I love every José Andrés restaurant! This was up to his high standards.
Parents first time in DC and Birthdays
We’ve been enjoying Jaleo Penn Quarter for over 20 years. It’s a favorite spot (among several great options) for dinner before Shakespeare Theatre. The food is consistently delicious and innovative and the space nicely done with whimsical touches.
The food was outstanding. We went there for a birthday celebration and everyone left satisfied.
Terrible food, shame on Chef Jose Andres and the team for allowing Jaleo to fall to such terrible shape. Good was awful and it was embarrassing for me to bring my guests visiting DC there. Restrooms smelled, waiters were uninformed about the menu, food was gross. Better we go with fast food than Jaleo. Not again.
I had not had dinner @ Jaleo in a few years, and I wondered if the food would have maintained the quality I remembered. I went with some friends to celebrate one of my friend’s birthday. I am very happy to say we had an excellent experience from start to finish. We started in the bar for cocktails; I had El Compadre (bourbon & aperol) which was a great combination. One of my friends was not feeling great, so I suggested she ask for club soda & bitters and he knew just what to make. We had an 8:30 reservation, but were not seated until 8:45 or so, but the hostess was very apologetic.
Our server, Samuel, was enthusiastic, charming and gave us great recommendations—the G&T he directed us too was crisp and refreshing. We had 2 waves of tapas—some old favorites and some new. All were excellent. At the end of dinner, our server brought flan with a candle for the birthday girl. Kudos to Jose Andres and his team for keeping the quality of this restaurant consistent!
Saturdaty night dinner resy for 5 ppl at 8:15pm. We didn't get seated until almost 9pm. No apologies, no comps, -nada. Fortunately- we weren't in a hurry. Food was really good.
Awesome as always. The fried chorizo with potato is still a big favorite, but the fried pork loin with cheese and ham is a new favorite.
We had not been back to Jaleo DC in quite a few years. If anything, and it's hard to believe, it's as good as it ever was and possibly better than ever. There were 3 of us, and we had the 3 cheese board, the eggplant/red pepper/onion dish, the spinach, scallops, duck, the tenderloin and flan. Each was delicious. The service was friendly, responsive and efficient. Next time we won't wait as long befire returning.
We absolutely loved Jaleo! The food was amazing and the service fantastic!
Recommend Jaleo? We’re coming back, and we live in California. Have the rabbit, it is delicious. Julian waited on us, very informative on how the selections are prepared, good knowledge of the wines as well.
The food is fabulous, as always. Also, some of it is creeping up in price (2 scallops for $18, though they were excellent). Very noisy, still, even though I noticed acoustic fabric on the ceiling; not as noisy as Oyamel, so that is an improvement for the ears.
Absolutely delicious. Had the José’s tasting menu and it was just fantastic. The rose sangria was perfect as well. Cannot wait to come back.
We were very happy with our waiter and the food. However, we felt that the hostess was extremely rude and dismissive of us. We had a 7:00 reservation but arrived about 10 minutes early so our table was not ready yet. We ended up not being seated until 7:20. The restaurant was busy - the normal Friday night crowd and a medium size party. The hostess appeared to seat two parties before us even though we were all there before the other two parties. The number of people in the party wasn't a factor either. Further, not everyone in one of the parties that was seated before were even at the restaurant yet. It appeared to us that the hostess was giving "preferential treatment" to the parties seated before us.
We had to add an extra person on the same day as our reservation. On a Friday night, while very, very busy, they accommodated us and added an extra chair. This is why I always come to Jaleo whenever I'm in DC
A wonderful experience!! An amazing trip to Spain and all it’s wonderful flavors in D.C . José Andrés never disappoints!!!
Dinner, sangria and server were all great!
Consistently wonderful food and service! They were so accommodating in allowing us to add people to our reservation, the specialty cocktails were amazing and the food and atmosphere were great.
Always delicious, after all these years. You can count on quality and great service.
One of my favorites in Washington. I took clients there and they are from a rural area and unaccustomed to a place like Jaleo's. They loved it and raved about it all night. They also loved the story of Jose Andres and what he is doing for communities.
We asked for a quiet table so we could talk, and they gave us the quietest one they have, in a small private nook for one two-seat table off in a corner, which was fine with us and did allow a conversation. Otherwise the place is deafening, although the food is exquisite, ambitious, distinctive and delicious. Four items is plenty for two people.
Excellent good and variety just a bit noise overall
This is my favorite restaurant when going to Caps games!!! Great food and reasonable prices. Super staff and comfortable setting. Love you guys!!!!
Delicious food, reasonable prices, perfect service.
Jaleo is one of my two favorite restaurants in D.C. The menu offers great choices. The grilled cheese sandwich with its three delicious cheeses is the best I have ever had anywhere. The list of quesos is marvelous. The attention of the staff is remarkable. We requested a quiet place and our table in a quiet corner was perfect. I always feel welcome here, very much at home.
This is a great venue, improved by knowing that the owner is a wonderful philanthropist!
Best food and wonderful service
We had a very bad first encounter in the restaurant. Had made a reservation and was overlooked three times by the hostess when I tried to check in upon arrival. Then, when I did finally receive attention, she told me it would be a while for a table. Seemed like poor planning. Our waiter, Faustino, saved the day with his excellent service! Food was also very good. We would return but hope their hosting staff improves.
We enjoyed the meal, however service was off- very slow to take order, one drink quite delayed, and had barely time to finish (had to get dessert boxed) even though we had let them know that we had theater tickets.
Delicious take on brunch with small plates and tapas style. Be sure to make a reservation as the place fills up quickly.
The food was just not what it used to be. Jamon bellota was on the saltier side for some reason. Octopus was just bland - you could be eating paper. It was that tasteless. Beet salad was ok but even gourmet cafes offer better ones these days. Liquid olives were the perennial winner. Wine by the glass selection was basic and not that good (shocking given what Spain has to offer) I should mention the bottle selection is much better and has some great wines. Service was diner level quality. Our waiter was hurried, not caring and not savvy. Atmosphere is lively but the whimsical decor is past its day. Jaleo seems to be tired as an old man. It needs some attention and updating.
As always the food was outstanding. Excellent service.
Server (Samuel) was incredible. Made great suggestions and was a genuine, kind person. Will definitely be back!
Jaleo’ s food was as exceptional as always. The waiter was ok but not on the top of his game as those on previous visits.
The food here is great - excellent flavors, great presentation and good variety. Our server was also very good. However, my experience with the hostesses and delay in being seated soured the experience. The hostesses did not make us feel welcome. Despite having a reservation, we were seated 25 minutes after our reserved time and after many couples who came in after us. We were told to wait at the bar and completely forgot about. I informed the manager and he was gracious and apologetic. I hope my next experience at Jaleo is better. Chef Andres makes a great product but needs a better hostess team as they are the first impression when entering his establishment and set the tone for the whole experience.
The service was incredible! The host noticed I was struggling with the menu. He came over and walked me straight through it. The food was great!
Really slow service
Brunch wasn’t really satisfying
We went to lunch before the Washington Nationals parade. Restaurant was crowded with other parade goers. The waiter was very helpful, albeit a little rushed. The restaurant accommodated my gluten sensitivity well. Food was very tasty. They had a special themed drink- Baby Shark mimosa.
SO DRAFTY WHERE WE SAT! It was like eating outside. Food was just okay.
Bathrooms were very dirty.
