Front desk was rude and hostile toward my party, first telling me that they couldn't accomodate my party that had a reservation, then telling me we would have to leave by a certain time to make room for another reservation. The table service was then super slow, and the women at the front desk stared at us while making motions to tell us to hurry up. Not a welcoming restaurant at all.
Great in every way. Busy, busy but good service and excellent food. It was a nice start to an incredible evening!!
Superb. I could go on at length but the chef's tasting menu was to die for. The service was literally excellent, as in much better than most restaurant experiences. Simply a wonderful experience. Don't be in a hurry. Not that service was slow; just that the plates kept coming.
Very good food. Service was a little slow
my wife and I try to get up from our home in Richmond to the F st. location about once a year cause we just like the whole vibe and the fun food. mon. night we went up for our 28th anniversary and we were not let down. yes, it's very crowded and loud but the food is good and service is spot on. it is a bit pricey but it's one of those places where you don't mind laying some extra coin on the table because you feel it's worth it. we'll definitely go back.
Great Food, cocktails, sangria and service. We always come here when visiting Washington, D.C.
Wonderful time at Jaleo! Tables are quite close together and it is always packed and loud, but the food is worth it! Two of us got 5 tapas that were very delicious! We got cauliflower, the patatas bravas, pork sausage, flautas jamon, and garlic shrimps We also got a cocktail each - definitely recommend the gin & tonics.
Tasty dishes, friendly/quick service, delicious sangria. Although it seemed meat heavy there were some nice options for the vegetarian in our group.
Great service - and great f&b. Consistently one of the best
Our server was very inattentive, we had to track him down for everything we needed. Food was great but it would have been nice to have some explanation of what things were when they were just dumped at our table.
Place has a cool vibe to it. Classic sampler left something to be desired. Flavors are good, hostess was rude. Server was better.
Good. We had a reservation for a month but they tried to seat us by the kitchen door. The hostess had a little attitude after we refused. Our server was fun and helped us navigate the extensive menu. The food was uniformly good...how many restaurants can boast THAT? Not a loser in our 12 picks.
Great service, food, and drinks. We sat outside and enjoyed the wonderful weather. Can’t wait to come back!
A (little) disappointment.
Ordinary croquettas & tortilla.
Friendly & fast service.
We we're seated promptly, our server was very knowledgeable, our small plates were very sharable 2 salads, two fish and 1 veggie were more than enough. The trout and salmon were perfectly prepared and interesting too.
Fabulous tapas! We ordered several tapas and each one was presented beautifully and was delicious. My son especially enjoyed the liquid olive.
Delicious in every possible way. We actually had breakfast at the DC location and dinner at the Bethesda. Both were wonderful.
We went here for our Anniversary and loved it! The food was outstanding, the service impeccable and location unbeatable! If you’re in the DC area and looking for great food this is the place!
Perfect outdoor experience on beau
I've been to several Jaleo locations and have encountered somewhat surly service at times, but today's was downright indifferent. I met a business colleague for lunch on a glorious weather day and was glad to be offered a seat outside, but was utterly disappointed by terrible service. We never had our water glasses refilled, and I had to ask three separate people for a soup spoon--but only got one after my soup was already cold. My accompanying grilled cheese was overly greasy and generally unappetizing as a result. Next time, I'd stay away from the lunch menu and stick with tapas, and will give some thought to whether there are better options in Penn Quarter.
Everything was great. The food was delicious and our server was really nice and attentive. The only thing is that I had given very specific instructions when making the reservation on Open Table (and when confirming it on the phone) about an appetizer that was supposed to come after ordering the drinks and the hostess did not convey that to the server. I went up to the hostess stand to address it and she apologized and said she’d take care of it right away. But she didn’t. I went to server and asked him about and he had no idea. He rang the app right away and brought it to the table, but the idea was for this to happen without making a fuzz about it. I wanted it to be a surprise for my friends.
They are putting items from 25 yrs ago as specials. The sautéed squid with squid ink sauce and rice is just wonderful!
Suggest to your newbies, two tapas per person and share.
Great food but waited long for a table despite reservations
First time trying OpenTable reservation. Had to wait 45 mins for a table even with reservation. I guess OpenTable reservation does not really work here because the restaurant is very popular and so crowded. Otherwise, food was excellent.
Great tapas, tasty sangria, nice atmosphere, good service, decent value for money. As the restaurant is always busy, waiters can be a bit eager to take your plates and bring the check. But I would definitely recommend.
This is a must stop in DC for the wide variety of food. Be sure to try the patatas braves, a house specialty. With so many items, servers may have a hard time getting everything straight, but the food is why you go here!
Great food and atmosphere. Enjoyed the new menu. We will miss this place when we move.
The seating is comfortable. The food is terrific and the choices seem endless! Love it... a new favorite spot.
Jaleo is just plain fun! Great place to gather with friends and family.
Went for my mom’s birthday and ordered the classic Jaleo tapas menu. The service was great and the food was delicious.
Love the atmosphere and the vibrancy of the restaurant.
We had a great time.
Flew to DC from Vermont for our anniversary and to dine at Jaleo.
It was fantastic!!!
We had the brunch tasting menu Jaleo experience... and what a wonderful experience it was!
My knife was dirty and took a couple times asking for a clean one, but they were very busy.
Overall it was great and the sangria is superb!
Went to Jaleo for Sunday brunch. Selection was very limited and portion size was small. I would not recommend this restaurant for Sunday brunch. There are better alternatives elsewhere in the area.
For the price ($55 per person) I would have expected the ambience to be a little more classy. It almost looks like an Applebee’s. Food was okay at best. But service was excellent.
The wait staff worked very hard, but was very busy. Portions were very generous, but some were too spicy for our tastes.
As busy as Saturdays during cherry blossom season normally is, we made an early reservation for dinner at 4:45pm, which turned out to be a great idea. The restaurant was still fresh with the night shift crew, and we were able to take our time ordering and enjoying cocktails and wine. The gin & tonic presentation is great, and we started with the cono de salmon and aceiunas 'Ferran Adria' liquid olive "appetizers" (the tapas plates are all appetizer sized, and made for sharing). We really enjoyed the patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo, chorizo casero con pure de patatas, and pollo al ajillo con salsa verde. Definitely, go with an inquisitive appetite and enjoy!
Excellent tapas restaurant. Flavor combinations were incredible. Cocktails were very good. Seating is a bit tight. Noise level is moderate.
The place was very busy (around 2PM on Saturday) but we were able to get our reserved table fairly quickly. Service was dismal.
For 2 people dining together we were served in the following order: 1st person's entree, then bread basket with first person's drink, then second person's drink and then second person's entree. There was a gap of 5-7 minutes between each round of service. So the 2nd person just sat there for a long time waiting to be served something.
This is a bizarre order of service and it wasn't just our table. Other tables were also being served in random order. Kitchen was clearly very busy and so were the servers, so they were just putting out food/drinks in whatever order they could.
Having said that the quality of food was excellent. I would return for the food but pick a less busy time, if such an option exists.
