I don’t wan to be that guy who complains. The food was excellent. The server, brilliant. But we had four
Wonderful evening. The tasting menu was killer, as was the service and ambiance.
Delicious meal overall, fantastic service in a gorgeous setting. Felt very well taken care of at every point. Highlights were the cocktails, the perfectly shucked oysters, and the starters. The fried quail main was pretty good but the wagyu beef underwhelmed.
Great atmosphere. Best foie gras in SF. Perfect night out. Thank you!
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The food and ambience were of the highest quality. This was my first experience with the pre-theater dining, the only option if there is a performance going on, as the regular menu doesn't start until 7 pm. My dinner companion felt the prices for a relatively small glass of wine were high. Portions are small, so anyone expecting to have a more robust dinner, and is not going to the theater, will be disappointed.
This restaurant never disappoints! The food was great, especially the salads.
Jardiniere has long been our favorite place to eat before opera or symphony - but no more. We are old: I'm 90 and my wife of 67 years is 89. The portions offered by restaurants are just too large for us. We are not alone; old people commonly want and need smaller portions. We would typically order one each of an appetizer, a main dish and a dessert, and share all three. But with Jardiniere's current policy, that is no longer possible: they offer only a prix fixe menu which they do not permit us to share. In addition we did not find the food of the quality we had come to expect at Jardiniere: my salmon was marred by a sauce and herbs that spoiled the subtle flavor of the fish and my wife was not happy with the ribs she had ordered, The dark chocolate dessert was excellent however. And our waiter was very fine.
This was our first time at Jardiniere and the food and service and ambiance were outstanding -- and exceptional experience all around! We are thinking of having a birthday celebration here now, and will be back for many dates to come!
Love the place but they were off this time. Service was slow and inattentive. I expect more at this price point.
Our service was surprisedly spotty- some confusion over who took what order it seemed. Both of our entrees were disappointing sadly (waiter recommended pork dish was overcooked and suveed salmon was OK but a bit flavorless). Both of our salads and our desserts were fantastic. Wish I had had a 5 star experience but still lovely in the end.
Imaginative and delicious food, well prepared and served.
The menu was the chef special Noches en Mexico, a delicious and creative experience.
This was the best of the Noches en Mexico series, which overall has been great.
My only complaint is that we were seared too close to the people’s next to is up a level. I would have preferred more privacy,
This was my first time to Jardiniere and it was absolutely lovely! The food and service were really excellent. The server was able to accommodate a few dietary restrictions I had without a problem. This classic SF establishment has wonderful ambience.
Famous, gorgeous, impressive as always. I forgot that it does tend to be a bit too noisy.
Special pre-opera prix fixe was very good, foi gras was fabulous, craft drinks were great, choc. dessert was luscious.
I declined both the Rose and a recommended Sauv. Blanc to go with the unexpectedly spicy pork - and they gave me a glass of Prosecco as Consolation! So sweet of them to do. They also gave us a seat on the railing when I requested one as my friend had never been to such a special place.
I liked the fixed price menu. It was perfect since we had opera tickets.
Always wonderful, especially before the theatre with their new menu for those evenings.
Traditional caviar & service is rarely found anymore. This is the place for it and it keeps me coming back for 20-years.
The salmon was blan The foigrois was lovely Service was excellent
Always FANTASTIC in every way . Good food, ambience, service, & clientele.
Dinner at Jardiniere was a superior dining experience. Service with Rob could not have been better. The creativity of the kitchen in each and every dish was sensational. It's no exaggeration to say it was flawless. The figs with coppa appetizer was a great compliment to the fois gras terrine. Both are salads were delicious. But the sensation of the evening was sharing the salmon with corn -- probably the best salmon I have ever had in a restaurant. And then the duck which was just as superb. What a great experience.
It was our first time at the restaurant. WE SHARED A BIT OF FOIS GRAS WITH THE IN-house fried bread,...OTT. NEXT MY HUSBAND HAD TH3 CUCUMBER SALAD & I had the halibut appetizer. For our main course, he had the quail & I had the poussin (chicken). We were over the moon with dinner...DELICIOUS. The wine sommelier, Mark, was extremely knowledgeable & friendly. I had a Lasalle champagne before dinner...if you like champagne, it is worth a try...such a perfect champagne. We chose a Sancerre with our dinner. An espresso after dinner...delicious FRENCH dinner!!!!
Excellent service and food - except that the peaches with my duck were not ripe (and therefore very hard). Duck itself was delicious as was my husbands soup and entree.
Extremely convenient for before theatre dining.
The chicken and pasta entree's were very tasty with various tastes and and textures. However, the portions were almost tasting size; surprising when compared with past visits. Service was excellent, as always.
We have been here before and generally got what we expect, high priced, high quality food but small portions. I always called it the "Stop for some fast food on the way home" restaurant. We often go there for it proximity to the Opera. You can valet park there and come back for desert after the opera. This was not the case this time as it was our anniversary.
This time my wife's $34 spaghetti dish was very disappointing as the presentation was in a small bowl and would have been a good appetizer. Its presentation could have been more grand with a little color.
I ordered a beer. I did realize they only serve bottle beer, but they brought it out in a can and poured in my glass at the table. Canned beer at such an expensive restaurant is not acceptable.
One last issue was we valet parked there as usual and we came out to get our car and our car was right in front of us at the curb. We thought the attendant was getting another car so we waited. My wife was getting cold after 10 minutes and went inside. She asked the hostess where is the valet attendant and she told us he was gone and presented her our keys. Why no sign, we could have stood there for an hour??
tired, mediocre food; perfunctory and supercilious service; extremely disappointing given the owner's reputation
Well I've dined here several times and had everything done properly. I took a guest to have them try your impossible burger. The waiter grabbed the wrong order as I also had the impossible burger but without cheese as I am vegan. My associate ate alone as my burger took another ten minutes. As you know this makes for a very uncomfortable dinner experience as we had entrees served apart and we ate our dinners not together but alone?? The staff didn't charge for my burger but regardless a bad experience all around. Mark Schultz
As San Francisco residents, we always meant to dine at Jardiniere as we have heard so much about the restaurant for so many years. For us, however, it was a very mixed experience. Service was off as we felt rushed between courses, bread was never served (even after asking for it), plastic wrap left on fois gras (which was rightfully comped) wine was finally served as we finished our entree. Beautiful space and very quiet on a Wednesday evening, as we enjoyed a good table in the balcony. Not very sure we would return with so many other choices in The City. I wish I could be more positive about the evening.
We had a nice dinner, but it was extremely off putting to arrive and be told that they were only offering a fixed price three course Mexican menu with drink pairings. I feel like I should have been informed of this when making the reservation. The food was good- not amazing. If I wanted Mexican, I would have gone to a different restaurant.
Classic restaurant that knocks it out of the park.
Perfect for date night!
Disappointed. Heirloom tomato salad with barely any tomatoes; pommes frites that were too salty; pork belly that was tough, dry, and flavorless. The cocktails were the only bright spot.
We had an outstanding dinner at Jardiniere. Superb! The dinner we had there lingers in my memory.
My go-to restaurant when I go to an Opera or Concert, and worth driving or Ubering to at others times as well
Wish the wines were priced better, I.e., lower. Didn’t find it a good value.
Fresh ingredients, outstanding service, lively but not too noisy. Great place for business or pleasure.
The food was outstanding. The service was wonderful.
