Fabulous service, fabulous food, fabulous experience!!
I was inspired to eat here by the movie La La Land which showcases this restaurant in one of the movie's more important scenes. The waitress explained to me - with patience and politeness - where the scene was shot and where Emma Stone sat to eat her meal. I must say I felt enchanted. I see why this restaurant was chosen to be in the movie. It's modern decor and ambience exude LA style. This is why we live in LA to eat at places like this. Notwithstanding the good feel vibe created by being part of a famous movie scene, the restaurant stood on its own with great service and great food. The patrons that had gathered the night I was there were good looking and in a good mood. You will be too. Dress well.
Poor quality ribeye
Delicious food and dessert that keeps us coming back
Pot roast, char siu pork chop and sautéed halibut all delicious. Four of us shared 3 entrees, appetizer, salad and several sides. Every one was happy with food. Gave server 2 credit cards for equal split and he returned 2 slips, one with all but $20 charged in one card and the other with $20 charged. He fixed it when we pointed it out. Really loud, especially irritating when the party next to you is a member of the loud family. Same diner bumped/rubbed his butt on our table as he got in and out of his adjoining table.
The Food was AWESONE!!! We had a great time!!!
You should try this restaurant for any occassion!!!
At 7:45pm, there were menu items that were not available. Service was poor and restaurant was extremely loud. Servers and busboys were knocking into our chairs constantly without ever apologizing. We have not been back to Jar for awhile as we live here in LA and abroad, and will not return. We are telling our friends about our bad experience on Wednesday nite.
After seeing restaurant’s pot roast on Food Network’s episode of “Best Thing I Ever Ate” I took my wife and kids since we were in LA. Inside Jar is a intimate setting with dim lighting, and a friendly atmosphere. Not really meant for kids due to limited choices for them on menu but we made due. Pot roast was great as advertised but I wouldn’t say it was the best I ever had. However it was soft, tender & a must try if you ever visit. Please be advised that restaurant is pricey and noise level is high because of small space but was a nice dining experience.
The food at Jar is always great. We have our favorites, although they always have interesting specials. We went with our favorites, lamb shank, which is a regular special, for my husband and pork chop for me. He had the wedge salad and I had the butter lettuce salad - excellent. We also shared an order of creamed spinach which is more than enough for two. We went early and sat at the bar, as it was just the two of us. I tried the Spa Water cocktail which I really enjoyed. It was not too sweet and not too tart - just right. The restaurant was quiet early - tends to get noisier later on. This is just a great restaurant for comfort food with a gourmet touch. It is also a great place to bring friends. The service from the bartenders and kitchen staff was perfect.
The previous week we had shared an order of Mussels, and so enjoyed them that on this visit we decided to forego a meat order and each had mussels as our entree. The previous week the mussels were very large when we shared. When we each ordered our own, the mussels were tiny... We wondered if they were trying to discourage us from having mussels as our entree.
Always a great meal here. The acoustics are pushed when there’s one really loud lady 2 tables away. Her obnoxious voice and loudness just about ruined our meal. We decided to hurry and finish so we could leave and go to the train station for a nice quiet dessert!
Excellent (but slow) service, amazing food
Regular patrons to this vibrant and attentive restaurant.
Relatives were in town and I'd recently read about the pot roast in a novel I'd been reading. It was just as good as the characters described.
From the pork chop to the cod to the pot roast and chicken - everything we had was great except the green beans.
We brought a kid who loves meat and she was happy, but I wouldn't call it kid-friendly. Though it was kid friendly enough
Was seated just past 8PM for a 7:30 reservation. The room is exceptionally loud for what never struck me as a trendy restaurant for the hip crowd. I couldn’t hear the person next to me. But it’s a decent room. The waiters are good. And the food is decent and not terribly overpriced.
Great feel of the place and the food was delicious. Only one problem for me is the room is too dark and you literally cannot read the menu and see what’s in the food. I guess I’m not the only one have problem seeing because other patrons also using their flashlight from their phone to read the menu.
Jar is a favorite with our family. We always bring friends new to L A., to Jar, to start their visit off right. We know they will enjoy the entire experience: cocktails, wine choices, appetizers and entrees; the atmosphere/ambiance and the staff is welcoming and professional. We do not eat meat but never leave hungry. There are so many vegetable options to enjoy. We love everything about Jar and we never miss an opportunity to share Jar with friends.
A classy take on the laid back splendor of creative California cuisine.
They never mentioned price fix menu.
They crammed too many people in for Valentine’s Day and doubled the prices. Good was not as good as usual and the number of tables they added created a fire hazard. That was a mistake going there for Valentine’s Day.
I realize it was Valentine's Day but they should have called it the price gauging extravaganza. Otherwise a good place but wow did they hit you hard in their pricing for this special day. I'll go back but never again on February 14
Was for vday. Bad experience
A little slow in seating, but very nice about it. Two of us had the pork chop and loved it. The special squid salad with the jalapeño dressing was excellent , and I don’t normally order spicy foods. We were under a speaker and had trouble hearing one another. This is our fourth or fifth time eating here and we would come back, but ask for a quieter location.
I love this restaurant. I hadn't been here in a while, and I'd forgotten how terrific it is. Pot road is to die for, as they say. One of my favorite places.
A long-standing go-to restaurant for us in Los Angeles. Reliable, high-end comfort food and good cocktails, and avoids some of the faddishness that often plagues more fashionable LA restaurants.
Awesome food. Absolutely some of the best food in town. Great space. Tasteful not loud at alll. Highly recommend
I used to eat here all the time, in the last decade, but when they kept the same menu I wanted something different. 17 years later, it's still the same menu and everything is still good but it's feeling a little tired. Nice service and all the dishes were very good.
We come here a lot and will continue to do so. I’m happy to see place was busy, but staffing is waiters were thin on ground. We were there almost an hour before order was taken. Waiter worked hard but was stretched too thin. Where was help from front?
A must try for anyone who loves great food and aopreciates excellent service!
This is our favorite restaurant in LA. We eat here all the time and whenever friends are in from out of town, this is our spot. The food is always cooked to perfection, the produce is fresh, the seafood is amazing and of course for steak lovers....can't think of a better spot.
Great food and layout of the restaurant.
I love this chic neighborhood steakhouse. The low lighting and sophisticated decor gives a sumptuous feel to the dining experience. The staff is very attentive and accommodating. Best filet mignon and mashed potatoes! The skirt steak was under-seasoned, so I can't recommend. But the filet and the fresh lettuce wedge with bleu cheese dressing were so great, I would go back in a heartbeat.
Loved this restaurant & our server was fantastic! The cocktails were so good, soup delicious, & the steak was phenomenal! I wish I remembered our servers name! Kyle or kevin??? You made the night very special for two cousins reuniting!
In the most recent Michael Connelly book, Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller (the Lincoln Lawyer) meet at Jar for their famous pot roast. So I wanted to try it. It's melt-in-the-mouth good. It came with 2 sides for our group to share - fries and pea tendrils, which turned out to be the rest of the pea vine except the vine, the peapods, and the peas. The friend who loves spinach loved it because she thought it tasted like spinach. The friend who hates spinach loved it because it didn't taste anything like spinach. I liked it to, but I didn't think it tasted like spinach. Lovely place, an incredible number of servers, bus boys, etc constantly on the watch, delicious food beautifully prepared - I'll be very happy to eat there again!
Great service, delicious meal. Perfect date night for romantic foodies.
had an amazing time...their pot roast is always on point.... and our waitress Jessica was exceptional. Attentive, friendly and informative.
These guys always knock it out of the park.
Service and food were high quality and we enjoyed the food and the ambiance.
The best way to enjoy jar is to stick to their tried and true dishes. The steaks, the pot roast, the mashed potatoes, and the butterscotch pudding all have an esteemed reputation. As many other reviewers have mentioned the cocktails and the mussels should be avoided. The bar simply isn't up to par with what you get at similar establishments in LA and the mussels are very hit or miss, mainly miss. The bernaise sauce that accompanies them is amazing and does mask the earthy taste of the less than fresh, but better to go with the caesar salad or another app. The service when I was there on a non-holiday Tuesday night during dinner rush was phenomenal, my only complaint is the bussers were constantly hovering to clear our table. I could've used a little space there :). Overall, I'd say go to Jar for a great steak and enjoy it with a glass of wine.
