Jaleo as a whole never disappoints; some service staff do. Concrete example: I had to tell the same waiter three times that I was not finished with my espinacas a la catalana and to return the dish to the table.

Our only negative comment is that my wife wasn't seated when she arrived a few minutes before me, even though there were lots of empty tables. It began the occasion with a bad mood.

Jaleo is the best place in the DC area for tapas. They are having a Clementina Celebration. December 11 - 24, 2017. If you go there during this period, I recommend that you skip the special drinks and dishes, which I found overpriced and nothing special. The cochinillo con clementinas (Roasted suckling pig stuffed with dried fruits and nuts with clementine sauce) was not worth the $16 and the Clementine 75 (Clementine juice, gin, cava, lime) $13 sounded better than it tasted. In contrast, the regular menu shone. The Ostras 'Gin & Tonic' (Five oysters with lemon, gin and tonic) $15 was especially good as was the Pulpo a la gallega 'Maestro Alfonso' (Boiled octopus with peewee potatoes, pimentón and olive oil) - $12. Service was slower than usual. It took about $10 minutes to get a beer when the restaurant was almost empty, something that can only mean that somebody was not paying attention. If you like beer, the Alhambra Red (Spain) Doppelbock - $8 was a highlight. Alhambra is one of my favorite Spanish beer brands and this was the first time I have since this on draft in the US.

We always love Jaleo with the excellent selection of tapas, the Sangria is delicious, the wait staff are very friendly and helpful. One of our favorite DC restaurants. Cheers to Jaleo!

Jaleo never disappoints. The food, as always was superb, with plate after plate coming out in perfect timing. Sometimes, as a young person, I'll go to a restaurant and servers will treat me differently assuming perhaps that I won't leave a good tip. This happened this time, but it still didn't really create an awful dining experience. The people bringing the food were nice.

Happy with our time at Jaleo. Had a 6pm reservation and didn't get seated until 6:30, which was mildly irritating after walking all day. The staff brought out a complimentary appetizer and was very attentive through the meal. Food was fantastic. Ambience is lively and the decor is very unusual and interesting. Fun place, would recommend eating here.

Seated immediately at 4:30. We had a 7:30 concert so it couldn’t have been better. Tapas came as we finished the previous ones. Tapas were delicious and just spicy enough. Service was excellent by Eduardo; he was attentive to our process. We will return!

One of our "Must Eat At" Restaurants whenever we are in Washington, DC. Captures the true flavor and nature of Spanish Cuisine and the Barcelona Tapas experience.

Very lively place, a bit to lively as it was hard to engage in conversation given the noise level. Seating was very tight, to the point the sommelier had his coat and backside in our face / table without realizing it (or acknowledging it). That aside, I'm a big fan of sharing plates / tapas style and the menu did not disappoint with options. Good size shareable portions on what we ordered (mixed croquettes, cauliflower, tuna app, salmon on veggies), so 4 plates and we were satisfied. The menu is extensive with options for everyone. The food quality was disappointing for the price. Mild to no spice and nothing particularly memorable. The service was on par with the food, ok nothing exceptional and really difficult to hear. The cocktail (New York sour and El compadre) did standout as very tasty. Overall I'm glad we checked it out, probably won't be back unless it was for a cocktail and a quick bite at the bar.

Loved my first experience but the staff let me down on my second visit. Reservations were for 8:30 p.m. and we were told our table would be ready in 10 minutes. An hour later, we were still at the bar waiting for a text that never came. After checking on our table it was obvious that the hostess completely forgot about us. She then sat us at the worst table under blaring lights next to 20 college students who were boisterous and drunk. I had my cousin visiting from Guatemala who I really wanted to impress but unfortunately Jaleo let me down...I probably won't go back.

The food & service was stellar, as always. The foosball table is placed to catch every draft when the door opens though. On a cold night, it’s brutal until the wine warms you!

The service was slow today but I don’t think our server was at fault. It was busy and I think he has a lot of tables on his plate. Either way, it took a long time to get our orders taken and longer to get our drinks. Overall the food was excellent, like always!

I will continue coming here, the food always has me coming back.

We have spent considerable time in Spain, but these were some of the best tapas we have had. We also usually shun celebrity chef establishments but this was more than an exception. Modern takes on mostly traditional tapas. Excellent.

AND I left my credit card there and did not realize it for 24 hours later. They had it and were most polite about the entire matter.

The food and service was beyond description. I can still taste the "Olive" we were served. I wish there were more molecular gastronomy items available.

My only issue was the noise level which , if you are older is a bit much.

Excellent first time experience at Jaleo, DC! Food was excellent and portion size just right. The service was very good although dishes come out when ready and we did have to wait quite awhile for one. Notably, one person in our party has seafood and potato allergies which we were a bit nervous about because the menu is heavy in both of these items. We notified the hostess when we arrived and were so happy with the response! Jaleo has a special allergy friendly menu and by the time we were seated, everyone involved with service to our table was aware of the individual's allergies and extremely attentive to his needs. We will be back soon!

All of the tapas we had were absolutely scrumptious: shrimp with garlic, codfish fritters, apple/fennel/manchego salad, chorizo with white beans, etc. The cava sangria is perfect for the table when everyone is eating a variety of foods. Tables are a bit of a tight squeeze, so practice side-stepping on your tip toes before going.

WE dine several times a year at Jaleo's restaurant and love the food. I have only one complaint this time. The Escalivada catalana was way too salty. We could even crunch the salt when we chewed. This is a favorite and it has never been that salty before.

What a disappointment compared to Jaleo in Vegas. Ordered a Cadillac Margarita and my colleague ordered a glass of red wine. It took more than 30 minutes and they brought me a shot of tequila and my client a glass of wine loaded with cork debris. They then brought me something more closely resembling a margarita but a really bad one and definitely not a Cadillac.
They then served us a soup with no spoon. Food quality really sub-par. Service abysmal.
