Great as always. It was my girlfriend’s first time at Zagreb and she loved it.
Great meal...excellent service!
Lobster tail was probably the biggest I've ever seen.....tender and tasty!
Steak and Pork Chop GREAT!!!!
Mom's 88th birthday dinner....staff very courteous.
Only down side was it was alittle noisy.
Cut out the frills and focus on the best spicy meatballs you can find, a great wine list and then pick out a piece of top notch beef and a dressing for your salad. They have great options for those who don't want a big hunk of beef as well but I wouldn't know besides that I have heard from others on that front. Always hits the spot and good luck walking out without some leftovers. A Bloomington tradition unlike any other. You haven't really visited Bloomington till a trip to Janko's and a trip to Nicks.
Steaks are delicious along with the famous meatballs. Noise level is high but not to loud to have a conversation. Tables were small for the booths but waitress said they were getting in larger tables soon. All the staff are very impressive with not only how hard they work but how well they work together. It’s entertaining watching them hustling around.
If you looking for a Great Steak in a causal setting I’d recommend trying Yankos.
Go early, they are very busy and you may have to wait even with a reservation if you try to get in after 6:30. Had a 6:30 reservation, showed up at 6:15 and was seated immediately on Little 5 Friday night. The staff and food were outstanding.
Perfect .... as always!! Very fast service, steak was done to perfection. Loved it!!
Don't be confused about what this restaurant is and is not. It is a busy, lively place that serves great steaks, and great wines to go with them. Steaks do come with a green salad, and a baked potato and rolls. All good, but the steak is excellent. We had the sirloin for two, which they split before cooking so I could have mine nearly rare and my husband could have his medium. Both were cooked to perfection. The wine list is extensive. The service is efficient and friendly. We had a reservation and were seated on time.
Tradition in Btown!
Steak was great as always. They were way overbooked and was 30 minutes late getting to our table
I have been wanting to go to JLZ for awhile. I had a great filet and my son was very happy with his lamb chops. I wasn’t thrilled with the basic sides they offered though. Only baked potato, no fries or mashed or au gratin. Salad was very basic, lettuce only. Broccoli was good. They did have a kids menu and my daughter got steak for a reasonable price. It’s not a typical steak house menu however I believe it’s the best place in Bloomington to get a steak. The place is lively but interior is dark with paneling on walls. It’s clearly an older place. A renovation is in the future for sure! None the less you must make a reservation, the line was out the door.
Our appetizers, shrimp cocktail and meatballs, were excellent. The shrimp were large and fresh. The meatballs were very tasty with the right amount of spiciness.
The steaks were cooked to perfection.
What truly made our evening outstanding was our server, Kim! She was so attentive and made certain that our food was perfect.
It is rare to have the pleasure of such a wonderful person who wishes to insure that the dining experience is complete.
Kim was that person for us! Thank you.
The service was incredible - they are definitely a well-oiled machine when it comes to service. My Cavatappi was mushy and not flavorful, but the rest of the dinner and experience was awesome! I guess I should know to order steak in a place known for their steaks. :) The service made up for the one poor dish, which to their defense , I didn't mention to the server. We will definitely be back!
I heard a lot of good things about Zagreb's regarding the steaks and this is accurate. The steaks (petite filets done medium rare) were the best steaks at a restaurant ever; seasoned and grilled to perfection as tender as possible. The baked potato was soft, the appetizers of spicy meatballs had the right amount of spice and tomato sauce and the appetizer shrimp were firm and the cocktail sauce had the correct amount of horseradish. Our server was friendly and efficient. So why the 2 you ask? Because it wasn't a dining experience as should happen when paying the prices that are charged. We started with appetizers and after enjoying about half of the ordered appetizers, our salad was brought to the table and we were asked if the appetizers (half-eaten) could be removed. Our reply was a polite "No, we'd still like to enjoy them." After eating part of our salads, a server came by and asked if we'd like everything removed since our steaks were on the way. Of course it was "What, we're not done." So, while our salads were but half-eaten and our appetizers not done, our steaks showed up. As I said, they were outstanding, but even as we tried to enjoy them servers were coming by our table asking if they could remove anything. As my daughter said, "This is the most stressful, expensive dinner I've ever tried to enjoy." The steaks were very good but the whole dinner was ruined by the servers (who I'm sure are trained that way by the owner) who tried to push us on a forced march. We never did finish our appetizers, and when my daughter asked for a box to take it home along with her unfinished broccoli, they were offended that a customer would take time to box something to go! With dinner, we did order a nice bottle of Cabernet and was in the process of taking a picture of the label when the server grabbed it off the table. My wife was absolutely astounded and asked that it be put back so she could take the picture. It wasn't an enjoyable experience and we won't go back .
Expensive for the ambiance. It felt like a pizza place.
While the food is very good, the prices are utterly ridiculous and I have nothing more to say.
Indiana University visit. Great restaurant
First time eating here. Went on recommendation from golf buddies. Best steak you will eat anywhere. Can't wait to go back.
Chicken breast was dry. Water glasses are so small you barely get 3 sips before a refill is needed.
Excellent steaks simply and well prepared. Attentive wait staff. Only wish would be to see them add another higher-quality veggie side alternative to the baked potato—preferably a simple grilled asparagus. Steamed broccoli or mixed vegetables just don’t measure up to the hearty steaks.
Best steaks great service realistic prices
Had a reservation. Our time was honored to the minute. Server was very friendly and attentive. Our food took a bit long because of several large parties, but the server set our expectation up front and apologized for the wait. Food was absolutely wonderful! I only visit Bloomington once/year and always eat at Janko’s! Excellent place!
The food was awesome. Steak cooked perfectly. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were so big. Our waitress was great. We will defiantly come back.
We we visiting from out of town and this restaurant was located next to our hotel. We were very happy with the food and our service was very good. The place is very casual and the steaks were delicious and would absolutely return when we are back in town.
A great place for my birthday dinner with two friends. The steaks are great tasting and cooked as ordered. The waitresses are attentive and easy going. The venue itself is warm and inviting. We had virtually no wait time for our 8 PM reservation made on Open Table. What's not to like??
Great hole in the wall steak house with small town ambiance! Seared steaks and seasoning excellent! A must visit if in Bloomington.
Another great meal and my steak was cooked perfectly!
Best dinner in Bloomington! We all had steaks, excellent! Local ambiance, very casual and at a good price. Best steak I have had in a long time
This place is a great place for any occasion. The food is fantastic and the service is as well. This place is an institution in Bloomington!
Out-freaking-standing each and every time. The steaks are some of the best I have ever had in the world. My wife always chooses Little Zagrebs for her “special dates” as she loves it that much. To be honest, I do too, so I am glad when her birthday or whatever day comes around.
Wonderful steak and wine ❤️. Great waitress who remembered us from prior experience
Our waitress was great, very friendly and helpful.
We had a large group of 10. The seating is tight but you really can't argue with the amazing steaks.
The food was delicious. The service was fantastic. The smells were mouthwatering. It's not a cheap meal, but you get what you pay for. High-end steak dinner in a comfortable, casual environment. I'll certainly be back!
Hadn’t been to Little Zagreb’s in years and it didn’t disappoint. Exactly how I remembered, you get the best bang for your buck with a delicious steak in an atmosphere that doesn’t try too hard. Great music, great wine selection and great food. The staff was friendly and very attentive and the food was cooked perfectly.
I have a tradition of spending a weekend in March in Bloomington. And, while I have tried a number of local restaurants, I tend to return to my favorite spot, Little Zagreb. The reasons are simple: reliable service, quality food, and a mellow environment with little pretense. This weekend's meal was no exception. The host was the same young man that I have seen there for a number of years. (Does he age? I think not.) Our server Sage was a delight. Friendly and present, without being intrusive. The busser noticed that I was drinking water like a fish and replaced my small glass with a large one, to make it easier on both of us.
My dining partner and I ordered a meatball app (spicy and delicious...and we couldn't finish it all, even though it was only a half order) and sauteed mushrooms (amazing! likely a very simple recipe, but always delicious). We then departed from our norm of ordering ourselves individual steaks, which we typically try hard to finish. Instead, we ordered one 20 oz. ribeye, medium rare, that we split for $7 extra, giving us each a salad and a baked potato. This was a perfect decision. We had plenty of food, with nothing left over. The ribeyes were succulent, grilled exactly to a nice pink, medium rare. My friend had beer. I had one of the house red selections.
We did not feel rushed, yet were done in just over an hour. Very satisfied and happy customers were we.
Get the meatballs, cavatappi, and salad
Best steaks in town, with friendly and competent wait staff. Quick preparation time.
We typically dine once or twice a year to celebrate birthdays. Food is always great although this visit the steak seemed a bit salty. Love sitting close to the grill and watching the grillmasters at work. Wait staff are always hopping attending multiple tables but never felt abandoned. My water glass was never empty which is very important to me!
I love Janko's Little Zagreb, but this was not our best experience. Mushroom soup was watery, not up to there standard. My baked potato was not fully cooked, they had a pile of them setting out or on plates way before steaks made it there and wasn't particularly hot and one steak, Boneless New York strip was way undercook, had to be sent back. And my side of mushrooms were practically burnt on one side, where they had not been stirred in the pot. We make this an annual event for my birthday, coming in from Indy, meeting family from Bedford, while good, was not up to your usual standard.
We have ate here several times and never disappointed! The food is amazing and the service is great! I had shrimp cocktail, which are huge, 7 oz filet mignon cooked medium rare, baked potato. I made a note when I made the reservation we were celebrating 2 birthdays, at the end of the meal they brought them each a slice of cheesecake with a candle. It was melt in your mouth amazing. The service was spot on.
