Jar Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant has a nice clean. The flow of getting guest in and out worked well. The service was on the slow side today however from what I hear it is an isolated instance. The food was great. I had the filet with lobster bernaise and it melted in my mouth. Started off with a half dozen oyster which had a Ponzu sauce that had a bright crisp taste. For dessert I had the butterscotch pudding that was think rich and tasted smooth as velvet. Overall good experience and will come back again.
We have been customers since Jar opened and are always very happy with our meals. Suzanne does an amazing job and the food, service, and ambience are always top-notch. I can't recommend Jar highly enough as I've had special occasions and last-minute meals with friends and always leave happy. It's so nice to see an institution like this survive and thrive in today's culinary world.
This isn’t my first time at Jar. I usually come here every year for my NYE meal with family. Typically the service is quick and our waiters are very attentive. However, this time service was extremely slow and our waiter very dismissive when I had mentioned I had not received my appetizer. I had waited for approximately 45 minutes before receiving it and only after addressing it with management. Not only that, but no one had come around to refill our water glasses or bread and it was quite apparent that every table was being attended to while we were not as well as being the only patrons of color. Once the issue was addressed with management, service improved drastically, however, it would had been nice if we were at least comped for the salad that took almost an hour to arrive.
My fiancé and I celebrate almost every special occasion at Jar! It’s WONDERFUL and my favorite restaurant in LA. The service is sensational and the food is amazing - we love the skirt steak and purple yams. Kevin was our server on Christmas Eve and truly couldn’t have been better, thank you for making us feel so special and taken care of.
A quiet evening a few days post-Thanksgiving we almost had the restaurant to ourselves which resulted in excellent service and a lovely quiet ambiance. Loved the lighting and menu. Excellent salads, salmon and pot roast entrees, and sides. Bread was boring and could use an upgrade, and the "famous" chocolate pudding was ho-hum. Would go back for a nice family, special occasion dinner. Reminded me of the kind of place my family would go on birthdays and anniversaries. Overall, lovely to have a terrific dinner which was well-prepared and recognizable, and not spoiled by foodies taking photos!
We always enjoy at least one meal at Jar, whenever we are in LA and this trip was no exception. Jar is a classic steak house in my opinion, with a great red wine list, classic appetizers, and a great selection of steaks for mains, including the porterhouse steak for two! If you are steak lovers the porterhouse is worth trying. All of their sides are great too. Our server tonight, Rachel , was fantastic and embodied everything we have come to expect from Jar, warm, friendly and super efficient! As always a great dinner Thanks you!
We had a very disappointing Thanksgiving dinner at Jar. Our reservation was at 6PM and it was well over twenty minutes before we got more than water service and over half an hour before the bread arrived, then it was another long wait for family-style platters of traditional Thanksgiving food. It was obvious that the restaurant had far overbooked beyond the capacity of its staff. The mashed potatoes and sweet potato dishes were tasty. Unfortunately, about half of the turkey was seriously undercooked. When our 10-year-old asked "why isn't the turkey cooked?" we decided to point it out to our server, who was apologetic but offered no accommodation. This was the most expensive disappointing meal I've had.
We went for thanksgiving dinner for two of us. We each started with soup (one oyster soup and I think the other was chick pea or something). The soups were awful. We were stuck in a cramped middle table behind a wall where the hostess checks you in for dinner. It was awkward seating and I had to ask to change tables. The family style turkey dinner was dry and lacked flavor. We were given a plain roll which I guarantee was pulled from a grocery store package of rolls. You could have at least heated the roll and offered more than one roll per person. I would never attend jar for thanksgiving dinner again. The service was the only positive thing about the experience.
Jar is quiet and more sophisticated than many of the restaurants I patronize. The Caesar was underwhelming: it wasn't crispy and there wasn't enough dressing on it. The pork chop was the best I have EVER eaten. My friend's pot roast had one carrot and a slice of onion, hardly a "real" pot roast with potatoes and carrots. We couldn't find anything on the dessert menu so we left. I am not sure I would return.
Great dining experience! Our server, Kevin, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in aiding us in selecting our meals and wine. My wife had the pot roast and I had the steak. We selected the brussel sprouts and mashed potato sides. We were in a “comfort food” mood and this restaurant filled the bill! We had the banana cream ie for dessert. FANTASTIC!
We will definitely be back!
Absolutely awesome. Always a great experience. One of the only staples in LA that isn't a total scene, but always brings great quality. Service was incredible, as always and the food is just damn good. I also just love the vibe, the lighting, and the fact that the chefs bring the food out to the table. So personal.
Place was a family favorite. Have not eaten in Jar for about 2 years. Service was OK. Appitizers - crab deviled eggs came directly out of the refrigerator, were cold and tasteless. Rib eye was served borderline cold. Décor - needs to be updated to 2017. Time can not stand still.
