Have been here many times and they never fail to deliver on quality sushi with outstanding flavours
It was excellent. The food was superb. I really enjoyed it
Japonessa never disappoints. Went here for a birthday dinner with the family. We sat at the sushi bar and the food was delicious and fresh. One of our favorite sushi places in Seattle.
As always, a great selection of appetizers, sushi, rolls and drinks. Service was very attentive but not overbearing nor waiting for service. Just right. It's always a bit noisy and hard to have a conversation without hearing the conversation at the next table, but it makes it a cozy atmosphere.
Good food. Service was pretty good.
The service felt a bit rushed. But that can be good too since you’re not waiting forever for your food. But it did seem like they were rushing you to eat and get going. The food was good I had the yakisoba with mushrooms was pretty damn delicious, especially compared to other yakisoba I’ve had. It was pretty loud there given it was a Wednesday. But then again it’s on pike street so a lot of people are expected. All in all a good place to go for a date or with friends. I just wouldn’t go again since there’s not a lot of vegetarian options. The value is good, things aren’t crazy overpriced, and the people are nice even if they are in a hurry. Definitely worth a visit!
You can’t go wrong. They have the best sushi around and a great happy hour!
Our server was so friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. We love this place!
A friend wanted to return to Japonessa for her birthday and it was the first time I experienced this restaurant. The food we ordered was absolutely delicious, service was great and guaranteed, I will be a return customer. The mix of seasonings is a delight to ones palate and I can't wait to go back!
It was okay, but there were too many tourists.
I'm already impressed with this place. Even when they are extremely busy, their staff is always responsive and polite. The food is top notch too! I've never ordered anything I didn't like. For being in the heart of downtown Seattle, the prices are very reasonable as well!
We were not sure what to expect but really liked it. There were a lot of options and they were responsive to gluten-free requests.
I found this restaurant to be interesting. The reviews on some review platforms are polarizing. We found the food was not as good as others may have thought. It was ok- but I wouldn’t put it on the same level as other sushi houses.
Our server was kind yet the conversation he kept going was a little awkward. we decided to experiment with a roll (mexican ____) and didn’t really like it as much as we thought but would still come back. i think the quality of the salmon and tuna could have been better. usually a big indicator is if the fish breaks down easily in your mouth or breaks apart when i pick up with chopsticks. still love the ambiance and environment!
I was in town for my birthday and met up with friends for dinner.
Any time I am in Seattle I make sure I get to Japonessa!
They have quite a review. The selection of food was great. Happy menu was fair.
But what really impressed me is their service. Our server was genuinely attentive and nice. Sushi is sushi, add a little bit of flare and you’ll get good food. Service with good food is a great combo. We’ll definitely come back again.
Highly recommend making a reservation and arriving a bit early.
Parking can be a pain but there a parking garage.
The cost is a little on the pricey but the happy menu isn’t bad at all.
Busy place with good sushi and service. The bar gets backed up and drinks seem to take longer than expected.
We went on a Friday night and the restaurant was packed. Even though we had a reservation, we had to wait 25 minutes for a table. Once we got seated though the waiter was very good and the sushi rolls we ordered came it quickly. We got happy hour and for the prices you get a really good quality of food. Love the edamame and the Seattle crunch roll. The restaurant is pretty loud when it’s packed and the lighting in the back is a bit dim but other than that I really enjoyed the dinner.
Glad I made a reservation early on the day we ate lunch here. Others who arrived after us had to wait. The spicy sushi roll we shared was tasty with a nice crispness from the tempura shrimp. My chorizo ramen was disappointing, as there was little heat or flavor. My friend enjoyed her fish collar from the special menu. Overall I didn't expect anything great from this place and it met my expectations.
First time in Seattle. Everything was great. Food is outstanding!
Our server had the personality of a wet paper towel.
Great fresh sushi, as always. Great choices, good menu. Service average, takes a while to get noticed when you need something. But the food makes more then up for it. Favorite spot for sushi.
The waiter got the order wrong and when they delivered the wrong food they didn’t even apologize or offer to get what we did order. They brought the dishes out 30 minutes apart so that one of our party essentially sat for almost 30 minutes without food. By the end we weren’t really hungry anymore so asked to take the rest home. When I got home to put the food in the refrigerator - they had only out half the food in our bag so they threw away half of he food we paid for but didn’t eat. Won’t come here again as there a lot of choices for sushi and the service here was atrocious and food only average
Sushi was fresh and very tasty. Had the salmon and belly sampler and it was divine.
Yummy sushi! The food, the service was excellent
And the happy hour menu!
The sushi was very good, but a little overpriced. Overall the experience was pleasant and the staff very friendly.
My server, idk her name. some young asian chick, was just not very punctual. Just kind of slow and careless
As always, Japonessa did not disappoint. I brought my friends from out of town there and they were quite impressed. Food was fabulous and service was great. One of the servers heard me asking my friend what the saison tasted like and next thing I know, he had brought me my own little taste. On the ball. I love the creativity in the rolls. Item to note for new folks. Their rolls are HUGE, so be mindful in ordering to not over order. Bon Appetit!
Was here to celebrate my wife’s birthday on Monday the 19th. The sushi was very yummy and delicious. The Spanish roll that roll it melts in your mouth loved it. Had excellent service and very friendly environment. We will be bAck again
Fish quality was good. Otherwise overpriced and under portioned. Waitress was annoying and not helpful.
Great food & service
The food is always delicious and the service consistently good. I love sharing this place with my friends and colleagues.
Best sushi in all of Seattle
Amazing meal! Staff were gracious about accommodating our large group. The omakase was great! I enjoyed pieces that I normally do not like.
This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Seattle! I travel for work and its across the street from my office. I cant come to the city without stopping here. MUST HAVE!
Skin on Skin, Sweet Seduction, Spicy California, Spicy Tempura, Salmon Skin, and Super Bad Boy rolls all very, very good and the El Diablo just tops it all off!
Great good, relaxed atmosphere. Would have been nice to have some info on portion sizes as they are large!
Omg! One of the best meals I ever had!! Everything was amazing, it was our first time trying wild red king salmon sushi and I can't believe how much I've been missing out.. We also had the beef lettuce wrap, two sushi rolls, miso soup and two desserts, all were excellent. Can't wait to go back!
A fun, lively place for Japanese-ish bites; food and drinks are uniformly high quality. Not a place where you will find anything authentically Japanese, but a great option for an American version. Main complaints are that it's excessively busy (predictably) for early dinner, and it's pricier than warranted. But, conveniently located good food is like that I guess.
The best lunch deal in downtown Tacoma... Happy hour until 2:30 and full-size portions of those items (including the delicious Calamari Japonessa salad), the ambiance of the place and taste of the food leaves it with no competition in the downtown core.
