I always love Jake's Grill. It makes the trip memorable.
Great Server and as always amazing food. The server really made the experience amazing.
It was fine. “Odd” situation in the women’s room... man and woman in a stall together, water all over the floor, screaming and crying. Pork overcooked and dry, chicken excellent, calamari nothing special. Server was fine, nothing special or engaging and not very knowledgeable about the menu
Four of us had a Holiday Season business lunch at Jake's Grill and it was a perfect choice. From the first moment we walked in the door, we received a friendly greeting and were seated by a charming young man. But the coup d' grace was our server, Joseph (name on the billing receipt). The restaurant was packed and his station seemed particularly busy, but his outstanding service and his outgoing and positive personality together made this one of the best restaurant experiences ever. Thank you all.
Steak was nearly raw when I ordered medium rare. Sent it back and it came back nearly well done. For a $40 6 oz filet I expect it to be cooked properly. Fortunately it was a good cut of meat so I could still eat it. Was disappointed as this was my 50th birthday dinner. Overpriced for what we got. Oysters were very small and the veggies just tasted like burnt oil.
The steelhead was amazing! Yum!
We went to Jake's looking forward to having halibut but, unfortunately, they weren't offering it when we visited. We both had the sturgeon, which was ok, but not great, so we were disappointed.
Handsome if slightly dated decor in a terrific downtown setting. While its niche is aged elegance, it has lost much of its freshness over the years. Service was excellent (thank you, Iya), but the food was 3 1/2 stars at best. Delicious Brussels sprouts, however... Standard calamari and burger, rockfish with “lobster” risotto cake could have been much better, and the meat in the otherwise very tasty short-rib stroganoff was very poorly trimmed and therefore very fatty. Still a fun evening out, just needs some updating.
Another fabulous meal at Jake's Grill. Sadly, we were seated in the "Cork Room", our first time in there. It was freezing (and I am usually quite warm). The Cork Room has ceiling fans which they don't turn off even when requested, so, word of caution - turn down a table in the Cork Room!
Went there for Thanksgiving since there were just a few of us this year. Good food, nice atmosphere, excellent service.
We had reservations for 8 people at 5:15 on Thanksgiving night. Six arrived at 5:00 to be told we had no reservations so we had to show the hostess a cell phone with our OpenTable reservation. The stress started then. After disputing our reservation after a few minutes they brought the six of us to a table and after five minutes, we were told we had to move to an empty back room where our two remaining family members sat. Is this where they sit old people and why didn't they move two people where six people were already sitting down. Totally disorganized management staff.
Dinner good and bad: Two salads didn't have salad dressing and we had to wait for dressing while the other six people finished their salads and soup, kitchen doesn't know the difference between filet mignon and sirloin since the person who ordered the filet medium (well done) received a sirloin (rare) and she had to send it back. I had to share my filet with her because the replacement steak was small.
My husband had to find the waiter three times, literally get up and go find him. We had to wait for long periods of time before our waiter would come back. Understaffed....
The food was good and everyone enjoyed their meal - turkey was delicious, soup was good, beef stroganoff was delicious, Sirloin (AKA filet) was good since the two sirloin and prawns were actually filet and prawns.
We will not go back next Thanksgiving. We've eaten at both Jake's many times and were expecting a special holiday celebration with family and great service.
Jake's needs to access where they failed before Christmas arrives.
Thanksgiving dinner out. Great 3 course meal in a nice dining room. We would return
The oysters were outstanding on the appetizer. I had the rib eye sliced and it was good, but needed more seasoning. My dinner partner had the beef tenderloin, but it was thin for that cut of steak and not flavorful. We would definitely go back and maybe go for the seafood.
The food was great but the service left a lot to be desired. They were probably understaffed but our waiter kept forgetting to bring us things we'd requested (cocktail menu, wine taster) and then kept coming over and asking us if we were ready to order. The wine we ordered to have with dinner didn't come until we were almost done eating! That was quite disappointing.
Tried the fried chicken. So good!
Server was very attentive, pleasant and professional.
I liked the restaurant. Loved the old architecture of the building.
The service was okay. The waiter we had did not seem really happy to be there.
Food was excellent.
The only thing that happened that didn’t sit well was that we had a gift card that indeed have money on it to cover the dinner plus some and they could not get it to work. I think they ran as gift card when the card very clearly said to run it as a credit card. Fortunately we had other means to pay the bill but they didn’t seem to care.
The most obnoxious server ever trying to upsell us in the most obnoxious way possible. Probably tried to push 25 different things on us. Then the burger was a salt bomb, so disgusting. The atmosphere is great though but it didn’t make up for the server.
Celebrated belated birthday! 🙌🏼🌠🌌
Very good and the wait staff was excellent.
Post 25th Wedding Anniversary
Great service it the food quality was just average and the table we had was really poor.
We had a terrific table in a very private room. The service and food, amazing! I had the Ahi tuna and the generous portion cooked perfectly! There were 10 of us and our server was fantastic. We had a wonderful time.
My girlfriend and I were staying at the Sentinel Hotel, and looking for someplace to have brunch on Saturday morning. Not wanting to spend two-hours waiting for a seat at one of the more “popular” downtown brunch destinations, we decided to check the menu for the restaurant right downstairs. Incredible selection! Sweet, savory, classic dishes (I had the Hangtown Fry), and fresh takes (girlfriend had Dungeness crab Benedict) something for everyone. Super attentive service and $3 mimosas!? Why go anywhere else?
I ordered a medium well steak and it came out bloody, extremely rare. Wish my steak was cooked the way i wanted it to be.
Always solid service with initial greeting by Haley. Bonus round, impeccable service from fabulous Ms. Kristi and team.
We enjoy the food with amazing service. Thank you 🤙🏼
Our meals were quite good and I especially liked the wedge salad. My husband's salad was HUGE, and he said it also was quite good. We both enjoyed our entrees that evening.
Great food, great service! I would recommend Jake's to anyone.
Thank you for the very wonderful meal on Veteran's Day. My wife and I had a wonderful time. Gladly reccomend Jake's to anyone heading into downtown.
Celebrated 2019 Veterans' Day with complimentary lunch. The Blackened Rockfish on Crispy Lobster cake was delicious.
Without a doubt, the worst food we have had in Portland!
Someone needs to have the kitchen look up a recipe for Chilaquiles, and then follow it carefully. What I got was plate full of mush!! The Yamhill scramble was also a poor dish, with the so-called Jake's crispy potatoes nothing but a shoe-leather look and worse taste.
Will not go back!
Great ambiance! Service was beyond amazing! It was our first time in Portland. What a friendly city! Jake’s was a last minute decision and a great one! Fortunately Open Table had reservations available. The Dungess crab dip was yummy ( but not enough for three), the French onion soup was wonderful.. comfort food. We also ordered the fettuccine short ribs ( basically beef stroganoff!). Excellent.. and the steak Diane. Great cocktails/wine. Did I mention how awesome the service was??!! Lol
Amazing service and spectacular Filet Mignon. Always a good idea tongrt the Creme Brulee for dessert.
Great restaurant with attentive staff and great food. We had a great time celebrating a birthday dinner and would not hesitate to go back!
It was a birthday celebration and it was lovely. The server was so nice and helpful and the food was delicious.
See you next time.
As long time residents of Portland we decided to re-visit one of the iconic restaurants in the City, Jake's Grill. The dinner was a complete disappointment. First of all, one goes to a restaurant to enjoy the food and sadly, the food at Jake's was not worth repeating. The calamari was tasteless, the fish entre overcooked, the sides were swimming in fat and broth; in a word, the food was terrible. While many tourists are attracted to Jake's from it's long standing reputation I'm afraid this restaurant has fallen from grace and is living solely on it's reputation. This is not a place to bring visitors, business associates, or friends. Sorry.
Excellent place for a business lunch. Two of my colleagues and me had an outstanding lunch and the noise level was such that we were able to enjoy the meal and the discussion. We will be back.
