My in-laws took us out for our 6th wedding anniversary. We had a lovely time, good food, good company.
We had an Excellent server. And a good window place than earlier asked for.
Front host took good care of us. Thank you.
Good food, GREAT service! I made a last minute reservation for my 3 year wedding anniversary here, mentioning our anniversary to them. We arrived early to a very nice concierge that had custom made menus made for us!!! They seated us immediately at a larger window table, the waiter came over and was extremely polite and helpful with the menus! This excellent service continued throughout the evening and before getting our check they had rolled up our custom menus that read “Happy anniversary Chris and Kourtney” tied with a bow! Everything about our experience here was excellent leaving us with a memorable 3 year anniversary!! My wife and I will definitely be coming back!
Such a wonderful experience. The staff were all so attentive and the food was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flow of things coming out from the kitchen was also perfect. So we never felt rushed and could really enjoy every bite of our wonderful meal. I love the location of Jakes as well. You don't have to fight for parking spots in that section of town so you can really get the downtown experience without ridiculous crowds, even on a Friday night.
I recently went here for my 21st birthday, and it was good. Except my boyfriend and I got medium rare steaks, and when we received them they looked well done. It did take a while for the food to come out, but besides that it was okay!
We were a family party of 5 out to dinner for a special occasion. The ambiance, service, and food at Jake's Grill were all excellent! Our party ordered entrees of steak, halibut, pork, and fried chicken, and all of them were well flavored and delicious. We'll definitely return to Jake's Grill.
We go to Jakes every few years for a dose of elegant old Portland. The food was excellent, with one small glitch -- my wife's filet mignon was not medium rare as she had requested -- more like medium/medium well. Our server quickly put in an order for a new steak and within a few minutes the manager appeared with a whole new plate and a perfectly broiled filet. A very positive dining experience.
Prime rib was just okay. Stuffed salmon was well liked as well as the Dungeness crab cocktail. Absolutely love the non alcoholic drink menu especially the blueberry Palmer and spiced raspberry drink.
Great food. Our big group really worked our server Anthony. He did a great job and we all loved our meals.
Their steaks are consistently good - tender and very flavorful. Our server was wonderful. There was a bit of a wait for our cocktails but they were very good with generous proportions.
Everything was delicious and the service was great. The Kentucky Smash cocktail was amazing. We chose to sit outside (we were the only ones) and the server was very pleasant. Didn't act as if it was an imposition at all, even though she was working in the bar. Our food arrived timely and hot. If I ever return to Portland, I will definitely be returning to Jake's Grill.
Jake's Grill is our go to for classic dining. Excellent upscale comfort foot perfect for a special occasion or just a night out. The staff is always accommodating and friendly. The atmosphere makes you feel as if you stepped into timeless elegance.
Great restaurant with an excellent menu, service, and ambiance. It was also convenient since we stayed in the Sentinel Hotel.
four of us celebrating a 38th wedding anniversary where I was best man. Server, Mary Ann, warmed up to us and provided pleasant and professional service, with complimentary dessert to celebrate. Food was terrific, anniversary couple thought it was the best meal ever.
Average food and subpar service
Nothing special just ok
Found this restaurant not far from our hotel and made last minute reservations. We were greeted and sat quickly at a very nice window seat. It is a large restaurant but looked like they were using just one side of it as it was early and on a Thursday evening. Our waiter, although not overly friendly, was good at what he did. The food was presented well and had very nice flavors. I had the Ahi tuna which was very good. They said it would be hot spicy with an 8 out of 10 but I found it slightly spicy and not spicy hot. Preferred it that way so I could enjoy the flavor of the tuna. My wife had a steak which was perfectly cooked. She ordered the butterscotch pudding which she said was very good and worth the calories. Highly recommend trying this restaurant!
Going to a play
The waitress really seemed to know the menu and answered many questions regarding the food. The service was excellent. Since we live in a desert area, we were anxious to find good seafood when we got to Portland. We were not at all disappointed. Interesting menu with something for everyone.
Great people watching from window seats. Comfy bar spots to watch a game on big screens. Saturday evening date night. Started with some seasonal cocktails. I had a cucumber Aria gin, lime, Very refreshing and love the local gin. My husband chose a classic old fashion, made just right. For dinner I ordered the crab/shrimp stuffed salmon served with broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes. I would rank this meal a 10, perfect amount of food, rich, tasty, crowd favorite. My husband went to Manhattan filet oscar which was over cooked, but still nice presentation and portion.
First time. Tony was our servers and he was everything. Y’all would be so lucky to have him.
Shirley was an incredible server! Everything was excellently prepared and delicious! Will certainly dine at Jakes again on my next trip to Portland!
We celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary this past Friday night. Jakes was a favorite our our when we were dating for both dinner and especially for desert and and coffee after a show at the Armory (PCS). The Hawaiian Swordfish was amazing as well as the clam chowder.
I would also like to especially thank our Waiter, Robert. He made the night extra special with attention to detail from recommendations of the Chefs specials to the pairing of wines. He was very involved in making sure everything tasted and looked right and that we left happy. He even brought us a little chocolate cake and ice cream and candles after dinner to help make the meal and evening even more memorable. Ask for him when you go, he is awesome!
Our only complaint is the marionberry pie is gone BUT they more than made up for it with the mixed berry crisp.
The decor is very dark and romantic and will remind you of how the 'well to do's' dined during the early parts of the 20th Century.
Finally, the resteraunt is only a block down from the 10th and Galleria MAX stop so leave the car at home and enjoy a hassle free dinner or even a staycation at the Sentinel Hotel which houses Jakes. You won't be dissapointed.
Our server was great! She made our anniversary dinner special.
The “salad” was lightly tossed in dressing, but was only lettuce leafs, no other veggies. They brought bread, but only 2 pieces, warmed up, but hard.
We both had prime rib, which was good. Lacked a little flavor, but it was good.
Brought us a dessert, which was nice and unexpected.
We asked to be sat in a quite romantic area. They sat everyone in their lounge. The actual dining room was completely empty. This is where we were hoping to be sat. The lounge was loud, had TV’s on, people drinking at the bar and having a good time. Great for their business - not so great for our romantic anniversary dinner.
We did enjoy ourselves. The food and service were good. Just wish we hadn’t been in the lounge.
This place is awesome. Was visiting my son in Portland . We have had dinner there in the past and loved it. We had lunch there and then brunch the next day. Delicious high quality food. Great service and comfortable beautiful atmosphere. Wish this restaurant was in Phoenix too!steelhead trout is amazing (and so are the pancakes!).
I enjoyed a terrific lunch at Jake's Grill, catching up with some old friends from out of town. Great menu variety, very nice dining room, and excellent service. I recommend this spot for any occasion where a nice lunch in a great location is called for.
This is a great place for a meeting or private get together. Great food options!
Very bad food. Steak was cold.
Service was excellent. Most of the food was very good but steak was over cooked and salad was not prepared per description. Waiter was attentive
Overall, good, but the wrong deserts came out which was a disappointing end to the meal. Food and cocktails were good, and overall experience was good.
I just wasn’t impressed. I’ve been in Portland for a few years and have been told to eat there. I planned on being there for an hour and a half to enjoy all the food and drink options. But my wife and I wound up staying around 30 minutes then getting the rest of our food at a different restaurant.
Server didn’t know what was on the menu.
The alcohol drink I got tasted awful, got it remade twice.
Very little gluten free options
The appetizers were so so small for such a big price and weren’t that great.
Then heard our server telling other people about our “difficult order”. I only asked for gluten free. So I guess thanks for making my medical issue “difficult”.
Just wasn’t good.
Steak was melt in your mouth but mine was under cooked which was ok, still tasted good. Didn't need any sauce which was awesome. A bit pricey for the small portions. (picture is too big to download to show the food) Our waitress was very nice but towards the end I think she forgot about us.
The waitstaff here was cold and definitely not very friendly. On being seated a bus person literally stuck her armpit into my face not once, but twice, and then spent the rest of the evening scowling at our table.
Our server was short and to the point. We never heard a word about the menu, bar or food. She warmed up a bit when we told her why we there, and she maintained a friendly attitude once that was established.
The food here is not awesome. The atmosphere is reasonable. The bar menu is a waste of time. This is a great downtown spot to go after work if you’re looking for a B+ steak. This is not a good place to take your family on a night out.
Jake’s is old and tired. We could have done better. Not likely to return.
Food was fine; service was about as slow as I’ve ever experienced.
Jake's Grill is great. I count on it when entertaining out of town guests.
Your crab cakes are one of the best.
No need to go all the way to the coast to get good quality!
We are looking forward to a wide variety at our wedding @ The Sentinel this weekend.
The food was great and Tony the waiter wonderful.
Great old school steak and seafood house. I go there a few times a year and enjoy the bar and the restaurant. Took family there for Father’s Day this year and the service, seafood and appetizers were all great. The only thing was that the prime rib wasn’t stellar—it was rather luke warm. Ambience as always was classic and great.
Great Steak, Prime Rib. Bison, etc. Good services!! Best in Portland for sure
Fantastic dinner at Jake’s! We brought our 4-year-old, which is always an uneasy thing to do in a nice restaurant. Our server was incredibly kind and even specially arranged for him to get a fruit plate instead of French fries (not normally an option).
The steak was perfection, lobster delicious, and dessert topped it all off superbly. We will be back soon!
Two guests had burgers and seemed to enjoy. I had scallops and disappointed. I don’t mind paying more for an excellent meal, but I will probably not go back
