Jake's Grill - Portland Ratings and Reviews
We had not been to Jake’s with our family in the past - only one previous time for a business dinner with 20 people. The food was not prepared to our order nor was the food all that great! We had a Wagu steak that was tasty - but again not prepared to order specifications. We shared an order or Mack n Cheese that was COLD and bland, the crispy onions on the Mack n Cheese was the tastiest part of the dish. One of our guests order his Burger Rare and it was well done. The other guest had the Meat Load dinner- she liked it, her favorite part... The Mashed Potatoes.
I only had a Wedge Salad-which I enjoyed.
Our waitress was HORRIBLE! The slowest service I have encountered in years- no personality, forgot our drinks - and never checked back to see if wanted another drink!
I was sooooo disappointed for a bill that was over $150.00!
My wife and I have eaten at many a fine restaurant and this one let us down. The halibut my wife ordered was overcooked and tough and when she tried to remark about this to the waiter he turned and walked away. My filet mignon was very tasty, but the bearnaise sauce was a very small portion even for the tiny steak. The amount of lobster was excellent, but did not make up for the paltry sense of what should have been a special meal for the prices charged. We expected fine dining and we got chain restaurant quality.
I have always been impressed with Jake's food. This time was no different. My one complaint was that our waitress seemed pretty rude throughout the entire dinner. She was upset because she was so busy and was having trouble keeping up with everything. She talked to the entire table but ignored me the entire time. When I tried to order, she made it seem like I was interrupting her. I asked for a refill of water at the beginning of the meal and it took over 15 minutes for her to fill it. She came by one time and filled everyone's water at the table but mine. Even the other people at the table were commenting about how she must have had something against me. Other than the waitress, it was an overall good experience
Jake's was as Jake's is. Always a great evening. We went for Thanksgiving dinner as there was just the 2 of us this year, and it was a fantastic meal. The food was so, so good, and the service was exceptional.
Jake's is quickly becoming our regular spot for when there is just the 2 of us.
My wife and I enjoyed Jake's Grill for Thanksgiving this year. We had a delightful man, Tony, that took care of us for the evening. First, thank you to Tony and all of the staff at Jake's for giving up your Thanksgiving with friends and family to make our Thanksgiving memorable, second, amazing food, atmosphere and service!! This is not a place to go if you only want to spend a few dollars but I guarantee that you will get your money's worth!! The food was not only a feast for your palate but for your eyes as well. The chef and staff as well as the wait staff made this a meal to never forget. Thank you again Tony and fellow coworkers for an awesome evening!! Y'all rock!!
We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with a couple of small drawbacks. The crab/lobster "dip" was greasy and fishy tasting. The filet mignons we ordered were very small and a little over cooked. Not enough to send back but they were not medium rare. More to the medium side. They were very good, however. We had excellent service. Our server could not have provided any better service. We love Jakes Grille and will return because it is one of our favorite places.
Great atmosphere! Sat at bar, where Chad, Parrish & Co. were attentive & fun; all staff were welcoming & pleasant, seeming to genuinely enjoy their jobs on a busy Thanksgiving day. Food was timely, and tasty, tho we were given prime rib instead of the ordered NY strip. PM was a bit overdone, not med. rare as
This is the third time we have celebrated Thanksgiving @ Jake's. VERY disappointed. The portions were smaller and the price has gone up, appreciably. We told them we were celebrating Mother/Daughter birthdays - this was ignored. We will find another place for
Thanksgiving next year.
Consistently great food and service. We try lots of places but we always come back to Jakes Grill. Wait staff I are very professional. We have enjoyed dinner here over 20 times, never disappointed and always a pleasure.
Best fresh oysters in town. Steaks perfect.
Jake's Grill is a restaurant I will return to often. I love the lack of large-screen TVs (there is a small one in the bar, but it's small and can be easily ignored). I also like the relatively quiet atmosphere. I have finally found a downtown Portland restaurant where I can have a conversation with a friend without having to shout to overcome the loud music. If there is music, it is not loud. And the food--well, I will certainly try the Blue Plate Special next time I have lunch at Jake's. One of my table mates ordered it yesterday, and he raved about it. My other friend enjoyed a bowl of French Onion Soup, and I found my Wedge Salad perfect. Oh, and the butterscotch pudding--wow! Jake's at lunch is all around wonderful.
The service was very slow at first because the waitress didn’t realize we were there. Once we were waited on she quickly made up for it and everything was great. She even comped is with a lava cake for desert to make up for the mistake. I will definitely go back again.
