Jaleo - Bethesda

Several issues: We had to wait for a table despite having a reservation. We had trouble getting the waiter's attention to order a second glass of sangria. The patatas bravas were dry and overcooked and needed more sauce. The lamb was a bit tough. The quail dish was pretty bad.
We have had good dining experiences at Jaleo before but unfortunately this visit was disappointing. I would still recommend it because I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they were having a bad evening.
We had great time at Jaleo. Food was delicious - waitress’ recommendations were spot on for us. White sangria was yummy! Service was excellent too! I would definitely go there again.
As usual, wonderful food. We brought our out of town friends for a 50th bday. We were too full for dessert, since we over indulged in the fabulous tapas. Our server recommended as wonderful wine. We had teens with us that also enjoyed the food.
Solo reservation. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Never “felt” alone. Good time.
Great food. Tapas and amazing paella. Service outstanding. Best in Bethesda.
AWFUL service. We waited 30 minutes for the waiter to come to our table... another 30 for drinks to come and you can imagine the rest.
Visited Jaleo with a friend and we had not seen each other in a long time. We were so busy talking after we ordered a drink that we were very delayed in ordering any food. After a few attempts, the waiter understood and only returned when we were ready to order. The food was delicious and we enjoyed our opportunity to visit with minimal interruption - almost until closing. Will definitely return.
Great experience with friends
Excellent food and service. All guests really enjoyed the evening.
Great specials and super service
The Food was excellent. Waiter knowledge of the food was so-so, knowledge of the wine list was sub-par. The wines were all Spanish wines - appropriate for a Spanish tapas restaurant, but not a group of wines that I am very familiar with (though I am somewhat familiar with American, French, Italian, and some Australian wines). I found the wait-staff unhelpful and wound up guessing about a Rioja, as I have had some good Riojas in the past. My guess worked out fine, but I don't feel this was because of help from the staff.
We love Jaleo. Took our grandson, who was in town, for a repeat visit.
The joy of eating at this restaurant is in the variety of flavors and excellence in preparation and presentation. I have never found a poor choice, but have found many pleasant surprises. I recommend it most highly if you have guests to entertain. Everyone will leave with pleasant memories.
Service was absolutely horrible and the waiter had an attitude. Surprised restaurant like this can survive in an area like Bethesda. The only saving grace is that the food is very good. The service was atrocious there are many other places that you could go and have an overall better experience.
A visit to Jaleo is always a treat. Spanish tapas served in a delightful dining venue makes for a wonderful family celebration as we had a few days ago. But, as we discovered, not all Jaleo locations are as spot-on as the flagship restaurant in DC. While service at Jaleo Bethesda is friendly and accommodating, and the menu can't be beat for its wide range of selections and memorable bites, what came to our table was just "okay." The food was arranged haphazardly, not placed thoughtfully with the dining experience in mind. For the croquetas, unadorned on a plain white plate, fell short in flavor. Endive spears that were otherwise filled with cheese, fruit and so forth were falling over, their contents falling on the plate. These are just two examples of where the kitchen may have some work to do. Did we have a good time at Jaleo? Of course! Service was exceptional and went above and beyond to make sure that we were well taken care of. But, it's also about the food and its presentation. I hope that Jaleo Bethesda works at delivering the first class dining experience that we've come to expect from this awesome brand.
As welcoming as the food was delicious
Jaleo is our favourite restaurant in Bethesda due to wonderful food and great service. It's one of the few places that all 10 members of the family can find food we love!
Jaleo's is a favorite for us because its varied menu of small plates accommodates all tastes at the table. When dining with a group including vegetarians, carnivores, seafood lovers, etc., the opportunity to being a variety of dishes to the table for sharing covers everyone. The service is friendly and informative. Once the multi-plate order is given, food arrives in waves based on which dishes are ready first. The bar is nice and more than adequate. Be aware that the room is open, tables are fairly close together and noise level can be a problem for those who find it hard to hear in such environments. There are a few more quiet spots in the restaurant. It may pay to request one. This is a very warm, genial spot, good for both lunch and dinner. It's also great fun with a group who like share, sample and compare.
Jaleo did not disappoint. I'd been other locations, but never to Bethesda. The food was excellent, service great and the decor is a lot of fun. I'll definitely be back.
Food is excellent as always, but the prices are too high and they've removed some popular items from the menu, like the lamb chops and salted cod.
Great food and so many choices. Our meal was leisurely and we were able to have a conversation as we enjoyed the food.
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but the last time we were there it was a bit disappointing. The portions on the tapas seem to have gotten smaller and the prices gotten higher. A dish with baby squid was extremely fishy tasty. One is forced to look at television screens over the bar from tables throughout the restaurant. I probably won't go back for a special occasion at least.
Everyone in our family loves Jaleo -- there are an abundance of great tapas to choose from no matter anyone's preferences and dietary restrictions. Fun atmosphere, cool vibe, reasonable prices, and delicious food that changes with the season to ensure everything is as fresh and local as possible. Order a pitcher of sangria and dig in!
Leisurely dinner despite a crowd. Tasty and interesting food, good wine and we weren’t rushed on a Saturday night equals a good choice for a night out.
Very busy on a Saturday night, so if you want attentive service and the ability to refresh your drinks before you're done eating your meal, choose another day of the week.
Vibrant food and fabulous service. Jaleo consistently serves food that is both interesting and excellent. We are fans!
Too pricey for what they offered. I knows its Tapas, but value for what they offered wasnt there. Also, menus were impossibly small and even with my glasses on, difficult to read. So from a business perspective the ROI wasnt there.
Great food. Great service. Great fun. Great Chef and founder, Jose Andres. Great human being.
Reliably great tapas and always a nice treat. But the paella didn't have that yummy crusty crispy layer of rice on the bottom that is the difference between good and mediocre paella. What the heck, Jose?
Food was fabulous! Plenty of variety for vegetarians. Dishes were right sized for sharing by 4 adults.
This restaurant is consistently excellent. The waitstaff is thoughtful and attentive, and the food delicious.
My wife and I ordered the traditional tapas tasting menu, and it was unbelievable. Very full, and fully satisfied at the end. Everything was exceptional, so much so that 3-4 of the plates could have been my favorite. All in all, the best meal I’ve had in years! Highly recommended.
One of my favorite restaurants in the DC area. For those who like things a bit quieter, avoid Saturday nights.
Truffle special was not bad. Red wine very good and tapas great.
Awesome spot. Great tapas, fun design and nice service! 10/10 would recommend.
Jaleo used to be one if my favorite restaurants. Last night the service was slow because the server had too many tables and three parties were seated within minutes of each other, which I knew would make for a long night. Our server was nice but too overwhelmed. It made for a dinner that wasn’t smooth and had a lot of waiting. We knew once she walked away we wouldn’t see her for a long time. I’m surprised at how little the Jaleo menu has changed. It’s the same old, same old. Lastly not a single thing that we were served was warm. Everything was room temp or colder.
I love Jose Andres but I think he needs his people to actually mystery dine in Jaleo Bethesda. I’m sure he wouldn’t be happy.
Maybe my expectations were too high!
My wife wanted Tapas for her birthday dinner, so we went with our sons (17 and 21). She'd been to Jaleo before but we hadn't. In hindsight, we needed to explain Tapas to our children before we went. The server asked if we'd been there before and explained, but they didn't get it. The ordering was haphazard and the server heard only part of what was said. I corrected the one thing she got wrong, when she read it back, but other than the opening items, we got a jumble of items without plan or schedule. She didn't appear again to take additional orders and I just gave up.
We did get a free flan for my Wife's birthday, but the price for everything else more than made up for it. This dinner wasn't worth the cost.
Nice place. But if you forget your reading glasses, it is very difficult to decipher the menu, because the print is tiny, and the ambient light level is low.
Great tapas experience! Service was exceptional! Thank you.
Amazing food and an amazing time. Cannot complain one bit
