Jardiniere has been on my wish list for about 25 years. I finally made it there and the restaurant went beyond my expectations. The food was artfully prepared, especially the persimmon salad, the ambience was terrific, and the waitstaff very attentive. Couldn't ask for more.
Too overpriced for food that was just OK. Really regretted choosing that restaurant over others. I paid $89 for a starter, main, and desert and at that price I should have left filling it was worth it, but it absolutely was not!
The food was excellent and the service impeccable, if a bit slow. Friendly place, well worth the price.
Although we are visitors, this is our 4th or 5th visit to Jardiniere.
Our previous impressions were excellent. However, this time, two things
1-We were ushered to a table with no table-cloth.
Changed the table with our own efforts.
2-Though the service was good at the beginning
when there were few people. then as the restaurant
got crowded, we waited 10 minutes for the second drink.
10 minutes for the bill to be taken care of.
3-As for the kitchen,30 minutes waiting between the starter
and the main course.
Everything was terrific. Service was stupendous! It’s rare to find wait staff so professional and nice; responsive at just the right moments. Not too much or too little. Thank you for a lovely experience.
Great food & service was great as well. Came for date night with my boyfriend and we both enjoyed the cocktails and the food. We would definitely go back and try the tasting menu!
The entree portions were very small for the steak and chicken. We were hungry very soon after dinner.
Everything was good but I got the flank steak and absolutely could not chew it. Just swallowed it anyway.
Outstanding pre-theatre menu and value for an iconic San Francisco restaurant. With proximity to several performance venues, they have formalized pre-theatre dining and made it a very nice experience. The staff is attentive and engaging without being obtrusive, the sommelier was personable and genuinely part of making the meal an enjoyable experience and maybe introduce new wines, while readily understanding the amount of detail to provide for the particular diner.
I have rediscovered Jardiniere in the past few months. The food is consistently excellent, and the atmosphere is wonderful - quite, intimate, aesthetically gorgeous interior, lovely waitstaff who are attentive and friendly, comfortable. Their signature cocktails are creative but not in your face. I go there often these days for business dinners and my colleagues always appreciate that I suggested it.
The staff were not knowledgeable, smart and fun!
The sommelier was great and very cognizable about the entire upper level.
The food was fantastic!
Great location for a business dinner. Food was great, smaller serves but to be expected. Wine list exceptional. Service good.
The best food I’ve ever eaten and the most I’ve spent on a meal. Definitely reccomend the cheese flight and one of the “salads.” Impossible meatballs were not only the best meatballs I’ve ever had but also tasted just like beef.
Chef was very accommodating to a vegan guest and prepared a delicious meal. Also, a beautifully designed restaurant!
This used to be my favorite spot in San Francisco. Just returned, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. The food was good, but not great, and the portions are very small. For the price, I would expect much more.
Great location, great drinks, and friendly staff , though
food was fine but far from outstanding and definitely did not merit the prices; very small portions
Great place! Lovely romantic restaurant. Expensive food and very small portions.
It was so cold with the air on that we had to keep our coats on the whole time which is not great for a relaxed dinner!
The explanation was that it needed to be this cold to preserve the wine cellar!
In the same fashion as our previous dining experience at Jardiniere, there were waits -- to receive a menu, to receive our drinks, and we were aware of longer-than-usual gaps between courses. The white truffles were left off my pasta. The dish was replaced. Another wait. Our server was genuinely attentive when nearby and was well-informed about the cuisine, which is top-notch with an inspired menu that features unusual, delicious presentations. And so, despite the spotty service that appeared to be kitchen-related, we will return to Jardiniere. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives.
Jardiniere was FABULOUS!!!
It was so nice to be back, this fantastic place is going back in our rotation. It is easy to get lost in all of the new restaurants in SF and forget how absolutely AMAZING Jardiniere is and has always been. The food truly could not have been better, I savored every bite. Excellent job by Chef Traci and her crew, we will be back soon. Thank you for such a fantastic evening!
After two years away from Jardiniere, due to one night of very poor service, we are glad to have returned for very good main courses, an excellent dessert and very good wines suggested by a very good server.
The menu was a bit limited, but we enjoyed the ambience and the service, as well as most of the food. I would be more inclined to try another restaurant when visiting San Francisco next time rather than returning to this one.
Ill my go-to spot near Civic Center. Great for pre-concert dining, very short walk, and they always get you out on time. Great spot even if you Arts not going to a concert
The restaurant knows how to get it right. Not only is the food and service excellent, if you have a show you're going to, they will always get you out on time.
The Jardinere does not keep what it promises on the website. Ambience from the 90s. The service was good. The food was okay, the ingredients very good, but greasy. Optically very good, but the food was cold when it was served. The same is true for the restaurant, it was very cold air-conditioned. We cannot recommend it.
Outstanding meal and dining experience, in an equally alluring space. Great all around.
WONDERFUL AMBIANCE, EXCELLENT SERVICE AND DELICIOUS AND INNOVATIVE FOOD.
Amazing culinary experience. EXCELLENT service. Best I’ve had in years. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
The three-star rating sums it up: good. We were there for a pre-opera dinner, and the location and prix fixe menu worked for getting us to the performance well before the curtain rose (5:15 p.m. reservation). The service was prompt. Our meals felt mass produced (soup, chicken and short ribs) instead of individually attended to, perhaps resulting from preparations for a rush of pre-performance diners. The food just didn't have a "wow" factor for us. So the experience was fine overall, but we simply weren't impressed enough to contemplate a return visit.
Excellent Pre-Opera dinner... for the same price as the Opera House Buffet but so much better!!!
This is such a beautiful restaurant, with valet parking which is huge when one is rushing off to the opera, or symphony, both of which are just steps away. The food is consistently excellent, although I must say I am not fond of the prix fixe which is what Jardiniere is now doing if you arrive before 7 p.m., on the evening of a performance. This spot is an institution and with good reason.
Great service and I was very surprised that many items on the menu could be made vegan or already were!!
Everything was great across the board. The food was delicious and it was perfect before going to see Miss Saigon.
I had not been to the restaurant in quite some time but it turned out to have held up very well. The food was exceptional as was the service. They even seated us at the same table that my recently deceased husband and I had always requested in the past. I was quite touched by that gesture.
Great food, service and ambiance
Probably this restaurant has been "spoiled" with the theater goers' attention because of the location and because people come there before performances at the Opera or/and Symphony - thus the location is good. Yet the service cannot be compared with the similar places in New York or Europe - this one feels like a pretty arrogant provincial town restaurant with the waiters talking too much and too loud and with food being overpriced (while being just fine-nothing spectacular.) The girl at the reception downstairs does not acknowledge the new guests properly, she drags time to pay attention to them (except probably to young men in suits) and is not too friendly. Also - while reservation - there is an option to write a note and I did write that I am bringing a senior with me and asked for a quieter place away from the main passways to-from the kitchen, and this is exactly where we were seated. The waiters were running next to us all the time and even the floor was shaking where we were seated. Then why bother asking for comments?
They have a pre-theatre prix fixe dinner. Nice portions to not overstuff. We had foie gras ($18 upcharge)
that came with delicious crispy sauteed bread, along with fennel salad for starters, then chicken w/lovely veggies and chewy yummy cavatelli for the second course. All the food was delicious. The sommelier knew what he was doing (so did the waitstaff). Lovely table on the second floor (preferred to first). The service was great at the start, but flagged after 7:00, when the restaurant was open for post-pre-theatre prix-fix crowd. That crowd brought the noise level up considerably and took the resources from the staff. The wine brought the bill up well over $200. Both food and wine were so delicious it was worth it.
The best impossible burger hands down. They make this an ultimate high class experience.
I really enjoyed the 6-course chef's tasting menu that evening. They didn't have a fixed tasting menu written down. When I asked for the tasting menu, my waiter went talk to the chef to create a menu for me after asking about my allergy and preference on the regular menu. The tasting menu contained three of the four main dish types listed in the regular menu, and I was very satisfied with the experience of variety. The food was surprisingly refreshing. The price was reasonable for a stared restaurant's tasting menu.
The ambiance/decoration was nice, but relatively casual (considering its dress code). The service was decent. No complaint but not especially impressed.
Overall, it is a decent place for a "more casual" Michelin star experience. I would not recommend it for your most special occasions, but it is a perfect place for a nice Sunday dinner.
Jardiniere never disappoints. The food is unique, creative, and delicious with an obvious French flare. The celery soup was delicious. The potato herring salad was exceptional which was good for a share plate. And the Foie Gras Terrine was very nice also as a share plate. The rabbit was excellent and so was the black cod. It was a pre fixe menu at around 5:30 PM. I probably would have gone for the regular dinner menu, but they don't show that until 7:00 PM. Why not? But buy ordering a couple of extra dishes, we were pleasantly full and satisfied. Jardiniere is a great restaurant, beautiful inside, and fun.
