tired, mediocre food; perfunctory and supercilious service; extremely disappointing given the owner's reputation
Well I've dined here several times and had everything done properly. I took a guest to have them try your impossible burger. The waiter grabbed the wrong order as I also had the impossible burger but without cheese as I am vegan. My associate ate alone as my burger took another ten minutes. As you know this makes for a very uncomfortable dinner experience as we had entrees served apart and we ate our dinners not together but alone?? The staff didn't charge for my burger but regardless a bad experience all around. Mark Schultz
We had a nice dinner, but it was extremely off putting to arrive and be told that they were only offering a fixed price three course Mexican menu with drink pairings. I feel like I should have been informed of this when making the reservation. The food was good- not amazing. If I wanted Mexican, I would have gone to a different restaurant.
Classic restaurant that knocks it out of the park.
Perfect for date night!
Disappointed. Heirloom tomato salad with barely any tomatoes; pommes frites that were too salty; pork belly that was tough, dry, and flavorless. The cocktails were the only bright spot.
We had an outstanding dinner at Jardiniere. Superb! The dinner we had there lingers in my memory.
My go-to restaurant when I go to an Opera or Concert, and worth driving or Ubering to at others times as well
Wish the wines were priced better, I.e., lower. Didn’t find it a good value.
Fresh ingredients, outstanding service, lively but not too noisy. Great place for business or pleasure.
The food was outstanding. The service was wonderful.
Excellent restaurant! Un peu dispendieux, mais l’expérience vaut le détour. Service courtois et nourriture exceptionnelle. Miam!
Everything about our dinner at Jardiniere was impeccable once we moved to a different table and Michael became our server. He was very attentive and pleasant, and the meal was worth every accolade we could bestow. The caviar presentation is the best we've ever experienced - worth the price - followed by heirloom tomato soup - wonderfully flavorful - hamachi crudo, cucumber salad and a delicate and delicious salmon entree. A cheese course for dessert offered a unique and satisfying conclusion to a great meal. We will happily return to Jardiniere.
I had not been here for years, but decided to visit for a special celebration. The service was amazing. We had a show to go to, but our servers did an excellent job of pacing everything so that we did not feel rushed at all. The food was good, but I have had equally good food at other less expensive restaurants in SF. And the decor is looking a bit worn. I recommend this place, because this is still one of the top restaurants in our fair city, and should be experienced. The Chef has been a leader in the industry, and still serves some leading foods (we tried the non meat meatballs and they were quite good. Give it a try.....it is worth the experience.
Outstanding cuisine and service. Best duck confit ever, sublime foie gras terrine
Jardinere never disappoints! The ambiance is romantic and the staff are friendly. The food and drinks were outstanding. They have a full bar and extensive wine list.
We ALL thoroughly enjoyed the service, ambiance, food & wine!
Delightful, professional and very worthwhile dining spot!
A beautiful restaurant full of care and love and a true human experience. I have never left here NOT walking on cloud-nine.
Excellent service, top notch cuisine.
Seasonal salad have excellent quality of ingredients.
Salmon fish highest quality.
Pasta dishes were fresh and tasty.
I haven't been here in 10 years and is still just as amazing as I remember it!
The food was great and service was awesome. The interior design was beautiful.
Food was really good, we enjoyed every bit of what we ate. Food is nicely presented and well prepared. Portions are small, but that's expected in this type of restaurant with the quality of the food so we didn't mind. The down side of our evening for us was the length of time it took to be served. We had many different waiters at our table but still had to ask for water, second drinks and additional bread. I was expecting a better service for the number of waiters there and the price we paid.
Poor Dining Experience at Any Price
I dine out 4-5 days per week. I had never eaten at Jardiniere although I frequently met for drinks there before the symphony. I've always liked the atmosphere and heard that it had a good reputation for food, albeit high prices. Regardless of price, the food was extremely disappointing. We ate Halibut Crudo (2 orders), the Duck Breast and Peach upside down cake. Crudo was a 6/10. It appeared to have been prepared in advance and then refrigerated--fish was mushy with no texture, although flavor was good. The duck was a 4 or 5/10. The breast itself was not a quality piece of fowl, although it was cooked properly. It was gnarly and flavorless with a line of deep gristle in each piece of breast. The confit saved the dish from being a complete zero. The cake was advertised as a signature dessert but was nothing more than a lump of soggy unhappiness. It also seemed to have had a long prior life to being served...and better days. The service was quite attentive but also aloof and robotic. I guess it's a matter of preference but I like having fun when I go out and animated and engaging servers are part of the experience. Next time I have the urge to put a big dent in my wallet, I'll head over to Dankos.
This restaurant is very pricey. It was $300 with tip for three of us. Food was very good but not incredible. Handy location if going to the symphony.
Kelvin, our Sommelier was fantastic. Overall staff was great as well!
Jardiniere never disappoints! My wife and I were celebrating my birthday at Saturday evening's dinner, and we could not have been more pleased. Every single course was prepared perfectly; the service was courteous and attentive without being intrusive; and Mark, the sommelier, was amazing!
We look forward to celebrating our next special occasion at Jardiniere.
Absolutely amazing. The service was great but does not hover. The food was exceptional.
Had dinner before an event at the opera house with family. Great service, great food, they managed the time factor for us, so appreciated. I'll go back there every time until I've tried everything on the menu...
Had the pleasure of dining here with husband and it did not disappoint. The wine was delicious and I'm still dreaming about the steak. The food was almost too pretty to eat and the vegetables were amazing. Save room for dessert and try the rabbit appetizer. Bon appetite!
Attended phillip glass. You made it that much more special
Being Vegan they were able to offer nice choices and everything from the soup to dessert was prepared with taste. Very enjoyable place to dine. I am a regular supporter.
Michael was a terrific server and the food was delectable
Duck fat ice cream is worth it.
This is a very good option before a show at the Ballet/Opera/Symphony. We had a very nice evening. The food was very good but the menu doesn't have many options, so I hope they change it on a regular basis so we can come back again and again. Service was excellent with a very attentive waiter and friendly busboy. We will be back.
It was absolutely great, delicious food , perfect service, and beautiful design. I love it 😍
We last visited Jardiniere in 2011. We enjoyed a fabulous tasting menu that finished up around 11:30 pm. The food was delicious and inspired. Flash forward to 2018 and we returned to celebrate our anniversary on the first leg of our California vacation. The short rib was melt in your mouth tender as was the pork chop. It was a busy evening and we were offered a glass of bubbly due to a longer than normal wait. From the front door through dinner service to the sweet touch of a congratulatory note, our experience was equally outstanding this time around. Jardiniere is always a "must" when we're in San Francisco.
Nice space - but food was average. The duck, for which this place is supposedly known for, was dry and disappointing. Nothing special with this place anymore. Average food...
It has always been my favorite resturant The food is not as good as it use to be Thank you
It was a really pleasant restaurant, with a nice quiet noise level and friendly staff. They were still friendly even though we were not spending much. The prices were a bit on the expensive side, but we were there for the impossible burger which was reasonably priced.
We went during the summer off season on a Friday night. The food is spectacular! However it was hard to enjoy with so many people dressed casually— there were multiple people in flip flops! Really distracting. While it’s true that people usually only dress up here because they’re going to the symphony before or after, the least the restaurant can do is enforce a dress policy. I don’t wanna see bare toes while I’m eating... but the food was so good, it didn’t stop me.
