Jake's Grill - Portland Ratings and Reviews
Jake's Grill is a restaurant I will return to often. I love the lack of large-screen TVs (there is a small one in the bar, but it's small and can be easily ignored). I also like the relatively quiet atmosphere. I have finally found a downtown Portland restaurant where I can have a conversation with a friend without having to shout to overcome the loud music. If there is music, it is not loud. And the food--well, I will certainly try the Blue Plate Special next time I have lunch at Jake's. One of my table mates ordered it yesterday, and he raved about it. My other friend enjoyed a bowl of French Onion Soup, and I found my Wedge Salad perfect. Oh, and the butterscotch pudding--wow! Jake's at lunch is all around wonderful.
The service was very slow at first because the waitress didn’t realize we were there. Once we were waited on she quickly made up for it and everything was great. She even comped is with a lava cake for desert to make up for the mistake. I will definitely go back again.
Jake's Grille is our number one go-to restaurant after a movie downtown. The space is one of our favorite, harking back to an earlier period in Portland. Service is consistenly top notch and the Martini's are the best in town. Food is always very good and my Steelhead on a Cedar Plank was exceptional. Can't wait to return.
Always a great meal; however, wine glass used was inappropriate for wine ordered. I will never buy a Pinot Noir bottle there again as it suffers in wrong glass. Not worth the price of the bottle to be ruined by the glass in a State known for it’s Pinot Noir.
I have been here several times for breakfast, and I come back because the place is quiet and close to my hotel.
The food is pretty good but not fast and the service staff is really nice, on the whole, but slow. Not sure if that is just their "thing" or if it is a management issue. You may have to flag someone down if you need a refill of coffee etc.
We decided to go to Jake's Grill because it is part of the McCormick and Schmick's restaurant chain and we were not disappointed! Jake's does not have a "chain" feel though. They have unique meals and their drinks are amazing! For lunch or dinner, special night or not, go to Jake's. You will love it!!
I went to Jake's for dinner and ordered the 6 oz filet medium. The quality of the steak was poor. First of all, the filet, a cut noted for tenderness, was very tough because it was cooked to beyond well done. I didn't have time to send it back, otherwise I would have. The 6 oz filet at Jake's is very thin and this can only reasonably cooked to rare or well done. The finished product certainly looked to be no more than 4oz. Overall it was a terrible value food wise. On the service side, things were good but not exceptional. Nothing to complain about, but nothing remarkable either. Bottom line, skip the filet, it's terrible.
The food was great, although some things were extremely overpriced. $16 for a tablespoon or two of dungeness crab with bearnaise sauce, and the sauce was far too overpowered by tarragon. Pieces of shell in the crab made it impossible to enjoy. Not worth the price tag.
The thing that was most disappointing was the simplest part of the meal. We were only given the option to buy a bottle of water; sparkling or flat. As if there were no other choice. "We offer bottled water, sparkling or flat. Which would you prefer?" Only until we saw every other table receiving regular water from a pitcher did we understand we got duped. On an etiquette note; the bottle was brought out opened. For all I know, it was just filled with tap water in the back.
The waitress disappeared for long periods of time during which we were practically looking for her and simple drink refills has to be requested.
The food tasted great (worth the 45 minute wait between ordering and receiving) and the desserts are amazing.
Just be aware of what you're spending your money on.
