The food and service overall were good. But we were assigned to a table, which was extremely cold. Some of those tables should not be assigned to guests. It was not comfortable.

We enthusiastically recommend the Jaleo Experience. It did take over 2 hours but it was worth the time! The selections were excellent and weren’t necessarily options we would have tried if left to our own devices. The 13 course experience culminated with two amazing desserts...we were both stuffed, happy, and thrilled to have gotten to try so many traditional and modern Spanish tapas.

This place is just ok for us. Bit fusion-y for tapas, which if you just want regular tapas as in Madrid, this is not for you. Great location, nice building. $16 cocktails are also something I’m morally opposed to.

It's always wonderful--Jaleo never disappoints! We got the Brunch Tasting Menu and enjoyed everything.

I've been to Jaleo quite a few times. This past experience was probably the worst service wise but the best food wise. We had to wait over 20 minutes for a table and while other groups were offered free drinks/appetizers in apology--my group was not. I guess we should have complained. It also took almost 10 minutes before a waiter came over to us and even longer for him to come back to take an order. However, once we ordered and chose the Experience Tasting menu & wine pairing, the night quickly improved. The food was delicious and creative. It was good deal for the price, considering all the food you get to try! My favorite dish was the goat cheese and salmon roe cones or the croquettes or the asparagus! My least favorite was oddly the paella. Overall, it was a good experience.

Arrived a few minutes early but didn’t end up sitting down until about 20 minutes past reservation time. Food was good and came at a good pace. However the tables are so close that everyone is in each other’s business while talking. This is not a place for a private conversation of any kind which kind of ruined the meal because you sometimes want to have a one on one conversation.

I LOVE Jaleo! I go there each time I am in DC and have been doing since 1995
However, we made a reservation for 4 people (including 2 young kids) and had to wait 25 minutes before the table was cleared. The food was great, but the kids exhausted. It made for a difficult night....

I have been going to Jaleo's for over 20 years. It is still as good as the first time. Always new dishes to go along with mainstay tapas. Full meals including paellas also available. They will also prepare off menu items upon request. All Spanish wine list is outstanding. Wines available by the case upon request. You will not find a better wine list in Spain. We always go to Jaleo's for at least one meal when in DC or Crystal City.

I enjoyed the service. Our server understood we were on a time crunch; I told him all the ingredients I was looking to avoid and he could quickly recommend plates to me. No much in the way of carb selection that met my wheat/soy/dairy free diet and the menu items were expensive but delicious. I felt like the portion s could have been bigger but maybe that is just because I am pregnant and breastfeeding.

This place is a classic, and can be whatever you want for pretty much any occasion. Dress it up for special occasions, or make it very casual. It’s the food and service that matter. The seating can be a little tight though, so if that bothers you...

There are no bad tapas; only really good and great ones. Perfect method is to order a few, assess hunger and order again if desired. Friendly helpful staff.

I was looking forward to dining at Jaleo, since I'm a fan of Jose Andres. However, the staff were inattentive and did not explain the dining experience, menu, dish sizes, or dining format at all, leaving us at a loss for what and how much to order. We made selections, and while the food tasted okay, I was not impressed -- but I would chock that up to not choosing the right dishes.

We went to Jaleo to celebrate our friends’ birthday. We arrived early to our reservation. The birthday boy (who ordered 3rd in our party of 8) never received his food order. When we alerted the server of this, he asked if he still wanted his food, he said yes, food was never brought out. Server was not attentive to return regularly to take drink orders or additional food orders or even allow us to remind him we were celebrating a birthday (as I noted in my reservation on OpenTable). Unfortunately for the server, he missed out on what would have surely been a much higher tab with a higher tip. After it was clear that his food was not going to come, we sang happy birthday to our friend out loud and a manager or hostess must have over heard us sing because shortly after a flan was brought out with a candle and we sang again. We certainly appreciated this gesture. We would have been more inclined to forgive the overall poor service however the Server brought the check to our table (he never checked that the missing food was ever brought out or asked if we were done ordering). The 3 tapas that the birthday boy ordered and never received were all on the bill. We alerted the server yet again and at first he tried to say that 1 of the tapas had been delivered (it had not) and had acknowledged that the other 2 had not been delivered. We were shocked that he knew the tapas were never provided and he stuck it on the bill anyway. He eventually fixed the bill. It was a most sour experience even though the food and ambiance were mostly enjoyable. The birthday boy was a great sport and we went to another restaurant afterwards so he could finally eat! I was really bummed because we were excited to celebrate our friends’ birthday and provide support to Jose Andres after all the great work he has done and continues to do in support of PR. We will have to try one of his other establishments next time.

We have been going to Jaleo for years, but we agreed that the food on this visit was better than ever. As people who have traveled to Spain numerous times, this is the closest we have found to real Spanish Tapas in the Balto/DC area. The broth of the seafood soup was richly developed, the butternut squash soup was the best I have ever tasted - savory and buttery. The gazpacho was an unusual combo of beets and tomatoes with goat cheese and pistachios, and it was delicious - definitely a gazpacho and not a borscht, but I don't know how they did it! One of our party had the JLT - a grilled sandwich with iberico ham. They declared it wonderful. We also got our must-haves to share - fried squid with garlic/squid ink aioli, shrimp in garlic, Patatas Bravas and grilled peppers in sherry sauce. All top-notch authentic Spanish tapas done expertly. This was a lunch birthday party, and was one of the best visits to Jaleo ever!

The only issue was that the lobster rice was cooked/seasoned very poorly and was almost inedible. Otherwise, the New Year’s Eve menu was very impressive, and we had a lovely table by the window!

I love tapas but this was my first time to Jaleo. Overall not impressed. The waiter was nice but had major language barrier issues and didn't seen too knowledgeable about the food/drinks. I asked if they had Chopin vodka, but after i had made a few attempts at the question, he still couldn't answer the question. So I ended up ordering a grey goose , but instead got a ketel one.

I also had a sip of a sangria that a friend ordered. Also not impressed.

As for food, I had questions about the seafood. Not sure if I should expect him to know where the salmon came from (e.g., Alaskan, Atlantic, etc.)? At the very least, he didn't even know if the salmon was wild or farm raised. Despite their outer appearance with the décor and stuff, my personal experience with them makes Jaleo a low end restaurant.

I have never been to D.C. before and planned to eat there with my friend for New Year's Eve weekend. After a search of various restaurant choices, this seemed the most appropriate and fun. There is a certain inviting aspect of the website that made me decide that this was the right choice. Upon entering Jaleo, we were greeted by a very friendly staff. Throughout the evening, the right balance of check in, banter, and charisma by the waiter lead an enhanced dining experience for my guest and myself. I would love to eat here again the next time I am in D.C..
