Our waiter Michael was divine! He made our night extra special and was very attentive. We all wanted to try the famous “impossible burger” and it did not disappoint. Amazing. A great evening all around. Still one of the most beautiful restaurant interiors in San Francisco.
Great service and wonderful atmosphere. Waiter was very attentive and the food
Perfect place to grab a cocktail or a nice dinner before a show. Conveniently located next to opera house and symphony hall. Nice ambience and service, food was good as well.
We had a great night, with dinner spectacular !! We’ll be back soon!!
great and engaging service from our server. The meals, duck breast and sea bass, were delicious and the presentation excellent. The ambiance was welcoming and enjoyable.
Let me start by saying the obvious, Jardiniere has a first-class reputation. I went there based on an associate’s recommendation. We hosted a business dinner last night and the restaurant accommodated my last second request for a table for six, instead of four. We found the food to be delightful, but the pacing of everything was off. Lengthy gaps between our order, first course, second course. We were so frustrated that we asked for the check when the entrees were brought out. The server nor management appeared to notice any of this, nor explained the source of the delays. I was also shocked that the server spilled beer on my napkin, covering my pants, and never made an accommodation for this. Bottom-line, the bad service was what we talked about, not the wonderful food. A great restaurant with a first-class reputation must execute flawlessly for every customer.
We loved the start of our meal. The oysters were wonderful, but then the entrees were not what we expected. The squab was extremely dry, tasteless and uninspiring. My son had not had squab before so didn't realize how poorly it was executed until we tried it. By then it was too late to send it back. It was unfortunate because it was his 20th birthday and we were hoping it would be a very special evening for him. The sea bass was the better entree.
Excellent food & service. Extremely convenient location (for concerts).
I was skeptical about all the Yelp reviews that complained about long waits for food as well as price above value. Unfortunately, the reviews were justified based on my experience. The appetizer and salads came quickly but our entrees took 50 minutes to arrive. We had to skip dessert because we ran out of time. The waiter recommended a cabernet that was supposed to be full-tasting but it turned out not to be, so I sent it back. These are things that lessen the pleasure of dining, alas. I won't be going back again.
Food was like always absolutely delicious! We are big fans of Tracy! But our waiter’s performance was absolutely awful! Rude and extremely unfriendly! He clearly didn’t want to work last night. Too bad, because service is such a big part to the whole experience!
Over priced and service was not personable. Atmosphere was nice but service lacked personality. The appetizers were fantastic. The entrees were not as good. Drinks were just ok. Went there for my wife’s birthday.
Jardinere always exceeds my expectations
Great bday celebration dinner
While the food at this long-time favorite is still very good, some of the dishes we recently had were merely good, not great. The winter vegetable soup was okay but underwhelming. The kanpachi fish crudo was lovely but, again, not a "WOW!" Short rib and sea bass were both excellent. And while our waiter and servers were excellent, the host at the check-in podium and the hostess who took us to our table were very perfunctory and business-like, almost rude. The restaurant needs to iron out these flaws and once again become the great destination that it used to be.
The food and table service was terrific. A great experience.
While 4 of our 5 dishes were excellent (roasted vegetable salad and the cavatelli really stood out), the service was not what I expected for a restaurant of this price point. We waited over 30 minutes between each course. I understand the concept of a more European dining experience, but neither my husband nor myself were drinking that night (despite being pressured several times by our server) so I would expect faster pacing of the meal. Also our server was rather condescending, and we had to pry information out of him regarding the menu and recommendations. There are so many options in San Francisco that I likely will not return.
We had pre theater dinner. Service was so slow that we had to eat our main course in less than 15 minuets.
Lamb was lukewarm and tough.
May be it is better if you avoid the pre-theater rush.
The interior of the restaurant is stunning. I liked that the tables were not too close together and that the five us us were able to hear each other across a round table. But as others have said, it is expensive and for the price, the food is skimpy. We have eaten in most of the restaurants near the Opera House, and this was by far the most costly. The wine list is very, very expensive with almost no choice for 'medium' priced wines. Do people really pay $1600 for a bottle of wine? The wines tended towards European rather than California. It took 1 hour and 20 minutes before we were served our main course, and while we waited, the waiter came over twice to see if we wanted another bottle of wine. We felt somewhat pressured as we were sitting with our wine glasses empty as we waited for our main courses to arrive. As for the food, I felt that the chef was trying to be 'creative' and it didn't always work. Some of the dishes were quite good, but I had a pasta that was completely inedible - pork sausage drenched with what tasted like broth made from anchovies. It didn't work. Everyone at my table tasted it and felt the same. Although the others at the table spoke with the waiter about it, he never asked me how it was even though my bowl was almost still full when the table was cleared. I didn't find the service particularly good. We won't return again.
The timing of the meal was off. When we first arrived the server asked if we were going to the theater, which we were. He said 8pm start time? Yes. Long lag time between our starter and main course. At 7:30pm we were just getting the dessert. Had to ask him to bring the bill at the same time. We just made it to our seats before the curtain. Server seemed very indifferent. Not sure if we would go back. Was it because my husband was in a wheelchair? Server also didn't seem to like it that we were paying in cash.
Jardiniere has become way overpriced. $35 risotto was size of a small soup bowl!
The restaurant is upscale in a desirable location, but the food was a huge disappointment. The dishes were bland and boring; little flavor and no zest at great expense. The service was very good. It has been a long time since I had such a poor experience. I definitely will not return.
We have been coming to this restaurant for years. Always great food and great service although pricey. Went the other night before the ballet. It took forever to get food and couldn’t get another glass of wine. Canceled our appetizers because we were running out of time before the performance. There are better and more reasonably priced options near the War Memorial.
Were a bit disappointed by the cold salty food and the 25 minute wait between appetizer and main course. Great bartender & waiter. Starters were good (spaghetti squash & caviar). The main course were room temperature and substantially over salted.
Have had better tasting food for the price. Wine selection great. Service was fantastic
Blah, overpriced and underwhelming. For the price I expected more.
This was our third time at Jardiniere in the last few months. The service provided by our waiter and by the sommelier was excellent, as usual. However, the portion sizes of both entrees, one a sea bass dish, the other a special rice dish, were skimpy given the price charged. To be specific, my partner and I agreed that the rice dish, priced at about $30, had excellent flavor and was well prepared. However, a size twice what my partner was given would have been appropriate, not the meager portion she received. We were both irritated by that. My sea bass dish was fair but not great. For an entree priced at $34, I received only two quite small pieces of fish, and the flavor was not impressive. Nor was the aesthetics of the dish impressive. Tolerable but not very good or great. I expected more from Jardiniere. My two most recent meals at Jardiniere were truly excellent. They merited five stars, but not this one. This meal made us wonder whether we will be returning to Jardinere again.
We love coming to Jardiniere prior to an evening at the theatre. The staff is very accommodating to our schedule and somehow we always dine with calm yet stay on our tight schedule. Food was delicious. The duck is always a winner.
The food was exceptional: flavorful, well-balanced and interesting. Portion size was modest, but both of us left feeling satisfied and not overly full. The atmosphere was wonderful: somewhat formal but very comfortable and welcoming. The service was terrific: attentive without being overbearing, which can be a difficult balance to achieve. All in all, a really wonderful experience.
Nice after theater dinner place. Great food, pleasing understated decor, attentive service.
Sorry but have to write this: a wine list that is completely overpriced. We are being served by the sommolier who opened our second bottle, let us taste the bottle in new glasses, great, and next he grabs the old glass and poors that into the new glass. This man does not deserve the title of sommolier. Never again!
Outstanding food and service. Awfully rxpensive.
Excellent experience all around. Food was outstanding, wine was delicious and service was awesome. Master somm and waitress were personable and knowledgeable.
Food was just average and prices were high for the quantity. Service was very slow.
It has been a couple of years since we have been to Jardiniere and wanted to try it again since it is such a lovely place
Dinner with girlfriends before the ballet. Enjoyed our experience very much. Food was excellent and the ambiance and proximity were terrific.
We arrived early and were accommodated nicely, since we had tickets to the ballet. The oysters, Champagne, foie gras with Sauternes, duck, Russian River Pinot and the chocolate dessert were all superb, and our waiter and the sommelier and others were helpful without imposing themselves. This is our fourth visit and we will doubtless return.
Evening at Jardinière before the Ballet. Always a pleasure
Food is outstanding with lots of flavor, texture, and depth. Good wine selection. Service is great while the noise level can be much depending on where seated. Conversation of other patrons seems to travel. In all, highly recommend fine dining, great date night, and good value compared to similar priced restaurants in the area.
Service was lovely. Our meal was divine.
