Have been going to Jar over the years. A consistently good restaurant. Great service with great food. Never disappointed. Highly recommend.

A quiet evening a few days post-Thanksgiving we almost had the restaurant to ourselves which resulted in excellent service and a lovely quiet ambiance. Loved the lighting and menu. Excellent salads, salmon and pot roast entrees, and sides. Bread was boring and could use an upgrade, and the "famous" chocolate pudding was ho-hum. Would go back for a nice family, special occasion dinner. Reminded me of the kind of place my family would go on birthdays and anniversaries. Overall, lovely to have a terrific dinner which was well-prepared and recognizable, and not spoiled by foodies taking photos!

This is some of the best food anywhere! The salads were meals to themselves and the entrees were perfectly cooked and seasoned. A classic menu from entrees to desert. We enjoyed the apple pie.

We always enjoy at least one meal at Jar, whenever we are in LA and this trip was no exception. Jar is a classic steak house in my opinion, with a great red wine list, classic appetizers, and a great selection of steaks for mains, including the porterhouse steak for two! If you are steak lovers the porterhouse is worth trying. All of their sides are great too. Our server tonight, Rachel , was fantastic and embodied everything we have come to expect from Jar, warm, friendly and super efficient! As always a great dinner Thanks you!

We had a very disappointing Thanksgiving dinner at Jar. Our reservation was at 6PM and it was well over twenty minutes before we got more than water service and over half an hour before the bread arrived, then it was another long wait for family-style platters of traditional Thanksgiving food. It was obvious that the restaurant had far overbooked beyond the capacity of its staff. The mashed potatoes and sweet potato dishes were tasty. Unfortunately, about half of the turkey was seriously undercooked. When our 10-year-old asked "why isn't the turkey cooked?" we decided to point it out to our server, who was apologetic but offered no accommodation. This was the most expensive disappointing meal I've had.

We went for thanksgiving dinner for two of us. We each started with soup (one oyster soup and I think the other was chick pea or something). The soups were awful. We were stuck in a cramped middle table behind a wall where the hostess checks you in for dinner. It was awkward seating and I had to ask to change tables. The family style turkey dinner was dry and lacked flavor. We were given a plain roll which I guarantee was pulled from a grocery store package of rolls. You could have at least heated the roll and offered more than one roll per person. I would never attend jar for thanksgiving dinner again. The service was the only positive thing about the experience.

Jar is quiet and more sophisticated than many of the restaurants I patronize. The Caesar was underwhelming: it wasn't crispy and there wasn't enough dressing on it. The pork chop was the best I have EVER eaten. My friend's pot roast had one carrot and a slice of onion, hardly a "real" pot roast with potatoes and carrots. We couldn't find anything on the dessert menu so we left. I am not sure I would return.

the restaurant is upscale and low key. Really excellent beef and corn. Food and wine served at reasonable price. We did not get 23 table( one featured in lala land). But I guess it's ok.

Great dining experience! Our server, Kevin, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in aiding us in selecting our meals and wine. My wife had the pot roast and I had the steak. We selected the brussel sprouts and mashed potato sides. We were in a “comfort food” mood and this restaurant filled the bill! We had the banana cream ie for dessert. FANTASTIC!

We will definitely be back!

Absolutely awesome. Always a great experience. One of the only staples in LA that isn't a total scene, but always brings great quality. Service was incredible, as always and the food is just damn good. I also just love the vibe, the lighting, and the fact that the chefs bring the food out to the table. So personal.

Place was a family favorite. Have not eaten in Jar for about 2 years. Service was OK. Appitizers - crab deviled eggs came directly out of the refrigerator, were cold and tasteless. Rib eye was served borderline cold. Décor - needs to be updated to 2017. Time can not stand still.

We had the steak which was excellent. Oysters and soft-shelled crab were good. Cocktails were OK, wine list not extraordinary but decent. Good vegetable sides. Very nice decor and low-key atmosphere. Not cheap but not too bad...

This was my second time at Jar in 8 years; the food didn't measure up compared to the very first time I ate there. Perhaps it had something to do with ordering different items on the menu. The red wine sauce for my lamb dish was overpowering, though the meat was perfect texture. The clams were also a bit heavy with the salt and had that old distinct sea taste to them. I don't know what they did to the public restrooms which had high level luxury and decor, as the private one I used this time around didn't measure up on the same level. I was also expecting the Tuesday Lobster fixed price menu as it was a promotional invitation emailed to me, but was not offered by our server. That was what we originally came for, but we were alright with the regular menu; if we had the Lobster Tuesday Special, I might of been much more satisfied with the food that evening.

Once again another brilliant meal at Jar!
It is pricey, but you get what you pay for. Our friend - who had never been before - said it was the best steak she's ever eaten in her life. Our meals were delicious, and the salads, the pot roast, all the sides, and the desserts where sublime. We had a lovely waitress, aided by a very attentive staff.
Five stars!

The Peach salad was delicious so many different textures and flavors yum. The pot roast is a must-have. Melt-in-your-mouth, you feel like you're back at home with your mom's cooking. And the flavors on the Japanese skirt steak will blow your mind! You have to get the applesauce and the French fries. Overall great place, quiet, spacious, good service and delicious food.

New American cuisine served in a modern splash of style - Not merely a seasonal menu of rotating delights, Jar exhibits almost a spiritual relationship to the time of year and the foods that exemplify them. In addition, the ingredients often source from other areas, and they have seasonal events based around these geogastric gems. If I sound obsessed, this has gone from my favorite place to come visit from out of town to my favorite special occasion place. The professional staff and awesome owner/chef just crank it out and deliver at every level.

When I tell you my wife and I drive to this restaurant in Los Angeles from our home in Riverside from time to time you will understand how devoted we are to its food, its staff and its ambiance. Service was impeccable and of course we took advantage of the "Lobster Tuesday" special three course dinner. You cannot find a better priced gourmet meal in Los Angeles. Both of the lobster courses were superb and complex serving up lobster in two very different styles. The main course of lobster, sweet corn and creamed sauce was creative and outstanding. The lobster was a bit overcooked but then again we were some of the last diners out the door and it was still every bit a winning dish. The wines paired to each of the first two courses were perfect and please consider taking advantage of the house cocktails as you settle into one of the most comfortable and beautifully lit restaurants spaces in Los Angeles. Our compliments, once again, to the chefs and their colleagues.

The menu may be limited and traditional but the preparation and presentation is exceptional. Portions are generous as well. A good place to take someone who appreciates fine dining but is not necessarily adventurous. In fact, calling it a "chop house" really underestimates it.
