I am a huge fan of Jose Andres and his properties. The Bethesda branch of Jaleo was disappointing. The service was slow and uninformed, the manager off and food not up to the quality in expects. It is time for a face lift and some attention.

Food highlights: crispy French baguettes, garlic shrimp, sangria (much better than most), traditional flan (triple yum), lamb chops. So-so: Brussels sprouts salad with pomegranate seeds (double bland), mixed seafood (shellfish had questionable odor), squash soup, chocolate flan (a poor imitation of mousse). My companion was disappointed not to see squid on the menu in form eaten in Spain. Service was very good.

Dingy chairs - needs to be replaced. Not the go to spot it used to be for us . So many items on the menu were not available . Jose Andres has forgotten how he started. We will not be back.

Food was great, but the service was super slow. It took almost 3 hours for our dinner. Our waitress was not that friendly nor attentive.

Every time we visit DC we always go to Jaleo. It never disappoints! Great tapas that includes the normal as well as inventive dishes.

Made reservations as it was my mother in laws 86th Birthday. Asked for something special to be done. Never acknowledged Birthday even after I️ had confirmed with hostess when we first arrived. After the meal I️ went to hostess she said they had gotten busy and had forgotten. We will forget to put this restaurant in our rotation or to recommend.

Food and service were great, but we were seated near the front desk and were blown with cold air every time the front door opened. Very disconcerting--prevented from fully enjoying the food.

Overall absolutely fantastic. Came here with the wife for a date as Jaleo was one of our first dates when we first started dating. We did the Jaleo Tasting experience option that was $70/person. Worth every penny!

We LOVE Jaleo! The food is always creative and delicious with extremely fresh ingredients-- IF you order unusual dishes. Most people tend to order the default paella and similar tried and true traditional tapas, but they are missing out on a much more delicious dining experience here. There are always special tapas, and wine or sherry pairings, and we have always found them wonderful. On this visit, it turned out they were having a sherry event, with complimentary sherry before dinner and then pairings of a small taste of sherry (carefully explained by the bar staff) with some superbly yummy tapas bites-- for $3 per person!! The service is always attentive without being intrusive, and I love how the staff is in sync when bringing out dishes, keeping the table clear (important when the whole dinner is a zillion tapas plates) and the glasses full. If you are adventurous when reading the menu, you can't go wrong here.

The food is wonderful. The service was good but somewhat rushed, surprisingly so based on past visits and on the fact that it was not crowded on this Wednesday evening (that's why it got only 3 stars for ambiance). Definitely recommend the fried eggplant with light honey, a new dish to us. The gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp) are always good, as is the spinach with apples and raisins. Chicken croquetas were ok - not my favorite in any case - but the dates in bacon were fabulous. We had the least expensive bottle of albarino (same one they use for albarino by the glass), and it was fine.

Excellent and fresh tapas. My husband and I had the Classico menu with a sample of the tapas
as the choice can be overwhelming. It was delicious, I would say authentic (I'm not Spanish), and very fresh. Lots of red peppers, greens, and yummy bread. Beautifully presented. Very knowledgeable and friendly waitress. The room was very busy (Saturday) so not a place for quiet conversation. We would go again despite it being fairly pricey.

I lived in DC for five years and always loved this place. Now I lived a few hours away, but convinced a group of friends to make the drive for my 30th birthday. Many of us are or have been servers/bartenders so we understand the demands of a large party. However, our server behaved as if she was trying to avoid us. Of those of us who were able to flag her down individually for just our second round of drinks, only one arrived. We would have happyily ordered several rounds of drinks if they had been offered in the pace they were being consumed. They did comp that missing round, but then one of the glasses we had to wait for was obviously the wrong pour. Additionally, one tapa came out well after we were finished eating and we had to ask about ordering dessert. We were all highly disappointed and are unlikely to return. I would caution people about bringing a party to this restaurant, because the server acted as if we weren't there.

A Tapas restaurant that serves very good dishes. However, staff would benefit from more knowledge of the food they are serving (may be bad luck with server).
Been here many times and still enjoy it.

We are visiting Washington again and also repeating with El Jaleo. The decor is now nicer. The food as good as it was back then, which is already a good indication. As a Spaniard it is a real pleasure to eat good Spanish food as well or even better than in Spain here in the US.

My mother and I had a fabulous Sunday lunch at Jaleo, enjoying the beautiful weather outside. I loved the broccoli salad with apples, oranges, almonds, etc; my mother loved her hanger steak with roasted potatoes. We both enjoyed the almond cookie soup for dessert! The service was excellent.

The restaurant was not full but service was really slow. My companion didn’t order the free cava/wine with the brunch special and the server didn’t do anything to offer him an alternative. The food was good but I think I prefer the downtown dc location better for service, ambiance and food.

I like this restaurant. It was my 3rd time, but it's always very busy so a lot of noise and it's totally overpriced. Every time I ate there I'm flabbergasted how much I need to pay for the amount of food. 100$ per person is in my opinion to much for what I get. I won't go there back although the food is good.

I was pretty disappointed -- the cod fritters lacked flavor, the Ajo Blanco soup was weird at best, and we found it inedible. The 3 pea salad was great, as was the bread and olive oil. Most disappointing was that our bartender/server forgot an item we ordered, and once the food came never checked on us to see, otherwise we would have told him the soup was... off. We both had an upset stomach the next day, but more over, the lackluster experience in service left a bad taste in my mouth. Not sure I'll return.

I've come to Jaleo Bethesda about 5 times now and my experience has always been about the same. Food is good. Love the bread with olive oil and garlic on the side. The service however is inconsistent. Dinners are fine but the brunch/lunch service is bad. The restaurant would seem pretty empty yet I have always to wait pretty long to even get my water, then wait for pretty long to get my order taken. Once the order is taken, food comes out fast and consistently so, which tells me the bad service is on the front end and not the kitchen staff. I'm writing this only because I hope they improve.

Pretty excellent tapas restaurant with a lot of variety to the menu and new, interesting dishes every time we come by. Only downside is you never quite know what you're getting from the menu descriptions, and it can be a wee bit overwhelming to pick what you want (and remember your selections) from a very full menu. Try the bacon-wrapped dates, flan for dessert, and one of their interesting cocktails.
