Walked out - plenty of open tables but we were sat at a poor table initially, one where we had people literally looking down on us. Asked to be moved - server kindly did so, then came back saying she had been yelled at and we needed to move again. Stuck us at a table right next to the bar where you have the wine guy hovering and with a wine bucket right next to your head - all while still plenty of empty tables. And by the way this was after 10:15 so after theater crowd had come in (I know because we were at the theater).
This used to be a classy place - empty tables, the menu we looked at and the way this whole issue was dealt with say those days are gone. Definitely a first world problem to complain about a table - but hard to understand why a simple request was made to feel so awkward. I know they would say the other tables were reserved in some way - but at that time? I doubt it. Could have been so easily solved. We left because they made us feel like bad people for asking to move.
Amazing food. Short menu. Great wine.
Service was excellent--menu not especially to our liking
I’ve been eating dinner prior to attending SFBallet since the restaurant opened. Always a wonderful experience. Thank you Jardiniere!
It’s been several years since we last dined here. The food was good, but not great. I had the duck and didn’t think too much of it , my wife and our friend had fish and they enjoyed it. The dessert was good along with the service, but I don’t think I’d go back.
Excellent service... Food was delicious...sea bass tasted a little undercooked..other than that lamb..bread salad and cheesecake excellent! Loved my waitress with the flower of life earrings :-)
I so appreciate the excellent service at Jardiniere. We ordered a salad, two appetizers and an entree and the kitchen plated everything for two people (half of each item for each person) which was the perfect amount of food for us. Vegetables are all flavorful and beautiful, the crudo is pristine and composed with tasty garnishes. My favorite cocktail (Oaxacan forest) was no longer on menu but the bartender still made it for me. They did not make us feel rushed at all but served us in time so we could make our show.
Simply wonderful, food, quiet atmosphere at 5:30, service, just what we needed after a hard day/week/month/year.
Lovely experience for our anniversary. Service was great. They even put the flowers my husband brought in a vase while we were there.
Food was also amazing. They have the Impossible Burger here and it was delicious!
Our waiter Scott was fabulous! He was super attentive & very nice. Our food was so delicious service was very fast. my boyfriend and I had a wonderful anniversary here
Some of the rudest service I have ever had. Food is overpriced and mediocre. Would not go back
I love that the staff at Jardiniere are so accustomed pre symphony patrons. They ask what time the symphony starts and even make recommendations for dishes that arrive fast to the table. We only had 40 minutes to eat but no one made us feel rushed. The simple focaccia and burrata dish was delectable. The almond cake was a piece of art. We loved our experience and will definitely be back soon
I dropped back into an old favorite, Jardinier, the other night and the caliber of the food seems to have stepped up a notch, from excellent to extraordinary, since the last time I was there. It’s always good, but this time it was superb. I’ll be back more often!
Wonderful food and impeccable service. Great cocktails.
I just want to comment on the service as the food and experience were excellent as always. My wife was trying to get our waiter’s attention but failed. But what stood out is that a waitress, Marla, saw my wife’s gesture, came to our table and graciously met her want. Service beyond the call. Thanks to Marla and the staff
I don't think it's as special as it once was--maybe because there's so much competition. My gripe is that they sat us downstairs in the "main dining room"--a very ordinary space separated from the bar by a limp shower curtain.
Service was great, food fantastic, it is my 3rd time and I am not disappointed.
Friendly neighborhood environment
Delicious foods wonderfully, creatively and carefully prepared. Their gluten free cornbread is amazing!!!!
Great place for dinner before symphony. Sometimes a little slow in serving the dinner.
Really poor service across the board, from waiting 30 minutes to get our drinks, to trying to avoid engaging with our waiter for fear of making him upset. The restaurant was not crowded and we were dining late, not sure how at the end of the night with a pre fixed menu things were so off. It actually felt like a group of people decided to play restaurant for one night and be purposely bad at it. Luckily the dining options in SF make it easy to avoid returning to this restaurant. I feel bad for customers that are sucked into going here to do close proximity to downtown attractions. Good luck playing restaurant.
Everything about this restaurant was a joy! Beautifully designed space, excellent food quality, great service and creatively made cocktails! Great restaurant to celebrate any occasion.
I can't wait to return to Jardiniere!
Excellent wine service
The second floor not open today. Servers are not enough. They seems not professional.
We had not eaten at Jardiniere in quite some time but gave it a try on a recent Saturday post matinee performance. We were very pleasantly surprised. The menu options are more limited than they used to be but everything we had was quite good: spring vegetable soup, burrata, watercress salad, warm bread salad, pasta offerings (spaghetti a la chitarra and cavatelli), and a chicken dish featuring the tenderest chicken ever. For wines, we had prosecco for aperitif and Grecco di Tufo for the rest of the meal. The service was good, the sommelier was knowledgeable and helpful and the price is much more reasonable than it used to be. As always, the jazzy décor was part of the experience. We will make an effort to return on a more frequent basis.
Unique and interesting restaurant. Great vibe! Tasty cocktails. And some very good food.
Perfect evening from start to finish
Jardiniere never disappoints. The service was flawless, our dishes were approachable and thoughtful as was the wine. The ambiance is old San Francisco meets business-fashionata-artist types" in a beautiful backdrop. The only negative was the host (older gentleman) who we found to be uncomfortably unfriendly. Highly recommend if attending the symphony or any other gala in the area
Too much premature plate snatching. It felt like everyone was in a hurry to go home...at 8:30.
Never fails to please! The food is original, fresh and delicious and the staff is such a delight -- over and over and over!! Simply the best!
All in all, it was good. The service was a bit slow, given that they knew we had a 7:30 curtain call but we made with about 10 minutes to spare. The food is very good and nicely presented. It IS pricey for size of the servings. Be very specific if you are asking for substitutions. They got our orders all mixed up but we managed. If you are going to the ballet, symphony or opera, this is THE most convenient location but be prepared to have a big bill. There are less expensive options in the neighborhood but nothing like the quality you get here
We had a great experience in dinning. Are waiter was attentive and well informed. We enjoyed everything we ordered.
Service was awful. Took 20 minutes to get a bottle of wine because we the sommelier was serving a private party (still don’t understand why the server couldn’t bring it - usually the sommelier advises and server can serve). We got our appetizers and they were fine. Then it took an HOUR for our entrees to arrive. They were very small portions, and good but not outstanding - the lamb was 1 chop from a rack, a few pieces of pork belly, and a small cake of shredded pork - for $38! Another high-end SF restaurant where you need to go to In-n-Out burger after. We ordered decaf coffee, and when I wanted a refill, I could not get anyone to notice me for 15 minutes. There was one bidder just standing there looking down to the first floor, and though I was waving my arm; couldn’t get any of the servers to notice. At the beginning of the the server asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. I asked if it was expensive bottled water or house made. He said housemade. When the check came, the server had charged us $5 for sparkling water. When asked why he was charging us, he replied “I said that it was housemade, not that it was free - which is what housemade fizzy water means in all other restaurants in SF. Rather than just saying “sorry for the confusion, I’ll take it off the check,” he said he had to get the manager. The manager started explaining their water policy and I said “just take it off the check,” which he did. I told him about all the delays and inattentive service, and he just said “Sorry.” I said “how about you throw in the decaf ($8) for the bad experience?” and looked like I had asked him to shoot his dog! ;-) He eventually did. I didn’t care about the money, just the lackadaisical attitude towards the bad service. So Jardiniere seems like another one of those “All-hat, no cattle” restaurants, where the PR team, not the restaurant team, is responsible for obtaining all the plaudits.
Went with the family while on vacation in San Francisco, because the restaurant was recommended in an article. The restaurant was beautiful and the food was amazing. Great wine list, and such an accommodating staff. Wonderful.
Pre-ballet dinner was good but the service was inconsistent. There were long periods without any attention from the wait staff. Almost missed the opening curtain of the ballet.
One of the best place I’ve been to recently. The Waygu steak was memorable, the service impeccable, the atmosphere very intimate. Superb choice for a special date.
A very nice quiet evening because the opera, symphony and lecture halls were dark. Jardiniere is a place for a special evening.d
We celebrated an engagement at this establishment on Saturday night. The service was attentive and the food was quality.
Over priced food, small portions. Left hungry but with a big bill.
