Always good. We have been dining at Jakes for over 15 years. It is consistently great. One of my mainstay go to resturants in Portland Or.
My family loves to dine at Jakes , we really are never disappointed. ❤️
St Patrick Day 815PM dinner reservations. A mad house! Very impressed with the maître d', who handled all (and there were many) requests with a smile and professionalism. We were seated within 5 minutes of reservation. It did take 15 minutes for a server; but understandable considering. The food was spectacular. She had the prawn cocktail (which looked like mini lobsters) and lettuce wedge - all fresh and tasty. I had the horseradish crusted Steelhead which was delicious; served with Asparagus, tender and cooked to perfection. Will go again on a night not a holiday celebration to see if the rating can be improved; although still a high rating for me.
Food ok, but expensive. Thought it would be fun for out of town guests. But it wasn’t.Tired restaurant.
Another perfect meal. My bouillabaisse was outstanding as were all of my guests meals. Service, spot on.
St paddys day, bday
No other place to be to celebrate St Patrick’s Day! :) thank you for accommodating us and we’ll see you next time.
We enjoyed the historic atmosphere. They have really good chowder. The seafood is good however prices are high. I only recommend for special occasions.
I have been going to Jake's for over 30 years. Of course it has the reputation as the premier fish house in Portland, with tons of nostalgia, etc. Over the last 10 years my wife and I have been going there for special occasions, as she likes the crab saute dish which is $46.50, and usually pretty close to being worth it. In the last few visits, it seems the service has declined, and since usually very crowded, it feels like much less of a special evening/experience than it used to be. This time the service of our half-shell oysters appetizer took about 15 minutes. Our server rarely stopped at our table to check in. The clientele has deteriorated over the years as well, now mostly very casually dressed, baseball caps, tattered jeans, etc. So again, in my opinion it is less of a Special evening than before. The food is still good overall, but not every dish is top of the line as it used to be. For instance when our caesar salad was brought, there were no anchovies. When we ordered they didnt ask if we would like anchovies, so we expected them to be included on top or on the side, typical of a caesar salad right? The server seemed surprised that we even asked for them, and took 10 minutes to bring them. May seem like small potatoes but this should not happen at Jakes. So we will probably be looking for a different Special occasion venue in the future. But....the bar is still great
Loved the sole and rockfish as well as the very kind and spirited Victoria who has been there for many, many years she made it special
Truly some of the best food and service I've ever experienced!
The food was very average. Way overrated and way over priced.
The waiter was very attentive and the staff was friendly. The food was excellent- but beware an officer patrols the area looking for illegal left turns! He was nice, and only gave us a warning. But no left turns on one of the streets. I would go again if I lived here! I’ve been there twice in the 4 days I have been here. Great food!!!!
Very attentive server, and a quick kitchen. We really enjoyed the Crab and Shrimp Cakes, well balanced and properly prepared.
Our party of seven people enjoyed the food and ambience of Jake's. We were celebrating a birthday. The hostess agreed with our request to move to a table in a quieter area.
The wait staff was attentive and the food was delicious. I took a chance by ordering Ahi Tuna Kung Pao and was glad I did - seared tuna chunks with lots of vegetables in a soy ginger sauce.
After the luncheon,we lingered at the table and didn't feel any pressure to move along. It was a great experience at an iconic Portland restaraunt.
I & 2 friends had lunch this past Saturday. We flew up from Silicon Valley, CA for a day trip. The restaurant was perfect. Our server Gabriel was beyond Outstanding. He made excellent suggestions, which we followed. This is what we ordered collectively, won't separate it. 2 Dungeness Crab Leg cocktails, 1 Seared Ahi Tuna Steak, Ginger, Wasabi, Soyu, 2 fish tacos and half-dozen Quillicine Oysters on the half shell. Martinis and Wine. Absolutely superb lunch. Truly, could not have been better. The Dungeness Crab Leg cocktails were to die for!!
Great food, great service, always on point. One of our favorites in Portland.
Whenever I have an out-of-towner come to Portland, Jake's is my first dinner choice. Always energetic, always delicious, always evocative of Portland.
Very good food and excellent service. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection.
Experience was not as good as when we were there in Feb. I ordered the same thing and it was good but not as good as when ordered in Feb.
We took our daughter and son-in-law, both of whom, had never been here. The place was packed and we were early so we had to wait for our reservation time. Once we were seated, the water was helpful in explaining the dishes to our children and what was included. We all had a different fish dishes after splitting two beet salads. We enjoyed our meals with a nice bottle of white wine. Their selection of wines is excellent, lots to choose from at all prices. After dinner we shared one triple choice dessert (creme brulee, a fruit compote with ice cream and flourless chocolate cake). Everything was excellent. We all enjoyed ourselves with a cup of coffee after.
We chose Jake's based on it's historical reputation and proximity to our hotel (walking distance always makes for less stress). Our server was Bret. He was very professional and on top of the details we needed to hear. The food matched our high expectations and we felt very comfortable and well served.
The place is large but we felt we garnered the right level of attention. I will not hesitate to return.
The muscles and the salmon were excellent
Our group of 4 had a quiet table even though the restaurant was packed. Even with very quiet-spoken guests, it was always easy to follow the conversations - perfect for a business recruitment dinner. The food and beverages were all stellar - could have been on Bourbon St in New Orleans. Service was impeccable.
Really enjoyed it there as we always do. Thank you again. The service is always above and beyond
Lived in Portland over 30 years and came here for the 1st time, absolutely loved it! Great food, great service and wonderful ambiance.
Razor Clams were excellent, accompanied by Vickie's typical excellent service.
Attentive, informative server without being intrusive. Crab bisque was excellent. Crab salad probably the best I've ever eaten!! Will go again and also look for items on line.
Apart from being put in a back out of the way corner we had a great birthday meal for my wife.
Our server, Rob, was great suggesting fine menu items and looking after us really well. The food was great too and imaginative use of fish. You could have some pretty expensive choices - 3 types of oyster etc.
Always a winner. Excellent seafood, broad menu, inventive drinks. Good service.
Great Seafood - enjoyed the dinner. Service was exceptional!
Always reliable to deliver food prepared as requested. Wait staff is almost without exception highly motivated and friendly. Get a window seat and be amused at the flotsam and jetsam walking by on the sidewalks.
We went to the wrong Jake’s made it to the right jakes the food service the ambience Was amazing
I love the atmosphere at Jake’s. And the service is consistently great.
Wonderful server, great food! Bright and cheery place
Great dinner, great night
The parking was convenient, the restaurant was decorated nicely, first class service and outstanding presentation of food, the service was excellent and we had a great time.
Always a standard must eat at place for many years whenever I visit Portland. Can’t really get a better review than that.
Great food and service as usual. While somewhat speedy this simply the best seafood in Portland
Near perfection on all courses. The smoked trout app was amazing! Oysters on the half shell were as good as any. My wife had the crab leg saute'. She can't go there and not order it. I had Razor clams, they were outstanding.
I have decided we need to go there more often just to try more of the menu.
An obvious favorite of ours.
