We ordered a few different appetizers for our table of 6 people. The chicken karaage was some of the best I've had. The gyoza was excellent. We tried the Washugyu kalbi cut and thin cut ribeye. Both delicious and so tender. Our server was outstanding! The only downside was the restaurant could have better air conditioning. It gets quite warm when the table grills are turned on. Even if you aren't using it, the heat from nearby tables makes the space warm.

This establishment definitely prides itself on quality cuts and good service. Compared to other eateries of the same genre, their Chu-Hai's are very flavorful and don't have a watery separation between the top half and bottom half. Our group of 3 tried 5 different flavors (Yuzu, Green River, White Peach, Lychee, and Strawberry) and were happy with all. For appetizers we opted for the Wagyu Fat Fried Rice and Garlic Fries (They did not have the Wagyu Truffle French Fries that night). Noth rhe French Fries and the Fried Rice servings was definitely ment for 2 big eaters or 3-4 normal eaters- we barely finished both with our meat and Sunny Lettuce orders below. Now the meats and the grill- I was very impressed by their Wagyusu and Wagyu cuts. We opted for the Wagyu Short Ribs, Wagyushu Thin Cut Steak, Beef Tongue, and Thick Cut Kurobuta Pork Belly. All of the meats were beautifully cut and did not disappoint. Also, their grills were impressive in not getting too smokey nor do they need replacing with all the grilling we did. They had 3 dipping sauces that brought out the flavors well. There was a ponzu, a sweet garlic sauce, and a salt and sesame oil sauce- everyone has different preferences but all 3 of us agreed they were good. As we were contemplating a final plate of meat or a dessert nearby, the waited let us know they have monthly desserts not on the menu. This month, they have a Smore Cheesecake, Yuzu Jelly with Lilikoi Sorbet, Coffee Jelly with (choice of Dave's Ice Cream top), and a special Cookies and Cream Ice Cream. We opted for all 4; Kona Coffee on the Coffee Jelly, the Yuzu Jelly with Lilikoi, and the Smore Cheesecake with the Cookies and Cream Ice cream. We could honestly come here for the drinks and dessert after eating somewhere else but we'd be too tempted to also get meat. All in all, amazing experience and service worth the splurge.

The world food duo stopped in at Japanese B.B.Q. Yoshi on Young St. There is limited parking but we were the first to arrive so I got the stall closest to the building. We ordered a 2019 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon ($105), a steal as it costs $85 from the winery. I thought about the Wagyu Set Menu ($300) but our server said it’s a lot of food and has shellfish so he recommended the Build Your Own Set option. We opted for Yoshi Salad, bowls of Wagyu Fat Fried Rice and the Steak Set, a combination of Wagyu ribeye, Washugyu ribeye and U.S. Skirt Steak. We added an order of tongue. Alas, no special tongue. The wine was stellar as Chateau Montelena wines consistently are; full of fruit, complex flavors without much tannin. The salad was fine, I’d expected something more from the Yuzu-based dressing. The meat was nicely arranged on a platter and the bowls of fried rice came at the same time. I didn’t partake of the fried rice as I’m on a no carb diet. I handled the cooking chores … the pieces of meat were thinly cut so it didn’t take very long as we prefer our meat medium rare. There were three sauces, one was sesame oil based (we didn’t like it); the other two (I couldn’t remember what they were but both) were delicious. I cooked the meats from least to most expensive. The U.S. skirt steak was tender and flavorful … that was the surprise of the evening for me. The Washugyu ribeye was excellent and the Wagyu ribeye; what can we say … It was “to die for”. I prepare A5 at home using a sous vide then a torch; the meat from BBQ Yoshi was fabulous. The sole disappointment was the tongue; it was not very flavorful and it was chewy. We ended our meal by splitting the dessert, a coffee jelly (for me) and green tea ice cream (for my tablemate). Final thoughts? I think Japanese B.B.Q. Yoshi competes well with H* N* D* in Kaka’ako. They offer similar menus at about the same price point. We love both places … recommended, 4.75 stars!

The place was fire. Looking at the marble almost made me cry. It was hella beautiful. The brothas that helped me out where good folks, they hustle. Even put your pitcher of beer in a bucket of ice. When you're done with your drink they pour you another right away. This was a bucket list item and the experience was fantastic!

Ate solo after walking over from Ala Moana. Drank a pitcher of ice cold Sapporo. Server dudes Sean and Ching were top notch!! Wagyushu sampler was just right portion for me and also tried the beef intestines (Hormon). Those I grilled till nice and crunchy and dipped in Korean kochijan miso paste………perfect for da beer to chase!! Overall, this joint is a great get together for friends and family, locals and tourists alike!!!!

The food was outstanding. Ask your server for recommendations on cooking if you're a first timer to maximize your experience. Strongly recommend the Wagyu Set with the beef tongue and scallop. The timing of the service was outstanding (didn't feel rushed and didn't wait long for anything) and the servers worked as as team to meet all our needs. My personal favorite was the Kal bi and my wife loved the ribeye. The tea to finish everything off was a really great touch as well. The only advice I would give to them is to change out the plates periodically to avoid mixing the flavors of the various courses.

We got the Wasugyu flight for 2. My husband said it was the best meal he ever had and nothing else would compare. He had me cancel all other reservations I had made. We really liked the two gentlemen who served us. If ever in Hawaii again, we’ll be back.

Excellent place for a wonderful dinner. The wagyu meal set was very expensive, but included a large variety of excellent foods to sample. The staff was outstanding, helpful and attentive without being overbearing. They helped describe to us what to do with the cooking table when we weren't sure.
