We both had lobster tails. Both of our lobster tails had a strong taste and smell of ammonia, which is associated with spoiled lobster. My replacement tail came and it also has the odor and taste of ammonia. Obviously Jake’s got a batch of lobster tails. At $70 for a 20 oz tail, it was a disappointing meal at best.
We had a very nice evening out and delicious meal there. It was a bit busy (being a Friday night), so our waiter was a bit slow in attending to us, but otherwise very enjoyable
Fun night out
Jake's is always excellent. I moved to Washington and every time I come to Portland, I have dinner at Jake's. The food, service and ambiance are always excellent.
Excellent service and large selection of options. Will definitely be returning.
Reliable and excellent . . . as usual! Jakes is a tradition for us!
Food was decent but service was poor. Sequence of the food, plates not bussed, wait times for ordering, getting check etc. I needed to ask for the check at the front desk/check in area.
Whilst food was decent, would not return and would not recommend. Especially at +$50 per head price point
We were in Portland for business over the weekend and Jakes was at the top of my list. I love their Seafood Bouillabaisse; it is the best I have ever had!0 it is a thick, rich and spicy tomato based stew filled with chunks of white fish, clams, mussels, crab legs, scallops, and prawns; it is phenomenal!
My husband and I went for dinner on Friday night and we were not disappointed. We started off with bacon wrapped shrimp and crab stuffed prawns and they were delicious. For our main course I had the Bouillabaisse, and my husband had the NY steak. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and can’t wait to go back again next time we are in Portland!
I always love it here!
We appreciate the accommodation Jakes provided to ensure our party was seated in a quiet location for a business lunch, as one in the party is a little difficult to hear. Jakes secured the back room for the lunch, ensuring a quite, private dining like experience. Five stars for the food and service, as is customary and the reason why we continue to hold our business meals there.
The service was just right, and the food was delicious, as usual. This restaurant is a long time Portland classic.
This was a dinner for my husband’s 79th birthday. I brought a cake in ahead of time to be served for dessert. The food was great and the server, though very busy, was appropriately attentive. She never got the message about the cake though, which was a minor disappointment. I should have made sure she was properly informed. Other than that the evening was perfect and I would definitely return.
Always a special experience. My wife and I love the atmosphere at Jake's and of course the food is always top notch, with service to match. We both love seafood and at Jake's it is always fresh and perfectly prepared.
Our waiter was fantastic! He always seemed to show up exactly when we needed him. We ordered and got our food very quickly. It seemed as though we never had to wait longer than necessary.
Such a very special place to celebrate an occasion with Family. Thank you!
Outstanding experience all around. The weather was good so we ate at an outside table which added even more to the overall ambience. This was my first time at Jake’s but won’t be the last. I highly recommend this restaurant for all occasions.
Outstanding local favorite. If you like fresh quality seafood this is the place. My Alaskan stuffed halibut with crab and shrimp was outstanding!
This Restaurant was recommended during a gathering in Seattle and highly recommended. I travelled to Portland for Show and meeting an old childhood friend. He also said the restaurant was highly recommended and I was disappointed. The food was very good, the prices were reasonable and the staff were outstanding.
Great food and service!
The Oysters on the Half Shell and the French Onion Soup were amazing. The Cedar Plank Salmon left little to be desired. It was cools ok but the seasoning just didn’t seem right and didn’t taste the cedar plank at all. That being said, Jakes is a destination and will be back again but try a different entree as I’ve never been disappointed prior to this over the many years I’ve been going.
The ambience was nice a classic old building with a restaurant that’s been there 100 years. I thought that most of the menu was quite overpriced. I had the shrimp étouffée and there was nothing great or special about it the shrimp were previously frozen and nothing outstanding and the taste was slightly better than average. The French onion soup I had was decent but nothing to write home about… And had crème brûlée for dessert which was actually quite good. Overall it was a decent experience but I felt like I overpaid for what I got and how it tasted and the service was lackluster… My waitress only paid attention to me when I flagged her down
Took the family here for my wife’s Birthday. Great food and excellent service!
Jakes is a restaurant near us and is always dependable for having a good dinner with great food, and good service. It is reasonably quiet.
The holiday menu was delightful! The food excellent! Wine list, Cocktail list, Entrees, Brunch options, Excellent! An overall excellent restaurant for the Easter holiday!. (If you want something quiet, go somewhere else.)
The service and treatment by the staff was great. Both of our meals were great. We will return again.
I just love the seafood here, especially calamari, oyster shooters, crab cakes, and fish entrees. I love the dark wood vintage bar with its lively scene. Jakes Famous Crawfish is great for special occasions as it is expensive for an average night out. My birthday dinner came complete with a complimentary lava cake which my husband and I shared. I love Jakes especially on a cold winters night. A welcoming place and elegant too. Highly recommend!
I haven't been to Jake's since the 1970's. It is still a great restaurant. Awesome food. Great restaurant seating. Lively bar.
This place has a very cool Pacific Northwest vibe. My wife and I both enjoyed all the murals and paintings throughout the restaurant. The booth we were seated in had a very low divider between it and the adjacent booth, so it sort of felt like we were dining with the people in the booth adjacent to us, which was a little weird.
The food was very good. We had an Ahi tuna appetizer that had just the right amount of searing and seasoning but wasn't overdone - it was still satisfyingly raw in the middle. I had the seafood gumbo and it could have been a little spicier for my taste but the flavors were good. My wife had the shrimp and crab cakes and they were amazing - buttery and delicious. We had a dessert plate with three small desserts on it - a berry cobbler, a flourless cake an creme brûlée. The flourless cake was a bit dry. The cobbler was good and the creme brûlée was fantastic.
Our server was prompt and helpful. Our drinks took a long time to come out but that was the bar's fault and not hers. Overall a very good experience. I would go back.
We have been Jake’s fans sine 1992.
It continues to be a special place.
The wait staff is remarkable.
You you won’t find better food or service.
When in doubt get the etouffe.
I've been going to Jake's since 1979, and it's always been a great place for a special occasion. The menu is extensive, and I've never, NEVER had a mediocre meal there.
Great food, knowledgeable server, attentive. Hadn't been here in a while and very happy to come back!
Jake’s is always our go-to! Amazing staff and incredible food.
One of Portland’s finest eateries!
Fabulous cocktails, fine wines and great food.
We arrived 20 minutes early and the hostess was great and sat us right away. We told her we had no problem waiting in the bar if needed. She was pleasant and professional.
The waitress, Julie, was a different story. She told me she had been there only 3 months after I asked her if she new about the Bentley that used to transport folks between here and McCormick & Schmicks. She seemed to be distracted and always acting like she needed to attend to the tables next to us when attending to our table. We had to ask her multiple times to clear away our dishes between courses. Part of good service is to be attentive and not let dirty dishes linger on the table between courses. Upon ordering a second bottle of wine (4 people) she came back with it and left before opening it. We had to ask her to open the bottle when she was clearing the dishes from the adjacent table that came in after us. She acted put out that we asked for the bottle to be opened (We do not normally carry cork screws with us) It is customary in this quality of establishment that the waiter check in and while doing so fill up the wine glasses. She showed up but never touched the wine bottle (no biggy but not sub-standard service). My buddy tried to talk with her and apologize if we had done something to offend her. She blew it off and changed the topic. The service went further downhill from there. Our bill was $350.00 and we normally leave a 20% tip. We only left 10% and that was very difficult.
The seafood was excellent and fresh. It was very easy to modify menu items as we know well the types of seafood we prefer and the kitchen did a superb job in obliging our requests. Well done kitchen staff!
I highly recommend eating here but if Julie is the waitress ask for someone different.
Second visit and every bit as good as the last. Great food exercise. Exemplary service and unique ambience. Recommended.
Service was excellent but we waited 20past our reservation time. Other than that, I would come back and recommend to friends and family.
A long time classic in downtown Portland. We waited in the bar for the rest of our party, delightful server there, drinks delivered quickly. Our cozy booth with its white linens, perfect lighting for fish and seafood entrees. Our server was professional, oersonable, answered our questions, made recommendations. Chilled our bottle of white wine perfectly.. My chef's recommendation, stuffed salmon was delicious!
I’ve always enjoyed my visits to Jakes. This last trip was the first time I’ve had a waitress tell us to hurry up so they could get more people in. That’s not my problem and had she served us drinks faster we would have ordered our food faster. We still had a good time and enjoyed our food despite our clueless waitress.
This restaurant never disappoints. We had family in from out of town and I wanted to take them someplace iconic. This was the perfect place. The food was superb, with the French Onion Soup as the table favorite. The service was impeccable. The wine list was impressive. All in all, an absolutely perfect evening.
Awesome. Good selection of seafood done many different ways. Great appetizers & drinks!
