I really don't enjoy giving a restaurant a bad review if they don't deserve it, but I'm going to have to give this a "fair" review. The service was not up to par...we were left waiting and wondering what was going on after we'd been served coffee and cocktails. My husband finally had to wave someone down to ensure our order was put in. Then the food came out...we were all shocked that there was barely any food on the plate! The hash brown sliver given to us was two bites worth of potatoes and the benedicts were exceedingly small! It was shocking. You could see more plate than food (kinda' like Trump's inaugural crowd size...LOL). The good news is that the hash brown bites were crispy and the benedicts were tasty.

Would I go there again? Maybe, for the quality of the food and the great view of the river from every table, but ONLY if they do something about their serving sizes to compete with other restaurants in the area.

Birthday dinner, nice server, steak was not cooked to my specifications and server had them remake my entire meal while my husband ate his. He had the skirt steak and it was pretty tough. Great view! Sat on the deck in the sunshine.

Not sure what the bad reviews are about. The views are indeed amazing. But the food is too. The spinach artichoke dip was divine, hard to say what was best, the dip or the homemade tortilla chips, and the crab stuffed sole entree was perfection. Perfectly prepared and very tasty. Even the flourless chocolate cake was done right. This was a wonderful dinner where we didn't expect it, to be honest. This place is worth a visit.

Had reservations, didn't need them on a Wednesday night. Say on the patio overlooking the Columbia River. Waitresses were prompt and food was good, albeit a little on the process side. Overall a good experience.

We had a nice casual dinner here. The view is quite something. The food was nothing to write home about but nothing was terrible. Our server was friendly and helpful. A good spot for those who want a view but don't want to spend a lot of money.

We chose RedLion ja beach for the view. Which was very good and also the time..9:45 on a Tuesday which matches our work schedules. The nice hostess seated us...did not check for res at least at that moment. Then informed us that their menu drops even tho there is no mention that I could find that most of the kitchen shuts down in the 8's ...there fore having a 10pm seating option seems disengenous...at least have a warning about limiting the menu would be good.
So had our ritual libation, and went to Portland City Grill and dropped a couple Benjamins on their steak options.
BTW, your mandatory rating stars make this a bit non fact. We did not dine there due to their schdedule. You have not option for DNP as in baseball etc
SO I really do not feel good about giving them low ratings or high ratings...do you understand the issue?

Took the family here for Easter brunch buffet. The food was ok by buffet standards. Was bummed about the Prime rib being super overcooked. The dining room we were in was very outdated, the chandeliers and decor appeared to be from the 70's. But we did have a great view of the water.

The food here is surprisingly good, but this time nothing else worked. We had to ask four times for a condiment. Waiters stood by talking, but avoided eye contact. My wife had to wait twenty minutes for a knife to cut her chicken. We ordered two entries but we're told, this time, that bread or rolls are not included. Drinkers spilled over from the bar. And we were not checked in via Open Table until almost two hours after we arrived.

What a great view of the Columbia while having lunch in a nice restaurant. We had the turkey pesto panini and the roasted turkey blt and both were delicious. We were served by Rafael and he was prompt and also allowed us relaxing time to enjoy our visit. It is just a short drive from Portland to enjoy the view.

Gorgeous view of the Columbia River, this restaurant located in the Red Lion Hotel didn't disappoint. Best steak I've had in a very long time. Best service I've ever experienced. Some 80's decor with chandeliers, but that's literally the only bad thing about it. Would recommend to everyone. Brought my 9y/o and the kid menu was suffice as well.

We went for Christmas Day brunch and had a wonderful time. They accommodated us sitting 15 minutes late as our party decided to leave their home at the time of our reservations. :/ We were sat in what I assume was an overflow room because the music was playing in the other room but it was nice to have the quieter room. Stunning view of the river!!! Our server was fantastic! Even though it was a buffet she brought us drinks, took plates, and was incredibly pleasant.
The food was tasty and everyone ate a lot! Even the vegetarian in the group was pleased. What I saw available: prime rib, ham, omelet station, shrimp scampi station, eggs, large sausages, bacon, roasted potatoes, roasted veggies, fresh fruit, mashed potatoes, gravy, turkey (I think), savory bread pudding, baked cod, shrimp and cocktail sauce, deviled eggs, assorted cheeses and crackers, fresh veggies with dip, muffins, yogurt parfaits, mini cheesecakes, apple crisp, chocolate cake, poppy seed cake, red velvet cake and I'm sure I am forgetting a bunch. One complimentary beverage was included and we had bloody Mary's as well. We will definitely be back!

Nice restaurant in Red Lion with great river view. Here for lunch this day, nice lunch choices, soup, salads, sandwichs and entrees for those wanter larger portions. Started with the tomato soup, just a hint of spice to add to the great taste, then had the Italian Copa panini, well prepared and tasty. Serveer described menu selections well, available when needed, else let us enjoy our meal. First time eating here, definitely will try again next time in the area. Convenient to I-5 for those traveling north to Washington state.

hotel restaurants and restaurants with great views don't have to be great to survive. That said, the food was very good. The service people were friendly but definitely lacked polish. All 8 of us were more than satisfied with our meal and dining experience.

First time there and while it was very spendy 49.00 after a 15.00 gift certificate, it was well worth the cost. Our server was a nice chap (who I wish I remembered his name as he was excellent) who came out and his recommendations and knowledge of the menu was spot on.
He recommended the salmon for my wife and his choice of an Italian white wine was perfect for her. I choose the Mushroom and Onion Burger which was excellent. We both had house salads and their dressing was a sherry vinaigrette that had the right amount of flavor to it.

We had reservations for 7:00 pm Christmas Day, expecting the lovely buffet that was advertised at an affordable price. Only the regular menu was offered, but upon being seated, we learned that most of the listed items were not available. In fact, darn little was available, except trout, which was not even listed on the menu! The trout was ok, but not what we wanted. The restaurant did a poor planning job.
The meal was very expensive, and frankly not worth the price.
We will not return.

It was Christmas night and my sister and family friend decided to find a place to eat Christmas dinner since we didn't have time to cook this year.

We loved the menu and the food was great. Our seating wasn't as good as we thought in terms of ambience. We asked the person why we were being seated in another location other than what looked like the main seating area. She gave us a disappointing look at our comment.

But on a much positive note, the service waiter was exceptional and as mentioned below... the food was outstanding!

We were there with five adults and one child to avoid the hassle of family dinner preparations. The music was neither fish nor fowl; the food---well, the roast was undone and impossible to cut; everyone settled for crabs legs it seemed. The pumpkin pie was gone by the time we got to dessert (we were the late seating, but felt rushed; requests for crab cutters were met with, "Well, you'll have to share", which was okay, but seemed resentful.
The implication was that coffee was free, but when I added a coffee for my husband at the end, the waitress said she hadn't gotten it on the receipt before billing me, so I guess we were charged for our coffees.
The view of the Columbia was fantastic!.

Dining at the Red Lion Jantzen Beach for Christmas was truly special. Personable and efficient staff, delicious food with a wide variety of dishes, and wlcoming atmosphere made for a delightful dining experience. Then add the view and you have an event that was certainly worthly of any holiday. We had 10 am reservations, were seated promptly at 10, service was prompt, the buffet was plentiful, ready and very attractively presented. I would not hesitate to come back for the next holiday.

Had a great time with the old Shenanigans. The view of the Interstate bridge was great and the service and staff were friendly and prompt. It made Valentine's Day pressure easy with Open Table booking. While traffic was unfortunate, we arrived plenty early and was seated right away. The dining room was nearly empty when we arrived at 8:30 PM. There was no one to greet us and we had to wait several minutes before we were noticed and seated. There was a lot of noise from the bar, where people were dancing. We were seated at a table near a window with a river view, which was nice. There was a vent blowing cold air on us and I was cold. There was also quiet music broadcast for the diners, which competed with the rock n' roll coming from the bar. We took a quick look at the menu and I wasn't impressed. After adding up the negatives...too noisy, too cold, and a blah menu, we apologized to the waitress and left.
