Best sushi in all of Seattle
Amazing meal! Staff were gracious about accommodating our large group. The omakase was great! I enjoyed pieces that I normally do not like.
Skin on Skin, Sweet Seduction, Spicy California, Spicy Tempura, Salmon Skin, and Super Bad Boy rolls all very, very good and the El Diablo just tops it all off!
Great good, relaxed atmosphere. Would have been nice to have some info on portion sizes as they are large!
Omg! One of the best meals I ever had!! Everything was amazing, it was our first time trying wild red king salmon sushi and I can't believe how much I've been missing out.. We also had the beef lettuce wrap, two sushi rolls, miso soup and two desserts, all were excellent. Can't wait to go back!
A fun, lively place for Japanese-ish bites; food and drinks are uniformly high quality. Not a place where you will find anything authentically Japanese, but a great option for an American version. Main complaints are that it's excessively busy (predictably) for early dinner, and it's pricier than warranted. But, conveniently located good food is like that I guess.
The best lunch deal in downtown Tacoma... Happy hour until 2:30 and full-size portions of those items (including the delicious Calamari Japonessa salad), the ambiance of the place and taste of the food leaves it with no competition in the downtown core.
When making a reservation on Open Table the questions came up - what type of occasion?
I made a point of it being a special birthday and they asked what did I want?
I requested singing Happy Birthday! Instead the very kind and professional waiter came with an amazing piece of Green Tea cake with a candle on top! Amazing, wonderful and delightful meal! Thank you all!
I LOVE Japonessa. Their rolls rock and normally are huge (especially in Bellevue Location). My Seattle Crunch was a bit smaller than normal, but good nonetheless. I simply don’t do Sushi anywhere else.
Our waiter Ross was very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Our appetizer the pulpo carpaccio was excellent. We chose the Chef Omakase sushi, every cut of fish or mollusk was superb.
We are looking forward to our next visit.
Everything was delicious! Highly recommend for dates or special occasions.
Fantastic fish in every way imaginable. The otoro was melt in your mouth delicious. The only dish that missed the mark was the beef lettuce wraps, but let's be real... you need to go to Japonessa for the fish. The service was impeccable, helpful and friendly.
Japonessa is a wonderful restaurant with a happy hour that extends from opening until 6:30 every day. The Calamari Japonessa is the B-E-S-T. I suggest it to anyone who likes fried calamari and a light salad... for the Happy Hour price of $6 you cannot beat this!
Great food with large portions. Very creative rolls. This is our go-to spot for dining before Benaroya Hall events. You can be in and out in an hour.
Great for date night. Reservations highly recommended.
This is very pedestrian-like quality sushi.
Overall we loved the food and will be back! It was a little noisy, our waiter was extremely busy, and it was slightly crowded. However, we were 20 minutes early for our reservation and were able to be seated within 5 minutes of arriving. We missed the awesome Happy Hour and instead ordered from the recommendations of our waiter. We were not disappointed. Everything had great flavors. This isn't your typical Sushi Restaurant, it has a Spanish fusion to it. Highly recommend you at least try it once!
Great happy hour!
A Seattle gem! Service, happy hour menu and food always excellent. Reservation recommended.
Really enjoyed the meal. We mainly had food off the Happy Hour menu. Was quiet enough to have conversation among the four of us. Would go again!
The usual for this place... Perfect
Our time there was rushed, our server had attitude from the very start and the meal was average and my roll in particular was really bad. I will not be returning.
The fruit flies are getting out of control in the dinning area. One landed in my dipping sauce and the wait staff didn't seem to care. I love their sushi, but may have to consider doing take out instead. Hope they take care of this issue.
Interesting food options along with sushi rolls. We ordered a variety of dishes/sushi rolls, and everything was delicious. Our waiter was very helpful as I have an allergy to gluten. Most dishes could be altered to accommodate. I look forward to going back again.
This place has some of the best sushi I have had. Really unique with a Mexican twist on the sushi, as much of it has cilantro or pico digallo on it. Celebrated my boyfriends birthday and they brought out a birthday desert and candle for him. The tables are close together where I sat and the restaurant is pretty loud (very busy and popular) so if you are looking for somewhere private, this may not be your place. I will 100% be going back. Service was great and fast and the sushi was amazing
Great Food | good variety, good quality, lots of varying flavors
Good Price | given the quality of food the price is extremely competitive (i.e. 2 adults can leave full for under $100, and that includes a cocktail each)
Great Service | our server was attentive, but not overly so
A little cramped | the tables are pretty close together and the noise level is fairly high, so as long as you're ok overhearing someone else's conversation (and visa-versa) it's not a huge problem.
Great find! Loved the fact that we hit Happy Hour & were able to take advantage of the great specials. Food was creative & delicious & drinks were tasty too. Will definitely be back!
Love this place, food & service is always great! Lychee martini is a must!
Sushi was warm. Beer was lousy. Cocktail tasted like cough syrup. Service was not even mediocre.
Consistently a great place to go!! I love their rolls, always good!!
Delicious as usual
Enjoyed the food here. We arrived just before Happy Hour ended and enjoyed some of the dishes from that menu. One thing we ordered from the regular menu was the Lobster soup - it was really delicious and had large pieces of lobster.
The reason we chose this restaurant was because of the reviews. No exactly thrilled-and wouldn’t go back. Service was very good. Miso soup was good. Crammed in like sardines and very loud. Have had better experiences and better food. Our expectations were high and we were very excited!
Outstanding service - personal and attentive but not overbearing.
We celebrated my niece’s birthday and our server brought her a piece of cake and a candle without us even saying anything. It was classy and thoughtful.
Food was amazing!
When I am in the area (live too far away for regular dining) I go there for lunch and weekend get togethers for dinner. I go there about 4 times per year. Great food, good sake selection. Only negative is very noisy, had to yell to get my point across to my friend sitting across the small table.
Sushi was good but over-sauced. So many aolis that over-powered the fresh raw fish. Still quite good.
One of the best sushi dinners I’ve ever had!
My adult boys and I loved it! The sushi was fresh and fun, very tasty. The happy hour appetizers, rolls and drinks were great! Service could be slow but it was busy.
Food is not that great.
Had a great time and great food!
