Bread took a while to come, server forgot our ranch dressing, didn’t check back in until we were close to finished. There weren’t that many people there either.
But they were friendly and food was tasty
Great food and service!
When I made this reservation I put down that we were celebrating a birthday, also when they called me to confirm I told them we were celebrating a birthday and the young man said yes I see that. During and after our meal they never once mentioned my sons birthday! We had a waitress named Mary Ann that was probably the worst server we have ever had! She never smiled, had no knowledge of the menu and was very snotty when she was asked questions! Three of us ordered salmon and all three of us had bones in our fish!! It says nothing of bones in the fish nor did our server make us aware of it. Needless to say we couldn’t finish our meals. On the way out I talked to a manager and explained what had happened and he said “I’m sorry and just let me know next time you come in “ !! Well after this experience we will never go back and we will never recommend this place to any of our family or friends.
Great place to meet for business lunches. Service is prompt and you can get a table that provides privacy.
A Sunday brunch for two in an elegant setting. The service was prompt and polite, not obsequious. The food was terrific, starting with the fresh bread and choices of jam or marmalade. Wonderful and well-priced mimosas accompanied our brunch items perfectly. It was difficult to decide on the entree as everything sounded really good.
I have dined at Jake's Grill in the past, but this time was not a great experience. The service was slow for our group (of 10); it took a while for our entrees to arrive, well after we were done with the soup/salads. I had the meatloaf; it was dry, tasteless, and unappealing. Others mostly liked their food, however.
The atmosphere was nice. The service was excellent. The food was poor. We ate during March dining month. My husband had the pasta which was overcooked. I had the steelhead which was buried under a HANDFUL of uncut parsley and chives. The accompanying risotto cake was inedible.
As always this is one of my oft-frequented eateries--and for good reason: great food and service.
We made a reservation but there wasn’t any table available so we had to wait 15-20 mins upon arrival. There were people that arrived after us but got a table before so that part seems strange. The food was pretty decent. Service was ok. We got this vibe as if the restaurant wasn’t welcoming guests who are there for the Portland Dining Month deal. For $33/person, the food menu is pretty good other than the service.
Nice old school ambience but the food was just average and not attentively prepared and plated.
We celebrated my birthday and our wedding anniversary. We picked Jake's because it was close to our hotel. It was the beat choice. Everything was perfect.
Service was a little slow, but food was great. 3/$33 special was really a great value and the steelhead was prepared perfectly.
Terrible food for the price..........
Glob of Rice and crappy piece of Salmon
Best fried oysters ever, anywhere, anytime! Jenny provided stellar service.
A great lunch meeting. The Blue Plate Special was amazing!
Everything we ordered at lunch was very good. Service was friendly and efficient. The decor is old, classic Portland.
Service was laxed and inadequate for 3 guests on a Thursday eve where there were small groups of diners. Two of us ordered med rare Ribeye steaks (40+$ each) the third ordered a filet mignon. The filet and 1 of the two ribeyes were ok, my ribeye was fibrous and very hard to cut or consume at any attempt (napkins are for gristle I guess).
Our waitress only showed up once to refill our water glasses and paid no attention to our empty wine glasses until I asked the maitre d' to have the waitress come over for an additional wine order. She took the additional glass of wine order from one of my two guests but failed to deliver. However she did offer to bring another steak so I decided on the filet which showed up at the end of our meeting and left me totally embarrassed as my guests reassured me to take my time. Needless to say $181 + a begrudging $40 tip later, did not reflect a good experience. This is not my first time there and hopefully not my last but I’ll need to have a more focused wait staff when I return.
Great location for a business dinner. Highly recommended by all who attended our dinner the other night.
Waiter was super helpful as we had special dietary requests. We were going to a concert so he worked hard to get us on our way in good time. It was a very pleasant experience.
I made reservations here for my birthday and it was amazing. Special birthday menus, outstanding service and delicious food and drinks made the experience special from start to finish. I will definitely go here again and have been recommending to all my friends and family!
This is a lovely quiet place with a fine selection of American and regional Northwest offerings and fine ambiance. One cannot go wrong here. Excellent service.
We both had an excellent piece of salmon and in general the whole meal was very good. However the defining expereicne was the great service form our waiter "Tony"
Agreed! Tony was a charmer; professional, personable and attentative.
food was very good. Eat here if you are thinking about seafood. The wait staff was excellent.
My friend and I chose Jake’s Grill for our lunch date yesterday. Our service and food were excellent. We agreed we will choose Jake’s for our next get-together.
VERY comfy and cozy. Perfect setting for an anniversary dinner. I recommend making a family section because the noise was taking away from the couple's enjoying a nice date night in the same area. I have kids too and understand but separating sections would be nice. Server was great. Food was great. Venue was great.
Love coming here, Jake’s is top shelf stuff all the way around!
I appreciated that they treated me well as a woman dining alone. I was seated at a nice table. My server was young but kept referring to me as 'miss.' (I am 63). I was in town only briefly and this restaurant had the best options for Dungeness crab. I ordered the appetizer ($19!!) and the crab was delicious. . for about a minute. The rest of the cup was filled with iceberg lettuce. . very disappointing. I mentioned to both the waiter and the host and only got an apology.
I ordered steelhead for the main course and that was quite good.
Should I find myself in Portland again, I would try somewhere else.
My daughters 21st bday
Overall an excellent night. The only hangup we had was due to being ignored by the two front desk girls when we first walked in. A third came up and asked them if we'd been helped then they paid attention to us. After that, it was excellent. The food was incredible and the experience was something we will definitely do again.
While my steak was okay, my Open Table $10 coupon was not. The Manager tried to redeem it for me, but it did not work.
Excellent in all respects, except the service was a little too solicitous....too many interruptions. We don't mind a server coming into our line of sight in case we need something, but we don't need to be asked every few minutes.
Our server was Tony H....he made it a super fun event
The steaks were on the small side and not a lot of flavor. We BBQ Steaks all the time and ours at home were much better. Wedge salads were very small. Side of mushrooms just tasted like oily mushrooms. The onion rings were not onion rings at all, just a greasy mess. $150 for 2 steaks, salad, mushrooms and the free appetizer with 2 drinks and tip not worth it. Our waitress had the attitude like she wished she could of retired many years ago. We don't go to nice dinners often so this was a disappointment.
Great stuffed crab and bay shrimp salad salmon. Highly recomended. Delicious !!!!!!
Great food! Not our first trip. However it was our first trip on our new Keto plan. And we had no problem making it work! Thanks a ton. It was great!
Our experience for Valentine's was unforgettable. Both the filet mignon and the salmon were flavorful choices, and the staff did a great job of making the night special. Thank you!
I never write bad reviews but felt the need from my experience. Valentines Day dinner, ordered a bottle of sauvignon blanc and received a cabernet sauvignon. Told the waitress I believe its the wrong wine after she opened the bottle and she told me its what we ordered - 1st poor experience. Our entrees come out, get handed a ribeye well done when I ordered a filet mignon medium. A well done steak - 2nd poor experience. Lastly comes desert, brings out the wrong thing yet again. I understand the service industry can be challenging so I held back but had to bring it to her attention that what she brought, wasn’t what I ordered. The waitress then proceeds to tell me that what she brought was what I ordered, she could go run back and get the other dessert but I wouldn’t like it and that the one I ordered has just been going to waste all night because no one is ordering it - 3rd experience. The wine she brought was $30 more than what we ordered and the entree was more expensive as well. Its not about the money, it was about the experience that she ruined. If you go to Jake’s Grill, either make sure you’re yelling your order for clarity or just ask them to choose your meals in advance.
The service is amazing always checking up on you making sure you have everything you need.
My review is predicated primarily on disappointment factor, so take that into consideration when weighing this review. I made reservations here for Valentine's having had good experiences here in the past. In the weeks leading up to the date I searched for Valentine's specific menus and found none, but the standard fare available worked well for us. The night of, we discovered that every literally every available seafood dish (and many of the non-seafood dishes) pivoted on shellfish as a key element of the dish, which we can't eat. When asked about substitutions, we were told that we could only subtract the part of the dish containing the shellfish.
The other tables were loud, serivce was fine, the meal selection was disappointing.
Our server was the best! He was so cute and just because of him we would go back In A heart beat. Excellent service and very fast! Keep it up :)
