Jantzen Beach Bar and Grill
Our Server was professional, and welcoming, attentative but not overwhelming. My burger had nothing on it. No lettuce, tomato, etc --It was cooked the way I ordered--thank you. One of our party had a hair
in her salad, but the wait person removed her charge. The hair was under her salad, So she haad eaten 90% of it before it was discovered. But all in all, we would be back--it was a good experience. Would like to see the Sunday Buffet's returned.
Nice view, good food and good service from waitstaff. I’d go again and take friends anytime.
Hotel was under construction and the menu posted on OpenTable was not the same that was offered at the table. We were very disappointed with the menu selection. The food and service were good but the quality of the food was mediocre compared to the price.
From the dining room there is a beautiful view of the Columbia River. The fare is pretty standard for a grill and bar. The fried fish is good as are the fries. A good place for a quick meal with a great view.
Food was good. We had the crab cakes which had more meat than breading, the shrimp penne, and the seafood stew. Shrimp still had the tails on. The service was a little slow but it was a beautiful Friday night so it was understandable.
Sever was great. Everything else was good enough.
It was a beautiful day. Sitting at the table by the window with the river view. The server was very friendly. We enjoyed our Sunday brunch very much. Yes, we will be back!
Their Happy Hour has discontinued food, so their once good bar menu is nowhere to be found. Came especially for their fish sandwich... which was terrific in the past.
Server was pleasant and accommodating.
Love the food and the view! We go here at least once a month.
I honestly cannot give a review bc this site is not even connected to jantzen beach bar and grill. They had no reservations. Also, they close at 10pm weekdays and would never have taken a reservation at 945pm. Fix your site opentable
They handled my dietary restrictions, even on Christmas day for dinner!
Nice setting on the Columbia River. Had a lovely dinner watching the Christmas ships sail by the restaurant.
Was able to watch the holiday ships and listen to great music being played
We requested a window table but did not get one. The wine was skimpy for the price and food was very expensive. Over all was a good night.
We booked a reservation in advance to watch the Christmas Ships and have dinner. Our family was looking forward to a great experience and I requested a table by the window so our children could watch the ships. We arrived early and the restaurant had just a couple tables occupied. I am not unrealistic with expectations and know that tables may not be guaranteed but it was added to my booking w/ Open Table and rec'd a call to confirm my reservation the day before which I again verified that we had requested a window table, she said 'it shouldn't be a problem.'
We were seated about as far away from the window as you could get, up against the interior wall. OK, maybe they had reservations placed before ours? But, it was a bit unorganized as the hostess really didn't show confidence in knowing the seating arrangement/floor plan. Well we sat down for a great dinner anyway, or so we thought.
We had visited the website the day of the dinner to take a look at the menu and think about our selections. The menu ended up being a reduced option for the Christmas Ship evening, would have been nice if that was on the website or communicated in some way. It also was quite spendy as the least expensive option was $28 a plate.
It just kept getting worse. One of our children didn't get served a meal for nearly 10 minutes while the entire table sat waiting with their food cooling off, the waitress finally came over to see why we were waiting, when it came it was only part of the meal and we had to ask again for the side.
The food was nothing spectacular but it was good.
When I left the table during our meal I walked by the hostess table and I heard a few of the staff arguing about where people were placed/sitting. Sounded like untrained staff, an oversight on a premium night? Our waitress was obviously new as well as she didn't know the menu well and we could hardly hear her speak.
Ended up being a 'meh' experience. Too bad because we wanted it to be great.
When making this reservation I was not informed that there was a special menu for the Christmas Ship Parade. The items on the menu we're weird and very overpriced. After doing some complaining the waitress then said there was a guacamole bacon cheeseburger on special for $16. This item was not on the menu. We ended up getting the burgers and they were delicious. The kids menu was reasonably priced for a nice size portion. The View for the Christmas Ship Parade was beautiful. The floor to ceiling windows were fabulous. I was just disappointed that I wasn't aware of the special menu ahead of time to prepare for it financially. I am not used to paying $40 for a meal.
Price fix menu for the Christmas Boat Parade - at least 5 choices including steak, seafood & pork. All of us chose a different item and were happy with our choice. Delicious food, good service and a water view!
We have gone there for many years for our Annual Christmas ships on the Columbia river dinner. This year there was no piano player or appropriate music, the menu was very limited, the portions were noticeably smaller and our server was very inattentive and unfriendly. We constantly had to flag the server down and ask for more drinks, etc. We will be looking for a new place to go next year unfortunately. The whole atmosphere was just a very cheapen feeling as opposed to previous years which were not.
Thanksgiving dinner worked well for our first visit. Had table for as long as we wanted. Appetizer buffet with fab arugula (no romaine!) salad and delish pumpkin soup and roasted brussel sprouts along with mundane cold cut and cheese was great as the latter were not needed by me. Son was pleased with prime rib and fresh asparagus and my classic turkey plate was very good. When our plates came too early while we were at appetizer bar, they were replaced with initiative and apologies by staff as soon as we sat down. Dessert bar was just right and the killer dark chocolate dessert was SO good. Also loved the Burnside bourbon cocktail! Seated by window as asked when I reserved. We will be back.
I was so disappointed with the food offering for Thanksgiving. This was advertised to be a buffet with a salad bar and dessert bar. The salad bar consisted of 1 salad choice, 2 types of cubed cheese, and cold cuts. The dessert bar had a better offering. My party had 2 children under the age of 4 and they had NO offerings for children. I asked them if they could make Mac and cheese for the kids and our server came back and said they were not set up for that but they could do buttered noodles with parmesan cheese. What came out was cold noodles with Kraft parmesan cheese sprinkled on it and pepper. Neither boy wanted this. I will never go back to the Red Lion for a meal!! I remember when it was standing room only and they had to open the ballroom for extra seating!! I should have left when I saw what we were in for and that there was only a dozen other people there!!
Enjoyed a very nice thanksgiving brunch here. We opted for the prime rib, very generous portions. Buffet style for first course and dessert. Very nice selection. Pumpkin soup was surprisingly delicious. Seated right next to the windows with a view of the columbia river. Wait staff were very attentive. Will choose to eat here again.
Paint night event in the same room which was not pleasant
We were seated promptly at a nice table on the higher tier. Food was fine. Crab cake starter was adequate. We had a tasty gnocchi which oddly came with bread. This rich starchy dish would have benefitted from a green vegetable side. The halibut fish and chips was nicely prepared and presented. The hitch was in ordering wine. Repeated the order twice to the hostess who took our order and then again to the server who checked in. It arrived more than midway through the main course.
The meals were great...the chef is clearly qualified. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Gris to start. It was not chilled whatsoever, in fact it was warm ewwwww... very disappointing. Yet they did comp one dessert when they learned we were celebrating my birthday and let me blow out a candle, which was sweet.
The view of the Columbia River is gorgeous and the tables are spaced far enough apart that you can converse with your table-mates without shouting. The atmosphere is fancy but not stuffy and I would feel totally comfortable bringing 2 well-behaved kids with me. The food is not fine dining, but rather a solid B+ with low-brow items on the menu like fish-n-chips. I enjoyed the Fried Chicken with Collard Greens and homemade, freshly baked biscuit ($20). Rather pedestrian fare but done very well! Staff was pleasant, e.g. AJ, but not too obtrusive. Missing from the normal course of high-end restaurants was the complimentary bread basket with butter. This is a cost-saving measure, of course. Didn't really miss the calories and we had ordered the pita and roasted red pepper hummus plate for only $8. Fabulous as well!
Classic and cool. The ambience was awesome. AJ service was fabulous and all six of our meals were great. The ONLY thing that would have made it a 10 was to have served the Moscow Miles in a copper mug rather than a regular glass.
Great scenery of the river, great food! Can’t complain. Although service was a little slow considering it wasn’t a very busy evening but overall good experience.
Great atmosphere sitting out on the river. We had a great dinner Unfortunately they had run out of fish and chips so we had to have something different but they come to me a dinner because of it thank you
Mother's Day brunch was lovely, the view can't be beat.
Mother’s Day Brunch was special. Good food, service, and views. Very comfortable dining for families.
Nice view of the Columbia River, pleasant service and so-so food.
For my wife and I, we thought it was just okay. We have eaten here previously and it was just fine. The biggest concern this time around was one of the meals. My wife ordered a pork chop. It was very thick, so out of habit she cut into it to check out the middle of the meat. And, there was some pink in the middle. The staff was very polite and considerate and took it back to cook another one for her. The manager came out and apologized, too. He also compt us a free dessert. After about 15 minutes, another plate was brought out with another pork chop. After cutting into this one, there was more pink in the middle than the last one. The server again apologized and her meal was compt this time. I kind of expected to see the manager again, but never did. We were more concerned about getting two pink chops than anything else.
We had been traveling and this seemed to be the best option close by.
I had the braised pork and it was delicious. My husband was happy with his tenderloin.
The flourless chocolate cake was very good.
Service was attentive and prices reasonable.
I can be a bit of a "foodie" and was really happy with the food quality.
Met a friend coming from Vancouver for a casual lunch, so it was a great mid-way spot for us as I was coming from Portland. The dining room as a nice view of the river and interstate bridge, so that's nice. I've been there during warmer weather and sitting on the patio is nice.
I'm not sure what may have been going on, but this time the server seemed a bit cranky and inattentive, so that was not so pleasant.
Decent food and price for general dining with easy parking.
I've been coming there seance it opened. Haven't been for a while but we moved to the island we'll be back I'm sure
The food was very good and the service was excellent, especially since we had so many people at our table. On a Monday Holiday evening it was very quiet and the ambience was great.
Service was prompt and the menu selections seemed to satisfy everyone. Thank you for being so helpful with out large party.
was called the day before to verify reservation and was asked if we would be fine with a high top table... meaning we would be on the upper level at a high table and was guareenteed we would be able to see the Christmas ships, easily, over the heads of those in front. NOT the case, was seated at a low table. couldnt see a thing on the river without standing up. Also, they had a special menu that was not communicated to me when I made the reservation. VERY DISAPPOINTED
We celebrated our daughter's 24th birrhday Dec.19 at the Jantzen Beach Bar and Grill. Our party of six included two vegans. I emailed the chef a few weeks before our meal and asked for special accomodations as the posted menu had very limited options for plant based dining. Chef Brett came through with beautiful roasted squash stuffed with artichoke risotto for the vegans and tasty prime rib, seafood stew and fish-n-chips for the carnivores. The dining room was packed due to the Christmas Ship parade but the room was well staffed with warm efficient servers. Chef Brett even came to join us for a birthday toast after dessert. We will be back for more family celebrations.
Nice view, that's all it has. The service was poor I had to ask for coffee after being seated for 25 mins. The service was horrible and the food was cold and lacking flavor, hash browns swimming in grease. Place smelled musty and floor was filthy. A very sad place even for a hotel restaurant.
