Jaleo - Bethesda

Not as nice as DC location
Quick dinner prior to leaving town after a meeting. Food was outstanding. Highlights were the liquid olive and the olive oil ice cream with grapefruit (yes I like olives). Impressive longevity for this restaurant. This would be one of the best restos in Nashville.
The wait staff saw we had two little boys in our group and offered the food all table. Super thoughtful wait staff!
We were seated in an alcove with a round table, perfect! Everyone was delighted with the food and our waiter was excellent. We were each welcomed graciously at reception.
Would have said perfect but for tad high music volume. Maybe next time??
We loved it, service was fabulous, only complaint is courses came way too quickly.
Can't wait to return again with a large appetite to try more dishes.
There was no server available. We waited 15-20 minutes just to get water. I kept asking the hostess and other servers to send someone to our table.
I love Jose Andres. I love tapas (we are of Spanish ancestry). Jaleo has decent tapas and a very nice Bethesda restaurant. However, there were 5 of us and we spent $390 with tax and tip. This did not include desserts or coffee. The food was not outstanding . . . for the price you pay for it, it should be.
So, I've debated whether the answer to the question "Would you recommend Jaleo - Bethesda to a friend?" should be. I had to choose between yes and no, and chose the latter. I wish I could have qualified it with "maybe--if you are willing to pay a lot of money for just OK food".
I’ve eaten in other Jaleo locations and this was not up to par. The manager and staff were kind and attentive in giving us a complimentary beverage for our occasion.
But the meal then started coming at a very fast pace. We had no sooner taken a bite of one dish then another arrived - unusual and unnecessary in a tapas place. The staff was also super concerned with removing plates, even if were not finished with a dish.
It could have been a nicer experience with slightly slower pacing, which we even asked for. Also, while I have previous had food I’d considered “memorable” the meal was competent but not special.
Excellent service and ingredients well specified
The restaurant is just a special place. Everything we tried on the special lunch menu was unique: attractively plated and well-seasoned. The standouts were a strawberry-watermelon gazpacho and a chicken dish in a green sauce, though I’d definitely order the fried potatoes again, too. And the flan was perfection. To add to the experience, we could carry on a conversation without raising our voices at all.
Jaleo is our favorite but was disappointed w the paella - very very salty and wet. Didn’t impress our guests and us. Disappointed
Good restaurant but air conditioning wasn’t working properly.
Amazing tapas and drinks!! Definitely pricey!
Cool restaurant in a bustling, vibrant part of downtown Bethesda. Menu was a little overwhelming for first timers, but our server was very helpful and made excellent suggestions.
We went on a Saturday night and it happened to be during their 10-11 happy hour. Great deal on sangria and tapas. Love the croquetas. Service was great! We loved it.
Consistently good, fresh dishes, well-prepared and served in a comfortable, al fresco setting. Service is always cordial, attentive, top-notch. Dishes are fairly-priced, especially the paella. Overall, Jose Andres' is doing good, admirable things -- in this restaurant, and on the national and world stages!
Everything was terrific, but the place, when full, is very noisy.
Omg-awesome! Everything we ate and drank was out of this world flavorful?
At the beginning the service felt a bit rushed. Pacing of the dishes could have been better.
Food is delicious, but very pricey. Service on this occasion was a bit indifferent.
Not the atmosphere of Jaleo DC. Tapas were good but not fab. However, Tempranillo wine, delicious. We had the place to ourselves because it was early. Staff were nice, but waiter was not familiar with Rioja, a Spanish staple.
Wonderful food, as always! I appreciate Jaleo and Jose Andres
We love Jaleo for its reliably well prepared and interesting takes on Spanish tapas. The wait staff are helpful without being intrusive. Our favorite dishes are the spinach with pine nuts and the best fried calamari anywhere (including in Spain).
Two veterans, four first-timers we were thrilled to have experience Jaleo. Once again, as always, the food was spectacular and delicious, and the wait staff made us feel appreciated: not the overly-friendly version, but truly as though they were glad to have us their. Thanks, Chef Andrés, for all the good you do for us and for the world!
The food dishes were diverse and interesting. But be prepared to have dishes dropped on your table and not much else.
Liked the mushrooms dish, otherwise - the food was just okay, the service pretty good, but the value is too poor for us to come back.
I enjoyed an early dinner before the movies at Jaleo Bethesda. We ate outside in the shade. I have had many meals here but there is always something new to try and we did so on Saturday. The octopus was great, the sauvignon blanc was refreshing and two glasses disappeared quickly. My friend enjoyed the imaginative gin cocktail. Sunday night I ate at the Jaleo on 7th street with 3 friends and we shared the paella, one of the paella festival dishes. Again, friends enjoyed some imaginative gin cocktails. So, you can tell I love Jaleo.
Fabulous as always Couldn't have chosen a better place to take visitors
As usual, I loved dining at Jaleo’s and so did my friend! Excellent menu. My only suggestion is to change the menu occasionally. Last but not least I go there because of the owner, Jose, and his activism for others. Thank you!
Jaleo was a unique experience for us in the States. We have had tapas in Spain, but never in the US. There were so many dishes to consider, it was difficult deciding. Those we selected were tasty and met or exceeded our expectations. The half carafe of their classic sangria was so-so. The flan for desert was exceptional. This is definitely a place to experience. The service was superb and the wait time for the dishes was only a few moments.
The food is always great and the service we received was exceptional.
I'm usually afraid I'll leave hungry when I consider tapas. That is certainly not the case at Jaleo. The food is tasty and well-prepared and, ordered correctly, plentiful. Our server, Sarah, was wonderful and knowledgeable about the extensive menu. The coquettes (fish and chicken) are amazing - in fact, I didn't have anything I didn't like and a couple we ordered twice. It's not a cheap date - with small plates ranging from $4-$18 (median seems to be $8) each and a recommendation of two to three plates per person, it can add up. Worth it? Absolutely.
The restaurant is stylish and quite comfortable and centrally located near Bethesda Row. Noise level is modest - we had to lean in when it got very busy, but not as bad as some of the newer places that seem to be all hard surfaces.
A great dining experience all around. Easy to recommend for a gathering of friends or a special occasion.
Always consistently great.
We had a good time because we were with friends that we hadn't seen in a long time. However, both my wife and I were disappointed in the food. We had about 7 or 8 different tapas dishes, but only a few of them were really good. Most were meh.
Jaleo provided an outstanding meal overall and a great value for the quality of what was served. There were 4 of us and we tried 10 dishes with Cono de Mermelada de Tomate y Queso de Cabra (tomato and goat cheese) and the Pato a la Plancha con Setas (seared duck breast) being standouts. We will probably pass on the Puntillitas de Cádiz Salteadas con Pochas (baby squid with beans) and the Pisto Manchego con Huevos (quail eggs on stewed vegetables). The squid was a bit rubbery and the quail egg dish was oversized for how rich the dish was. Cocktails and wines were winners across the board.
Excellent selection of tapas and energized atmosphere.
We decided to go to Jaleo for a girls night out. It was a great experience and we took advantage of our server’s knowledge when choosing items from the vast menu options. We totally enjoyed each item brought to us, and found the paring of flavors on each plate exceptional.
We ate outside on the Jaleo terrace . We enjoy dining there as it is relatively quiet . The food , wine and service was excellent . We highly recommend Jaleo Bethesda .
