This is our third time there and I really want to like it but every time there is something that just isn’t right. We have always had to wait significantly past our reservation time, over 30 mins this time. We were seated in a side room off the main dining room where the lighting was terrible.
Not a fan of the sides choices, they are salad OR two sides, the sides are 4 types of potato or wild rice, or vegetables for an up charge. I had 4 pieces of asparagus for $3.90......
Excellent food. Sat us in the bar area which isnt bad. A little noisy being very close to the next table. Food was excellent. I had the pork chop. It was done perfectly. My wife had the walleye which was excellent.
Birthday no effort was made to recognize this fact just not as good as previous visits- shame really.
It's been six years since my last visit so thought I would revisit and I was not disappointed. The food was exceptional. I had the surf & turf. The filet was cooked the perfect medium, very tender and the scallops - perfectly cooked. I will be returning to sample other entrees soon.
Our local favorite ... always as good as we expect.
Everything was great but they were out of New York Strip and the marrow bone appetizer which we were looking forward to order
The filet and burger at Jake’s was incredible! We will definitely be returning
Great steak and great service! Every time we go has been a wonderful experience.
The waitress was horrible. We asked for a 2013 bottle of red wine. She brought us a 2016 and when I pointed it out she said they would’ve tasted the same and not to worry about it. Later she kept coming back to the table asking if she offended us but in a way that made us feel that we did something wrong. Whole experience was bad. Food just ok as well.
We had a great dinner celebrating my birthday!
We had a 7:15 reservation and we got seated about 8pm and then ordered our food at 8:15. We were able to get a seat at the bar and have a drink, which isn’t always the case. Food was excellent. Other than ordering our food 1 hour after our reservation, all was good.
Jakes is always great. My wife and I have visited often in the past year and the food and service is always outstanding.
Waitress was very good. Cocktails were decent but the food was the star! Really great menu and steaks were cooked perfectly. We will be back.
We had a great experience at Jake for our Valentines dinner.
Very good food and great service.
I always drive from LaCrosse, Wi to take my mom out for her birthday. I always chose Jake's because the food and service is amazing. This has been a tradition for about 5 years now. Looking forward to next year's dinner....she will then be 84. She still rocks! :)
Monday night steak special was as good as always. Onion rings were fantastic. Disappointed in the stingy short pours of $15 a glass wine.
This was our first visit to Jake's Restaurant and we were very pleased with the entire experience. We were celebrating my birthday and brought along my 17 year old granddaughter. We were seated in front of the fireplace and our server was wonderful. She was so attentive and made great suggestions on the menu offerings. The food was great, better than some of the higher end restaurants we have been to in the past that were comparable to ambiance, menu and pricing.
We went there for a 7:15 reservation and got there at 6:45 to grab drinks beforehand. We didn't get our table until almost 8pm and didn't get our food until 9:45pm. Our food was pretty cold when we got it too, and some of it seemed overcooked. Probably won't go back unfortunately.
We are moving to the area next summer and we were told about Jake’s so we tried it out last Saturday. Our steaks were tender and delicious! We’ll be back again - soon!
The food is fabulous and the Brussels sprouts are to die for!
We enjoyed our dining experience at Jakes. We liked the pace of the meal and the food was delicious.
We have been long-time fans of dining at Jake’s. But this will likely be our last visit until we see some things change.
For the first time, our service was poor. It took forever to get an initial round of drinks, and then we felt rushed for the rest of our evening. Our server was clearing plates and asking about dessert while one person in our party was still eating their entree! Wow. Pretty basic stuff here; some training is in order. I trust this will be the exception here. Previous service has always been really great.
While the food was good, it was NOT good enough to justify the super expensive bill we received at the end of our meal. And the bar has grown quite stingy on the drink sizes. If I pay $14 for a Manhattan, it should be both tasty and generous. If I pay $11 for a glass of wine, it should not be a meager few-ounce pour. Let’s be clear - the food that arrived at our table was good, so you will likely not be disappointed in how things taste. And the drinks were also tasty, but small and expensive. The sticker shock at the end of the meal will hit you, unless you are on an expense report for business.
Summary: Extremely expensive restaurant with dependably good food but drinks on the small side.
Might try it again in a couple years. We’ll see.
We had not been to Jake's in several years and the food did not disappoint. Everything was great. The group I was with, as a whole, thought the included sides were a bit "potato heavy" and a few would have liked to see a salad and 1 side option.
My husband and I always find different places to eat when we are out of town. I will say Jakes did not disappoint!!! The food and service were great. Think I might have found my favorite steak house.
Some leaving for college dinner his first time to Jake’s and he enjoyed every minute!
Very welcoming environment with tasty cocktails and great food! Will go again.
It's our favorite restaurant. The meals are always delicious. This time we met a new server, Chelsea, and she was awesome.
Always a great night when coming in to Jakes! The food is excellent and so is the service!
Went with a party of 6, everything was great and our waitress was very helpful and caring.
Great Monday night steak special
We had a 5pm reservation so it wasn't that busy or noisy. Food was very good. Ordered the Brussel sprouts which were good but added lime to them which makes them great! Service was adequate, although for whatever reason wasn't ever asked if I wanted another cocktail, so I just drank my water. Over all Jake's is a very consistently good restaurant and good value for the service & food. I'll be back, keep up the good work!
Kind of dark and heat fluctuations were a lot. Food was pretty good.
Based on this (our first) experience, Jake's is a rustic, cozy yet classy establishment. It was a nice, appropriately romantic setting for the Mrs' birthday dinner. We got a seat next to the fireplace, which we enjoyed, although they did seem to struggle to keep it regulated a bit (possibly in part because of how busy they were that night). The meal kicked off with our wine (I had a glass of the syrah, which was OK, just slightly harsh; the Mrs. had a sauvignon blanc, I believe, which she said she liked even though she tends toward the sweeter stuff) and bread (a nicely crusty, somewhat chewy white bread). Our (shared) entree was the large porterhouse for 2, peppercorn crusted. We asked for it medium+, and it was quite flavorful but in my opinion slightly over overall, though not entirely uniform. Still, the quality and flavor of the meat were evident. As our sides: Brussels sprouts (halved, crispy exterior, a safe if not super inspired choice), creamed spinach (probably the best we've had - balanced flavor, super smooth texture), twice baked potato (pleasant sour cream type tang and for once, not overcooked!), mac and cheese [also good tang and smooth texture, maybe could use a bit (more?) of sharp cheddar]. Attentive, friendly, helpful service. I would consider returning. I am interested in the entire menu.
Jake’s was recommended to us by a family member but we would not recommend the kids burger or the fish special on a Monday. The fish was a New Zealand salmon and it was fishy and tasted old—definitely not worth $35 as a special. The kids burger tasted rancid but smelled okay so it must have been a weird seasoning combo they used. Our server was fantastic. So were the oysters!
Their Monday night steak special is always well done both in terms of the quality of the food and cost. We were celebrating a 65th birthday and were able to add an appetizer and still keep the bill around $120 with tip. I would recommend Jake's to any one who wants quality dishes prepared well and served be a great waitstaff.
The prices are too high, the dining room is too loud and we won't be returning.
Great dinner where the food and service were outstanding, thank you!
