Jake's Grill - Portland
Book your next event with us
Took 45 minutes to get our entrees after our salads
My 16 oz ny was tough and had gristle through it.
Our server was apologetic, the problem was the kitchen.
Big fan of Jake's and always have been, the food at McCormick's and Schmick's in Bridgeport location is higher quality. We shared the a Wedge Salad, Porterhouse and Scallops.
I guess a reservation means nothing. We had to wait 20 minutes for our table.
Our waitress was very nice though, but it was super busy and I felt forgotten about several times. Even when waiting for extra limes for my drink.
The redeeming qualities were the good food and our waitress.
It was a busy night and the service was a little slow. Took a very long time to get drinks and food.
Restaurant said they were out of food when we arrived for our reservation
We eat out a lot. We like and appreciate good food. We were very excited to eat here, as we had never been before. It was valentines day, so they were having a 3 course special menu, which looked good. Soup/salad, entree, and dessert. We are not eating sweets so they did exchange us an appetizer for our two desserts, which was very gracious and we appreciated very much. That being said, we ordered the surf and turf entree and the rockfish entree. The surf and turf was $56. The steak was large, but over cooked and very tough. It came with 2 very small shrimp that were super dry and over cooked as well. Veggies were.....meh. The rockfish was cooked well, but drowned in a red pepper coulis that overpowered all taste of the fish, unfortunately. I asked for extra veggies in place of the risotto cake, and there were hardly any veggies, and also they tasted.....meh.
Our water glasses were empty most of the meal.
We are polite, nice people. Not used to giving bad reviews. But we were very disappointed in this iconic portland restaurant, with a sign in the window saying best steak in portland. We disagree. Sorry to have to say it.
We wont be back. Too many other amazing options.
Mediocre food and mediocre service. Prime rib was cold, rolls were rock hard. Disappointed
Always the best service and food
Food was pretty good! Service wasn’t the greatest. Ambience was perfect!
As a Portland staple. Jake's grill didn't disappoint. The quality of the food was as incredible as ever and both of us went away more than full.
I have some gripes, though:
1. Even though we had a reservation, we were made to wait over 30 minutes for our table.
2. Our table was very uncomfortably situated at an angle in the middle of the room. Servers kept bumping into my wife's chair, and her back was hurting by the end of the night.
3. Nowhere online did it state that the menu would be a fixed three course meal. This was frustrating, as my wife isn't a big eater and we had already made plans for desert elsewhere.
I think these issues have more to do with the way the restaurant is managed, and less to do with the servers themselves, who were all very kind and attentive. I'd still recommend Jake's Grill, but not on a holiday when it's likely to be crowded--it doesn't seem their management understands how to handle these situations.
We must also say here that it was St. Valentines day, and there were people jammed in the doorway where we stood for almost an hour beyond our reservation time. The Open Table website showed openings at 1845 but there were several couples and groups there at that time with that same appointment time. It seemed that they were overbooking and pretty calm and collected about it. But we were within 5 minutes of leaving. Dinner was solid, so was the service and the fixed price dinner was served hot and ready within 10 minutes of our order - no problem there. Our server was extremely smooth and made us feel right at home as soon as she saw us sit down - no problems there. But the experience might have been perfect if not for the lobby wait with 50 of our "best friends".
We made a reservation but had to wait a long time.
Our service was exceptional and the food was outstanding. We were there for Valentine’s Day and they had a three course meal option, regular menu didn’t seem available. The food was great but the plates seemed hap hazard in presentation and mass produced, which makes sense as it was a very busy holiday.
Dinner for two was expensive but not unreasonable. Would love to come back and try the regular menu, the lobster and crab dip was incredible.
Great place to relax while eating . The service was awesome and enticing
Valentine’s Day dinner was a hit overall. The salad was passable, not as crisp as I’ve had there in the past, but the rib eye was cooked perfectly and was so delicious. I chose the blood orange panna cotta for dessert and it was super smooth and extremely tasty! My wife had the crab/shrimp/Brie-stuffed salmon and the chocolate mousse cake. She loved them both. Super good job Jake’s Grill! Thanks for making the first part of Valentine’s Day special!
I have some food allergies but the menu has plenty of delicious options for me. They are also very accommodating in working with my dietary needs on some menu items.
Our food was delicious and the ambiance was lovely and very comforting.
Food was good, but expensive for the quality. Service was friendly and professional, but slow, and items were offered but not brought. We were not seated for 25 minutes after our reservation, and the food took a long time to come.
We enjoyed our time at Jake's. Our server was professional and attentive and out food was amazing! A great variety of options on the menu.
I tried the Blackened RockFish, but found it too fishy for me. Sent it back and had a nice salad. Partner had the Pork Chop and it was very good. We also enjoyed the Berrys and Ice Crean for desert. Next time I'll stick with the Beef or Pork. Overall, we like Jakes alot.
My husband and I went for a Valentines Day dinner, our waiter was good at first but then a group came in that she had to wait on. After 1 hr and 15 min we finally went to the desk asking for water and if our food was coming soon. The front gave us water and told our waiter we needed her assistance. Our food came, my husband had a nice cold burger and fries! My meal was pretty good, salmon and mashed potatoes, the vegetables were cold and overcooked . We were never offered dessert or coffee as we couldn’t get any help at our table. I was so disappointed! Jake’s had always been a favorite of mine in the past and I expect more from a restaurant that charges a handsome price for a burger. I feel pretty insulted! I’m calling the manager tomorrow!
Our server was wonderful but it took almost an hour for us to get our food.
Always a good choice with an excellent menu and friendly service. Plus Landry points. One of the best in Portland.
It was a special occasion but since my friend did not show up (she put next Wednesday on her calendar) it was just me but we are going back in next week. Same day same time:-)
Very nice meal, scallops and filet were delicious.
Our wait staff was helpful and great with her recommendations for brunch cocktails--the spicy Bloody Mary was amazing with the local monkey vodka--we were celebrating our son's 30th birthday and we all had a great time together!
Jake's is always a trendy, comfortable dining experience with a varied menu from fine seafood to fine steaks.
Highly recommend Jake's for any occasion!
Great food, service and PORTLAND experience
Straight forward steakhouse. Standard menu. No interesting items. Solid preparation, solid service, enjoyable. You won’t be disappointed but no “wow” here
Our server Tony was fantastic, we sat by a window tho and a homelss man stood and looked thru the window and just stared for about 5 mins which was a little uncomfortable. Food was good but my burger was under cooked.
Good food, but they took out all the booths and there was a lot of sound from the bar you could hear everywhere. Wish it was a little more relaxed.
We hadn’t been to Jake’s Grill in a few years. We went to celebrate my birthday last week, and it was wonderful. The food was delicious- a great beat salad, Filet Oscar, and a graham cracker crepe brûlée Napoleon that was amazing! I was especially pleased that they offered so many non-alcoholic beverage options. Definitely putting Jake’s back in the rotation.
They took amazing care of us, and the food was top notch.
Open Table classifies this restaurant with a $$. In my opinion it should be a $$$
Can’t for my birthday. Originally they couldn’t find our reservation in the system. Sat us anyway. Overall pretty good experience. Server was polite. The hostess folks could be improved through customer service training. We would come here again.
Our server Jenny misinformed us on several items on the menu, prompting a dissatisfactory experience at the dinner table. When we expressed our concerns to Jenny, she prompted to say that she had been away for three days and had not read the menu. What a sad and poor excuse, along with her super slow service. Overall, the service was not up to par for a "steakhouse." As for the food, the signature item on my plate of Lamb T-Bone should not be the mashed potato, an item that I had initially asked to be substituted for another side dish. Not worth the money or the visit. With so many options in the area, I will not be coming back.
Excellent service and very friendly staff. Delicious food and beautifully presented!
WE LOVE JAKE'S! We have every special family event there - graduation, Chritmas Eve, birthdays! Thank you, thank you, thank, you! Nan
Jake's Grille is our favorite Portland Downtown restaurant. It is always fabulous!
The servicer is always so efficient and the wait staff readily answers questions and makes recommendations when we ask for guidance. The food is beautifully served and always delicious. The final touch was the tasty sorbet!
