Jake's Grill - Portland
Book your next event with us
We hadn’t been to Jake’s Grill in a few years. We went to celebrate my birthday last week, and it was wonderful. The food was delicious- a great beat salad, Filet Oscar, and a graham cracker crepe brûlée Napoleon that was amazing! I was especially pleased that they offered so many non-alcoholic beverage options. Definitely putting Jake’s back in the rotation.
They took amazing care of us, and the food was top notch.
Open Table classifies this restaurant with a $$. In my opinion it should be a $$$
Can’t for my birthday. Originally they couldn’t find our reservation in the system. Sat us anyway. Overall pretty good experience. Server was polite. The hostess folks could be improved through customer service training. We would come here again.
Our server Jenny misinformed us on several items on the menu, prompting a dissatisfactory experience at the dinner table. When we expressed our concerns to Jenny, she prompted to say that she had been away for three days and had not read the menu. What a sad and poor excuse, along with her super slow service. Overall, the service was not up to par for a "steakhouse." As for the food, the signature item on my plate of Lamb T-Bone should not be the mashed potato, an item that I had initially asked to be substituted for another side dish. Not worth the money or the visit. With so many options in the area, I will not be coming back.
Excellent service and very friendly staff. Delicious food and beautifully presented!
WE LOVE JAKE'S! We have every special family event there - graduation, Chritmas Eve, birthdays! Thank you, thank you, thank, you! Nan
Jake's Grille is our favorite Portland Downtown restaurant. It is always fabulous!
The servicer is always so efficient and the wait staff readily answers questions and makes recommendations when we ask for guidance. The food is beautifully served and always delicious. The final touch was the tasty sorbet!
Waiter was awesome !
Friend’s birthday. Always love Jake’s for food, ambience & service!
Very elegant. Excellent service. Good food, really enjoyed our visit.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and cozy, with an elegant , historic feel. The happy hour before our meal was a good way to save some money on drinks and a few appetizers. The food was outstanding! We ordered the steelhead and stuffed salmon and they were both prepared to perfection. The waiter was friendly and efficient. Each time I have been to Jake's, they have recognized that I am a Landry's Select Club member and it has made me feel special.
Visitors from out of town
As usual the food and service were both very good. However, just a tip to your servers - don’t ever take the check after it’s signed from the table before the guests leave. It’s terrible etiquette and makes the guests feel rushed.
They did a wonderful job. Food was very tasty. Cocktail were very good.
Got there early for our reservation, was able to get seated right away. Food and dessert was amazing!! My second year going here on new year's eve. Only issue I had, although they were able to accommodate my order of an Egg white whiskey sour (they had other sour type drinks with egg white), it was not very good. Other than that would definitely go again!
We went to Jake’s Grill for New Year’s Eve. The food and service were awesome. We will absolutely go back!
Have eaten there for years with great food! This review is based on holiday New Years Eve meal. The meal was overcooked banquet style food. I was soooooooo disappointed. It was supposed to be an elegant evening out for my family. Will not do that again!!
The quality of the food did not represent the price they charged.
Yes for brunch or breakfast. Dinner was expensive and avg for the most.part. out server was very good.
We went to Jakes for an anniversary. The food and service were good. The ambiance was disappointing. Were seated in a nearly empty back room on a busy Friday, separate from most of the restaurant. Definitely not what you hope for on a special night out. I was disappointed to have chosen Jakes for this occasion.
Bar service was great but the restaurant tried to cancel our reservation while we sat in the bar and then our waitress was horrible and hurried us through dinner. Seemed liked the restaurant wanted to close early.
We are generally a fan of Jake's Grill, however this time we were disappointed. We had reservations for 1:15 and arrived on time. There were very few people in the dining room. We were seated immediately and brought our water. I ordered coffee and my husband ordered a glass of wine, which arrives promptly as well. We then ordered a caesar salad to share and each ordered chicken Marsala ( the blue plate special). After about 15 minutes we got our salads. They were bland and had no croutons.
The room began to fill with other diners and we noticed a family come in and order. We were not served until 2:15 .after that family was served. When I finally got the attention of a server, I asked where our food was and she said "I was just bringing it out". The gravy on our dishes had begun to skim over, so we know that our food had been sitting there...it was barely hot. It was very good, but our meal was already spoiled. No one ever came to top off my coffee. I had to wave down a server for that as well.
I desperately wish that they don’t get any reservation on holiday dinners. If they want to close it by 9:00, they should not get reservation on 8:30. The server kept rushing us from ordering to finishing dishes and we had to inhale our foods. It’s such a waste of delicious foods and chef’s efforts. We might have been just one of many guests on the busy day for them, but for us, it was one and only Christmas dinner at Portland with my beloved family and friends in our life. I hope that customers are better treated with respect.
We had a great time and we got to sit exactly where we wanted to. Friendly and helpful waitress.
Elegant and historic room. Excellent service. Quiet but lively atmosphere. A perfect Christmas Day dinner.
The prime rib was tough and tasteless. Food came so quickly it tasted like it had been sitting. Way overpriced for the low quality of the food.
Tony Hofer is outstanding!!! Great service, attention to detail and so personable.
Was a bit disappointed in the food quality on the last meal and the value but Tony Hofer will keep me coming back.
Christmas dinner out is always a challenge. Not this year though. It’s understandable for a really fine restaurant to be less than perfect on a holiday but Jake’s Grill managed to serve up a magnificent meal with attentive service, beautiful decor and a feeling of total relaxation. We’re not used to this so obviously Jake’s will be on the top of our list for holiday meals from now on. And if they can do this on Christmas, wonder what they can do in July on my birthday?
We have been going to Jake’s Grill for Christmas Dinner for many years, and it never disappoints. Everyone is pleased with the menu choices, and it’s a fun and relaxing meal for the family. This year I called Chelsea a few hours before our reservation to ask about gluten free choices on the kids menu, and she was so helpful. It made a big difference to be prepared for what would be safe for the grandson to eat.
Jake's was fabulous for our Christmas family dinner!
Our visit to Jakes was the second for us as we are trying to create a Christmas tradition eating at restaurants rather than home.
This bespoke restaurant reminds us of ones we visited while living in San Francisco bay area. Very old and venerable.
Server was not listening to requests - dropped the ball 3 or 4 times.
Great food,great ambiance, impeccable service!
Their holiday many is awesome!
I want to recommend to friends Jake’s grill for their special occasions.
Perfect for Christmas Eve dinner
Perfect food and service on Christmas eve - thank you!
We came to Jakes to enjoy a beautiful. Christmas Eve dinner. Everything from the ambiance, to the service and especially the holiday menu was perfection. I was recommended to eat here and I will definitely be back and will recommend to others.
Went with the family for
A Christmas celebration. Unfortunately we made the reservation for the wrong Jakes! We wanted to go to the original Jakes Crawfish that is a few blocks away. The food was good. Grandma really liked her salmon and my daughter enjoyed her ribeye steak. I had the scallops which looked good and were cooked very nicely. We started with the Caesar salad which was good as well.
