   Unfortunately, our first visit to Janken was underwhelming. I had a business dinner with a client, and while we expected a high-end experience, the noise level in the restaurant was quite high—something to note, even if it’s not easily changeable. However, it was the food that fell short. We went with the recommended steak tartare, which I personally didn’t enjoy. The protein lacked flavor, and the toast was overly soaked in butter, making for a disappointing combination. For the main course, I ordered the halibut dish, which came with fried leeks. Shockingly, I almost swallowed two large fish bones that were hidden in the leeks. This was clearly an oversight in the kitchen and could have ended badly. The scallop dish, on the other hand, was well-prepared, but the halibut incident overshadowed the few positives from our meal. We finished with the Dubai chocolate dessert, which was sweet but lacked the refined presentation we expected. On the upside, we weren’t charged for the halibut and were offered a complimentary dessert as an apology. Overall, Janken did not deliver on its promise. With such great potential, we hope to see improvements in both accuracy and execution in the future

   From the hostess, to our server Sofia we're friendly, courteous and engaging. The food were delicious and very appealing; however, took a long time to arrive.

   The food was delicious although a bit overpriced IMO. Ambience was cool but fairly loud and we were sat right next to a full table when there were more tables available throughout the restaurant. We were celebrating and anniversary and looking for something a bit more romantic - would be better for a birthday or social gathering. Service was excellent. Also, for such a nice restaurant it was weird they had their menus on plain printed paper folded in half.. just added to the feeling that the food was overpriced.

   It was my birthday. Everything was delicious, the waitstaff was all attentive, the price point was spot on. I have texted photos and recommendations to all my favorite people. Can’t wait to go back.

    Jenken is pretty unique these days in Portland. We really didn't think it would make it because an average dinner is $100+. But they are consistent, have good crowds and the service is beyond compare here in Portland. We wanted for nothing and had at least 3 people taking our order, clearing table quickly and providing food expediently. Our dinners were well prepared and beautifully presented. I'm a vegetarian and found lots to choose from and my husband really enjoyed his scallops and soft shell crab sushi. I would highly recommend it.
