Janko's Little Zagreb Ratings and Reviews
The food was fantastic as always - I have eaten here 25 times
The meatballs were inferno hot - it does say that on the menu, but I believe it should be communicated before someone makes the purchase
The wine was also very good and reasonable
The noise level was quite high (it was before a home IU basketball game)
Took my son who is a student at IU
Was a homerun we loved it we will go back many times over the next three years
Our cable was right by the grill which was really cool
Love the way the roles were heated up on the barbecue grill for the steaks or cooked
Even a piece of free cheesecake for his birthday
Can’t wait to go back
We had a reservation at 6pm and we were running a little late due to traffic. I called them to let them know that we might be a few minutes late and they were very understanding. We would have been on time if there were access to parking at the restaurant, but it took us 10 minutes to find a place to park. Once we got inside, the smells are amazing! We ordered the shrimp cocktail for the appetizer, and a warning to people: the cocktail sauce is a little spicy! It took me and my wife a little off guard, but it was good! The salad that she ordered was just the right size to not get full on it, and to leave room for the entrée. She asked for ranch and the French dressings, which are house made by the way. She said she has never had a salad taste as great as this one! I substituted the apple sauce for my salad, and it tasted like a homemade dutch apple pie! I could have ordered it for dessert! Now comes the good part: the STEAK! WE both ordered the 20oz ribeye, cooked medium rare, which was right on point! The seasonings that they put on it tasted awesome, and it just melted in our mouths. My wife ordered a half pound of king crab legs, and yes, they were the king! Huge legs with a ton of meat. We were there for our anniversary dinner, and they gave us a slice of cheesecake that was at least three inches tall, and was so delicious that it was almost orgasmic! The only down fall that I can say about the evening, it is not a very big place, and when the front door opens, cold air rushes in and it is a little chilly. We will be returning for dinner again, just this time we will ask to be seated in a corner away from the door!
The steaks are absolutely first rate. But how about getting some new plates to serve them. Seriously, the ridiculously small plates really made it difficult to eat the gigantic steaks. The prices and food quality compare to "St Elmo's", but the interior is more "Denny's". It would be so easy to make this a first-rate dining establishment.
Not at all what we were expecting. I'd have to rate it as overpriced for the quality level of the steaks that we received. If this is the best Bloomington has to offer for steaks...I feel sorry for Bloomington. It was nice to try but a little pricey for this category of steaks. The service was good and it appeared that all of the servers were quite intent on satisfying everyone that was seated. Decent wine selection. a loud variety of music. An interesting place for certain but a little pricey for the quality. Been there now and done that now.
Enjoyed everything except the physical comfort. Table distance between guest and yourself was narrow. Felt like I was on top of the other party across from me. Booths were very uncomfortable. That was the only negative. NOW the food and service was exquisite. I would compare the quality and favor to any 5 star steakhouse in Indpls. The cheese tray appetizer was a meal in itself. It is a must "try". The filet was cooked perfectly for medium rare. The salad and potato were equally as well prepared. Again the service was exceptional.
I have been to Janko's many times and always enjoy the atmosphere and the food. This time was no different. Even though we were there following an IU football game our server took her time and did not pressure or rush us to order, eat, and get out. I wish the same could be said for one of the girls that was busing tables. She came to our table at least four different times wanting to clear our appetizer plate as if to hurry us along. The same continued into our dinner.
It seemed like every time we laid down our fork she would stop and ask if we were finished and could she get our plates out of the way. This was very annoying and made the overall experience less than enjoyable. I'll be back again for sure. I just hope I'm not as "rushed" by the staff the next time.
