Jar's food is simple, clean, and wonderful. Our table had pot roast, lemon grass chicken and dover sole. We ordered sides of sauteed pea tendrils and duck friend rice. Absolutely no disappointment with any of the above..................delicious. We shared the banana cream pie and that was not great. Definitely would return on next trip to L.A.

We had heard of Jar’s Sunday Night Fried Chicken Dinner and thought it sounded wonderful. It was not.
We were seated promptly, and offered drinks from their bar. We ordered one drink and also promptly received two tastes of wines by the glass we requested. You must pre-order the dinners so the server was aware. She did not offer the standard menu for additional offerings until we asked. We proceeded to order the “popular” deviled eggs and an additional side of cream corn. The eggs came out quickly and were dry and bland. Five pieces come in an order. We each tried one and thought they were awful. The server inquired if we enjoyed them and we told her no. They sat on the table until the busses removed them at the end of the meal. Our entrees came 35 minutes after our single appetizer, and after three tables, who sat well after us, had received their dinners and were almost finished. The chicken, and mash potatoes were warm, the gravy very bland and cold, the biscuit room temperature and the only thing hot was the corn. We were brought a complementary dessert for our wait that had a film on it from sitting in the refrigerator, topped with whip cream that didn’t have film on it.
Remember we didn’t need to order. They knew our order as it was pre-ordered.
Very disappointed in that no one cared and that in this day restauranteurs think a free dessert make the bad taste go away. Keep the dessert. There are plenty of excellent dining experiences in Los Angeles.

Jar is one of my favorite restaurants although I don't get to come very often. When I do, I'm always really happy I came. The food is superb and the service was excellent. It was my friend's first time there and she loved it so much she didn't want to leave.

We enjoyed our birthday celebration at Jar. We tasted many of the dishes from the menu including soft shell crab entree, pot roast, beet & burrata salad, arugula and date salad, creamed spinach and white asparagus. We especially enjoyed the pot roast and beet salad which is lighter than most including long thin slices of cucumber. Everything is beautifully plated and the service was great.

NOTE: we did not find much on the menu for dessert as most were dairy based.

Food inconsistently good at Jar -- although not excellent. Atmosphere is nice. Chic and good lighting. People are lovely who work there.

Had a friend and business dinner at Jar this week. Everyone at the table ordered something different and everything was amazing. The wine recommendation from our server Jessica was great. She was really helpful in her recommendations and advice. An all around great experience.

I have been to Jar a few times and always wish I lived closer so I could just sit at eat at the bar more often. Great place.

The single most underrated restaurant in Los Angeles. If you don't dine here, you are missing a treasure.

We had a reservation for 5. They sat us in Siberia. It was freezing with the air blowing during the whole meal. They claimed they had given our table away even though we were on time. Food was unexceptional. Service was good however.

Before this evening we had not had a meal at Jar in probably 8 years. Nothing has changed, and the food is still decent (and exactly the same), but the dining world has moved on. I don't need to go back.

I was inspired to eat here by the movie La La Land which showcases this restaurant in one of the movie's more important scenes. The waitress explained to me - with patience and politeness - where the scene was shot and where Emma Stone sat to eat her meal. I must say I felt enchanted. I see why this restaurant was chosen to be in the movie. It's modern decor and ambience exude LA style. This is why we live in LA to eat at places like this. Notwithstanding the good feel vibe created by being part of a famous movie scene, the restaurant stood on its own with great service and great food. The patrons that had gathered the night I was there were good looking and in a good mood. You will be too. Dress well.

The coq au vin was a little "brothy" but still very good. The beet/burrata salad amazing! One thing I would suggest is asking the wait/bus staff not to wear strong cologne. Some of us are very sensitive to scents and would like to be able to taste the food.

Pot roast, char siu pork chop and sautéed halibut all delicious. Four of us shared 3 entrees, appetizer, salad and several sides. Every one was happy with food. Gave server 2 credit cards for equal split and he returned 2 slips, one with all but $20 charged in one card and the other with $20 charged. He fixed it when we pointed it out. Really loud, especially irritating when the party next to you is a member of the loud family. Same diner bumped/rubbed his butt on our table as he got in and out of his adjoining table.

At 7:45pm, there were menu items that were not available. Service was poor and restaurant was extremely loud. Servers and busboys were knocking into our chairs constantly without ever apologizing. We have not been back to Jar for awhile as we live here in LA and abroad, and will not return. We are telling our friends about our bad experience on Wednesday nite.

After seeing restaurant’s pot roast on Food Network’s episode of “Best Thing I Ever Ate” I took my wife and kids since we were in LA. Inside Jar is a intimate setting with dim lighting, and a friendly atmosphere. Not really meant for kids due to limited choices for them on menu but we made due. Pot roast was great as advertised but I wouldn’t say it was the best I ever had. However it was soft, tender & a must try if you ever visit. Please be advised that restaurant is pricey and noise level is high because of small space but was a nice dining experience.

The food at Jar is always great. We have our favorites, although they always have interesting specials. We went with our favorites, lamb shank, which is a regular special, for my husband and pork chop for me. He had the wedge salad and I had the butter lettuce salad - excellent. We also shared an order of creamed spinach which is more than enough for two. We went early and sat at the bar, as it was just the two of us. I tried the Spa Water cocktail which I really enjoyed. It was not too sweet and not too tart - just right. The restaurant was quiet early - tends to get noisier later on. This is just a great restaurant for comfort food with a gourmet touch. It is also a great place to bring friends. The service from the bartenders and kitchen staff was perfect.

The previous week we had shared an order of Mussels, and so enjoyed them that on this visit we decided to forego a meat order and each had mussels as our entree. The previous week the mussels were very large when we shared. When we each ordered our own, the mussels were tiny... We wondered if they were trying to discourage us from having mussels as our entree.

Always a great meal here. The acoustics are pushed when there’s one really loud lady 2 tables away. Her obnoxious voice and loudness just about ruined our meal. We decided to hurry and finish so we could leave and go to the train station for a nice quiet dessert!

Relatives were in town and I'd recently read about the pot roast in a novel I'd been reading. It was just as good as the characters described.

From the pork chop to the cod to the pot roast and chicken - everything we had was great except the green beans.

We brought a kid who loves meat and she was happy, but I wouldn't call it kid-friendly. Though it was kid friendly enough

Was seated just past 8PM for a 7:30 reservation. The room is exceptionally loud for what never struck me as a trendy restaurant for the hip crowd. I couldn’t hear the person next to me. But it’s a decent room. The waiters are good. And the food is decent and not terribly overpriced.

Great feel of the place and the food was delicious. Only one problem for me is the room is too dark and you literally cannot read the menu and see what’s in the food. I guess I’m not the only one have problem seeing because other patrons also using their flashlight from their phone to read the menu.

Jar is a favorite with our family. We always bring friends new to L A., to Jar, to start their visit off right. We know they will enjoy the entire experience: cocktails, wine choices, appetizers and entrees; the atmosphere/ambiance and the staff is welcoming and professional. We do not eat meat but never leave hungry. There are so many vegetable options to enjoy. We love everything about Jar and we never miss an opportunity to share Jar with friends.

It was Valentines day. Didn’t know they were removing their normal tables and chairs and replacing with small rental type ones with air inflated seat cushion. The ambiance is great any other day but would not recommend for v-day. Food was good and service for as busy as they were was acceptable. We have been there many times always great just the V-day was a mistake.

A little slow in seating, but very nice about it. Two of us had the pork chop and loved it. The special squid salad with the jalapeño dressing was excellent , and I don’t normally order spicy foods. We were under a speaker and had trouble hearing one another. This is our fourth or fifth time eating here and we would come back, but ask for a quieter location.

A long-standing go-to restaurant for us in Los Angeles. Reliable, high-end comfort food and good cocktails, and avoids some of the faddishness that often plagues more fashionable LA restaurants.
