The food is always tasty and prepared and presented in artful and interesting ways. Our only objection is the hostesses seem to think if one is not trendy or young they can give you tables that are not very desirable. They needed to train their employees not to let their personal biases affect patrons.
yummy as always
Always love eating at Jaleo when I have out of town guests. Every dish was delicious with beautiful presentation. Can't wait to come back.
Everything is a jewel. Highly recommend the fried eggplant. Three-four dishes are plenty for two.
The food is very good and interesting. The place is lovely and not too jammed with tables so you can actually hear
Wonderful in all respects, food, service, price. It never lets me down!
Every single dish we had was exceptional. The service was kind and generous and we were there early evening on a Monday and it was a calm, pleasant atmosphere for a meal with my parents. Highly recommend the garlic shrimp, the rabbit, the skirt steak, and the fennel, apple, walnut, manchango salad. And save room for dessert here!!
Jaleo is a reliable old friend. The tapas are uniformly tasty and generous in their quantities. The staff are friendly and helpful, if not always speedy. We love going here.
Jaleo is tops on our go-to list when we visit D.C., and this recent experience met all expectations, so much so that we went for lunch there both days when we were recently in town. Its "quick lunch" is an amazing bargain, and I ordered it each day. Deliciousness prevails in a lovely butternut squash soup, its famous garlic shrimp tapa complemented by sauteed spinach with raisins, and ending with Jaleo's incomparable flan. No better lunch anywhere. All this served up by friendly, professional wait staff in a bright and lively environment. Perfection!
Had a variety of dishes all of which were good. However the fried Japaneese eggplant with lemon and honey was particularly striking and quite different. Also had a special which was a braised brussel sprouts which was quite interesting and for us different. Had the scallops with a pumpkin sause which was good. The scallops were excellent. Overall a good and varied meal. Service was excellet.
A perfect leisurely lunch during a day of visiting museums. Excellent service and the food was superb, as always. The fried calamari, sauteed spinach, liquid olives and more - every bite was delicious.
We enjoyed the Classic Brunch tasting for a romantic Saturday brunch. It was a wonderful variety of different breakfast dishes and a lovely mimosa to top it off! We loved the variety, and the amount of food was perfect, enough to make us full but not stuffed. We would definitely go back for brunch again!
At first the service was slow but then the waiter was accommodating through the rest of the courses. The food was wonderful & the wine pairings were great. The waiter did a good job on describing the tapas items.
Needs a reboot. Last two trips have been declining disappointments. The smell table tops wiped with dirty dish towels greets you. Service was poor. Even the beers and drinks came in delayed waves. Identical tapas plates came late and ten minutes apart. Final plate came with the check. For such a great location and even greater owner chef this one needs a new shot of attention
Friends from out of town
Had a reservation for a group/ the number kept fluctuating. Staff was great and we ended up with 5 at a round table. Attentive service, good food, delicious drinks. Still a favorite!
My third visit to Jaleo. The food as well as the presentation is over the top.
Try the $20 lunch special.
Only service was less than ideal. Otherwise great food and experience.
Window table, carafe of Sangria, 7 diverse and flavorful tapas shared by 2, great Flan and coffee-Excellent service and tour of extensive menu- We’ll be back to try more dishes and Paella
Jaleo never disappoints. We tried the tasting menu; it was outstanding.
The food and service was good. Our issue was we were offered a 2013 vintage which we ordered based on The waiters recommendation. When they brought the bottle over and showed it to us we didn’t even look at it because we were all involved in a conversation. However three forth into the bottle I was playing with the cork and noticed the year 2014. I called the waiter and asked him if the Bottle he recommended was a 2013 or 2014. The waiter quickly said 2013 and I knowledged it was a mistake. I question what the price would be for the 2014 which was a vintage we did not order any he called the manager over. The manager Explain they just received the new inventory of wines and the wine list had not been updated. He quickly offered me a 50% discount. It was our first night in Washington DC for the holidays and I was not about to argue “why I had to pay for a bottle of wine which we did not order”. Truth be told we should not have been billed for something we didn’t order. Unsure if we will return and it has to do with trust rather than dining experience.
I visited here several years ago and have remembered it as my favorite all time restaurant. I was worried going back and having experienced many more delicious meals that it would fall in it’s ranking. I also had an opportunity to meet up with a recently found cousin. We stayed at our table an extended time visiting and enjoying our time together. It was everything I needed it to be and more. Delicious food, excellent service, and a beautiful place to always remember this special moment. Thank you Jaleo!!!!
I was transported to Spain during this wonderful meal. The food and wine were both delicious.
Jaleo was great! Comida riquísima, servicio excelente y un ambiente estupendo. Si vuelvo a DC, regreso a cenar a Jaleo seguro. Enhorabuena por un buenísimo trabajo. Gracias por acercar nuestra comida y nuestra cultura a este lado del Atlántico.
Happy Thanksgiving 2019 y hasta pronto.
Saludos desde Minnesota.
We really enjoyed the food, the staff was friendly and conversational, and it was a great night out with good friends.
I was excited to finally get to Jaleo and after a visit to Spain this summer, to enjoy tapas again. I think I had more of the traditional dishes in mind and didn't find them as similar as I was hoping. But we enjoyed them nonetheless. I do vote for crispier patatas bravas! The two of us shared a salmon tartare cone, the garlic shrimp (did have to ask for bread and mop up that butter!), baby squid and beans, cod fritters (much lighter than I anticipated and don't miss the honey aioli). The dish of the night was the brussels sprouts special - amazing. And the shared flan was a great way to finish. Our waiter seemed very preoccupied and considering he only seemed to have three tables, he would disappear for lengthy times.
Our first time back in almost 10 years. Just as good as we remember with some new/updated additions. It can get pricey if you want to try a lot of different items, but your taste buds will thank you. Even our young boys loved it! Would for sure go back - hopefully not in another 10 years!
We loved Jaleo!!!! From the food to the service to the atmosphere!! This will definitely be a regular spot for us! Best spot around for tapas!!
The combination of flavors I would not have thought would be so good. Jaleo's menu fits everyones taste buds. I would definitely go back!
Jose A. Runs a great ship or rather many ships and they all seem to be able to provide diners with well thought out, prepared and served meals. Jaleo in. Nevada is as good a restaurant as Jaleo in DC. If you are looking for a good meal think of “Joe”
Always a dining pleasure. The brussel sprouts were especially delicious. The Pago wine was exceptional.
Excellent lunch menu! Will come back!
We were seated at first at a strange high-top in a corner. The chairs were incredibly uncomfortable. Luckily, they offered to reseat us at a “normal “ table which was much more comfortable.
Food was terrific!
Food is too expensive. Go to Latasca for all you can eat tapas for $40!
I'm a Spaniard living in the USA. I had the chance to visit DC for work and I decided to book Jaleo to taste a bit of my homeland. Everything is fresh. The food tastes like in Spain. A bit pricey compared to Spain, but worth paying the premium
Despite making a reservation we had to wait 15 minutes to get to our table. The tables were also very cramped and difficult to get in and out. Food was great though!
Would have rated the food a 5 but two of the 3 in our party shared the octopus and, oddly, about an hour later, at the hockey game, both had an intestinal reaction that kept them in the restrooms for most of the first period. It fortunately passed but it seemed clear to us that the octopus was the culprit.
A favorite since it opened in the 90s, Jaleo DC is still in the game. I haven’t had brunch there for several years, and every dish was special. I highly recommend the Jaleo Experience tasting menu for the table. All of our party were delighted.
