Jake's Grill - Portland Ratings and Reviews
All the food was outstanding except for my grandsons broccoli cheese soup. The cheese was curdled! I don’t think there’s any excuse for this in a restaurant of that caliber. I hesitated to say anything to the waitress because this really was a gift for my two grandchildren for Christmas. We just decided to use it in January. I didn’t want to spoil the mood. Although they have been to this restaurant many times, it was my first visit. I liked the ambience, and we did get a window table which was wonderful.
I love this solid long term icon restaurant in downtown Portland. You can always trust you will get a very good meal, and the service has always been fantastic. Had a table by the window and it was perfect for a business conversation. Not loud at all. Classy and good all the way around!
During the holidays my wife, her cousin (a very busy lady) and I meet at Jake's Grill for a quiet, chatty two hour lunch. This has become a tradition. We have never been disappointed. The food is great, the service is polite, friendly and efficient and the prices are reasonable.
I request a window table (if possible) and so far our luck has been good.
Thank you Jakes.
I would normally recommend Jakes on any occassion. However, after going there for a holiday, i would recommend avoiding Jakes on any of the big or romantic holidays. Even though i made a reservation weeks in advance, we were sat nearly an hour past our reservation time. It really put a damper in our evening since there wasn’t even space for us to sit or have drinks at the bar so our party was forced to stand for an hour waiting. Once being seated It took an additional 30 minuets to order food. Our server was wonderful, It was apparent she was stretched thin and not very supported. I was disappointed to be in charge of making plans and putting so much faith in Jakes to make our dinner experience perfect.
Although this restaurant is generally a good choice they clearly blew it for New Year’s Eve. Perhaps greed took over as they clearly accepted far to many reservations and therefore could not handle the volume. I heard 3 other people ask for the managers name as they were very unhappy.
Our reservation was for 7:00- we were finally seated at 7:45. Then it was another 45 minutes before our order was taken, and our semi warm food arrived 25 minutes after that for part of the table and we all got to wait again for the rest of the table to get served.
Good restaurant on a average day but never for a holiday.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Jake's Grill. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the service was friendly and efficient AND the food was great. I had a very pleasant surprise -- my entree selection included an appetizer plus dessert. Each course was wonderful and very tasty. A great dining experience in every way!
We were seated next to the server’s station so we asked for a different table because there were many open. I used to be a server and my husband currently is one so we understand that there are server sections and a seating chart order, but this table was atrocious. As the server took us to a different table she told us she would probably be chewed out by her boss for switching our table. What are we supposed to say to that? Was she looking for a bigger tip? Hoping that would change our mind? It was unprofessional regardless and made me anxious the rest of the night because I don’t like getting people in trouble or having that over my head.
There wasn’t enough time in between each course and the food came out fast, like Applebee’s fast. This isn’t a problem normally but I was under the impression this was a slower paced, fine dining establishment.
My food was cold but good. My husband’s was delicious. The staff was attentive and pleasant.
Every Christmas morning we seek out a hotel restaurant to have breakfast. This year we picked Jake's Grill because we like the ambience. The service and food was great. They have a professional wait staff and it was a pleasure spending the morning with them.
Wasn’t very good. Waitress was not happy to be there and showed it. Not very accommodating.
Foods as just Ok for the price. It was a fixed price menu and you could tell the food was just mass produced and thrown together.
Besides being Christmas Eve, it was also my husbands birthday which they knew about, and nothing special was done.
We won’t be back. It was too bad because it such a lovely evening up till then.
This restaurant needs a reset. It needs the improve the following: 1) Not seating our party of six at two small round tables in the bar and near a very noisy kitchen with dropped plates and staff shouting at each other; 2) the "prix fixe" of $36-$42 was not a good value--patrons should have been given the option of ordering off an a la carte menu as well; 3) the food was inconsistent: one of our party ordered a prime rib that was a fatty, greasy mess; another member of our party had a pasta dish that bland and tasteless; and, 4) a long, long wait to give our order to the waitperson and actually receiving the meal (about two hours). For the price of this meal the quality was not very good. I am not sure we will come back because this restaurant does not represent a good value for the money. Jake's Grill overall grade: D.
We had not been to Jake’s with our family in the past - only one previous time for a business dinner with 20 people. The food was not prepared to our order nor was the food all that great! We had a Wagu steak that was tasty - but again not prepared to order specifications. We shared an order or Mack n Cheese that was COLD and bland, the crispy onions on the Mack n Cheese was the tastiest part of the dish. One of our guests order his Burger Rare and it was well done. The other guest had the Meat Load dinner- she liked it, her favorite part... The Mashed Potatoes.
I only had a Wedge Salad-which I enjoyed.
Our waitress was HORRIBLE! The slowest service I have encountered in years- no personality, forgot our drinks - and never checked back to see if wanted another drink!
I was sooooo disappointed for a bill that was over $150.00!
My wife and I have eaten at many a fine restaurant and this one let us down. The halibut my wife ordered was overcooked and tough and when she tried to remark about this to the waiter he turned and walked away. My filet mignon was very tasty, but the bearnaise sauce was a very small portion even for the tiny steak. The amount of lobster was excellent, but did not make up for the paltry sense of what should have been a special meal for the prices charged. We expected fine dining and we got chain restaurant quality.
I have always been impressed with Jake's food. This time was no different. My one complaint was that our waitress seemed pretty rude throughout the entire dinner. She was upset because she was so busy and was having trouble keeping up with everything. She talked to the entire table but ignored me the entire time. When I tried to order, she made it seem like I was interrupting her. I asked for a refill of water at the beginning of the meal and it took over 15 minutes for her to fill it. She came by one time and filled everyone's water at the table but mine. Even the other people at the table were commenting about how she must have had something against me. Other than the waitress, it was an overall good experience
