredible! We were treated like royalty from the moment we walked in the door. I ordered the chicken, and we were presented with complimentary mushroom tea. Both were absolutely divine, and it was apparent they were prepared with love. The seasonal sorbet is a must! I will be returning, I just need to go on a first and second date :)
