We were so happy to find a quiet restaurant with a great choice of entrees not limited to burgers and pasta in our neighborhood.
14 yr anniversary
As usual, the food and service was impeccable. While a bit pricey, it is still an enjoyable evening.
Last night the noise level was definitely a problem; it was difficult to hold a conversation in normal voices at the table. Not sure why, but this seems to be typical of good steak restaurants.
Jake's has been consistently excellent. Three of us were very pleased with everything. Our steaks were absolutely excellently prepared. The short ribs was delicious. Creamed spinach was just as delicious as on 1974 on north & 60th. Wonderful place to take company from out of town. Yes we will return.
Dinner and food were all fantastic. In particular I had the 8oz filet which was excellent. We bring customers there and it is always a hit. You have to order the cheese curds for our out of town guests!
Excellent service from Hannah. A few customers were poorly dressed but good to see a crowd.
Food was great as usual. Drinks are a bit on the high side. 14 for an old fashioned. Servers were very polite and food came out fairly quickly!
After having not been to Jake's for literally decades, we were prepared for an experience similar to that which we had years ago. Not so much. Not even close. Drinks at the bar were very short pours...martinis were a half inch below the rim. Mentioned it to the bartender and gave him a second chance. Same result. Fail. We were seated a full 30 minutes after our reservation time. Food flavor was passable at best. Presentation was dismal...entrees sat on the plates lonely with not so much as a sprig of parsley for company. The wine list for what is considered to be a Steakhouse was thin. We realize there is a decent markup for wine, however, the Federalist Cabernet Lodi was a fat $58/bottle. Same bottle can be had locally for ~$14. With so many amazing restaurants from which to choose, clearly the experience left us with no other decision but to not visit again.
They were very shorthanded but hustled and did a great job trying to keep up. The duck wasn’t the greatest but the filet we awesome!
We will be back
Overall disappointment! They onion rings weren’t seasoned. The portion of cocktails was small for the cost and taste. The waitstaff had too many tables and forgot to serve the oysters appetizer which seemed gritty. They seemed to be trying so hard to service the customers but didn’t have enough help. The dinner was overpriced for this type of food and service. Definitely not the Jake’s I used to know.
This was our first time and we were not disappointed. It’s a little too expensive for us to dine here often, but we will be back for special occasions.
Jakes was very nice, and Amy took very good care of us.
Our server Jacki was knowledgeable, fun & very efficient!
We had a great meal and enjoyable experience.
We are never disappointed at Jake’s Restaurant. Excellent food, great service from the minute we walk in the door. It’s an upscale restaurant without a stuffy feel. I highly recommend!
Food was great. Server was excellent. Fairly casual dining experience with respect to the price point.
The food was very good and was reasonably priced. The overall service left much to be desired. There were long periods of time between each course from salads/soup to the entrees being brought to the table.
BEST Steak/Service/Ambiance around!!!5 Stars ALL across the board.
We've been going to Jake's for years, great service and excellent food as usual!
Food was just so so ...bone in rib-eye is usually much better than it was , my filet was good ...2 of 4 steaks not cooked properly. Our waitress was very nice and we had good service.
Post Covid back to life as we knew it celebration for 2 couples. Well prepared steaks, appetizers, etc show that Jakes has lost nothing over the years. Service was great and very well paced. All food, especially the steaks were done perfectly. Onion soup, onion “strings”, fried cheese curds, creamed spinach and twice baked potatoes were all top notch. Deserts were great, too.
Jakes has always had a great wine list as the owners selected their own wine choices in their travels and had them brought to the restaurant. Selections during this visit were excellent but really weighted to higher priced varietals. I would have appreciated a few selections in the $30-50 range.
I would definitely recommend Jakes for special occasions and even every-day fine dining.
Food was amazing and loved the atmosphere.
Had the fish fry which was very good. Our server did a good job except we had to remind her twice to bring our additional drink orders. Maybe she was over loaded because of not being able to hire sufficient wait staff.
Always great food snd service.
Went to Jake's on 5/13/21 for business dinner with out of town guests. Our table was ready when we arrived, our waitress greeted us immediately and we were served at a good pace throughout the evening.
The food was delicious!
A beautiful evening. We sat right in front of the natural fireplace and enjoyed a great meal. I had the trio filet with three of their specialty toppings yummy.
Fabulous experience. Will be back
Overall experience was good.
Arrived 25 minutes before our 7:00 reservation only to wait 20+ minutes at the bar for cocktails. Bar understaffed with one bartender for the entire restaurant and customers being served drinks and dinner at the bar as well.
Finally attended to by a wonderful waitress at 7:30 to get our group seated at a table also in the bar area vs. dining room.
Recommend additional staffing to properly serve the demand.
Overall it was good but we have had better experiences with Jake’s. Our food order took a long time to receive. Even after being told it was coming it was still at least another 20 min. Additionally the onion string and French fry sides were room temp not hot which was disappointing but we didn’t sY anything because we already waited so long for our meals to come.
We had a reservation for 7:30 and got sat down at 8:30. All 4 of our steaks were undercooked, however we powered through it because it was 9:30 and we desperate to eat. Disappointing for one of our favorite places. Apparently they are down staff. Those that were there were working hard and are great.
Arrived at 6:55 for a 7:00 reservation. We were reminded through several different avenues that we MUST be on time as our table would only be held for 5 minutes past reservation time. Checking-in we were told they were running "behind", and we would have to wait up to 30 minutes. The actual wait was 45 minutes, and then we waited another 15 minutes before our server made first contact with us. Otherwise, the meal was good, not great. One of our steaks was rather tough. Hard to recommend based on this experience, the food was average for a higher priced restaurant.
The food and service was exceptional. Love the feel of an "old style" Wisconsin supper club.
For the past 25 years, Jake's has always been my go-to for great food & dining close to home. Over that time I feel a few items have been contant reminders not only my patronage but a continued measure of quality. The haystack onion rings are an absolute classic & are always excellent & secondly is the peppercorn filet with bernaise. I have always been pleased with everything but something was different with my recent visit. The usual customary warm bread appetizer was void, the bernaise was very much like melted butter & any great steak should be allowed to sit for a small period of time as opposed to being served strait from the oven. Minor issues with the advent of the coronavirus & considering the high quality I've always experienced, I will definitely go again before rendering any further opinions.
It was just ok. The halibut was dry and the cinnamon butter for the sweet potato tasted like chemicals. The waitress was good.
First time eating at this restaurant. The food, service and ambiance was great. We did not feel rushed - there was ample time given between each course.
Our waitress was not that friendly...took almost a half hour between drinks...my steak was cold ...the onion rings were fabulous as always...
Service and food excellent. Nice fireplace with real wood burning. Ribeye Steak and Walleye excellent, and bacon/waterchestnut appetizer with honey glaze was great with cocktails. Waitress was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, and a good sense of humor. Prices are a touch high but good experience overall.
Other than having to wait almost an hour past our reservation time, the food was fantastic. For a restaurant that requires you to be on time or pay a fee and lose your reservation, it’s upsetting to have to wait an hour past reservation time.
Amazing as always!!!
Finally got to sit in a restaurant after a very long year. Reservations were running late - think everyone was enjoying being out and in no hurry! Service was great, food very good. There appeared to be fewer tables and I rather preferred the more relaxed atmosphere afforded by the spacing. Always seemed a bit frenetic and crammed in before, difficult for the wait staff to move around. Very nice evening.
