Jake's Famous Crawfish
My wife and I ate dinner here for my birthday and it was a amazing! One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! The Dungeness Crab cocktail!!!! Oh man 🔥
We chose Jake's when we visited to Portland this past week. We were NOT disappointed. The ambiance was vintage, the Christmas decorations wonderful, The place was quiet and intimate, waiter so friendly and helpful, and, the food was EXQUISITELY PREPARED! We enjoyed being back in Portland, celebrating our years of living in this great city for 40+ years.
Thank you, JAKES!
Great service and great food. I like the history of the place as well. We'll be back.
We enjoy eating at Jake’s Crawfish whenever we are in town to visit our son’s family. The food is always delish and love the ambiance and great service.
We have been to Jake’s many times. The food was good but the service slow. We could hardly hear ourselves because the background noise was very high
It was a birthday celebration, we were originally seated at the smallest table in the middle of the room. I asked to be moved to a booth which was accommodated but I thought they would have arranged a better table to start with.
Service was excellent and attentive.
Drinks were good but uninspired. I have an Old Fashion which was ordinary and could have been amped up with better fruit (like a pickled cherry , blue or blackberry) and used larger ice cubes stead of the chipped ice that waters down the alcohol faster.
Food was average in that salad was drenched with dressing , the Etouffee had few crawfish and the roux was a little flourey tasting. Artichoke and crab dip was good but prefer a grilled or toasted a s sliced baguette to the triangle cracker things that were served. The sourdough crust was too soft and tough to chew, the bread itself had good flavor though.
Overall I’m not sure I’d return, there were other dishes I should have tried that may have been better. But it’s a crawfish place so I went with what I thought was a good standard. Disappointed.
Troy was an amazing server.
He is a real credit to your establishment.
The seafood fettuccine was superb. The cod fish and chips were so-so. The service was old school amazing. Loved the ambiance and the decor and the general crowd of the place. Thank you Jake’s!
Perfect in every way! Was surprised to get all crab claws meat in my entree....a thrill indeed!
Food and overall service was excellent. Fish was fresh and cooked to perfection.
We’ve had wonderful service over the years..this one wasn’t up to Jakes level.
I would recommend , but let them know it is on the expensive side-But food is really great. Also that Valet Parking does not open for Jakes until 5 pm . Parking near is as much as a meal there.
The stuffed salmon with crab, cream cheese, and brie is a must have dish! So delicious! The crab bisque was also a must soup. We were celebrating our anniversary as well and received a menu with the date and a special note on it. Also a free dessert!
An extensive menu, well prepared and well delivered. Very attentive but not overly attentive staff. If you can't find what you want on this menu, you are a very picky eater. They will modify dishes for you and accomodate vegetarians and vegans and people with allergies well. A well-deserved Portland tradition. Also a good happy hour menu in the bar.
Comfortable setting albeit pretentious.
What a wonderful night. The place looked amazing with holiday decorations all set up. Our waiter Troy was awesome, very knowledgeable and friendly to ask questions to. Drinks came out fast from the bar. All of our food was incredible, Crab dip, my wife’s Steelhead with Horseradish crust, my Crab Tortellini and our dessert trio (Crème Brûlée, Chocolate Mousse and Berry cobbler). Love this place. The only grumble I have was the people in the booth behind me must’ve been getting their holiday started early. They were very loud, with swear words. Sitting on the opposite side of their bench at times made me feel like I was eating my dinner on a roller coaster with them moving around so much. Even with the unwanted ride I cannot wait to go back!!
Was it the most expensive restaurant I have gone to since a visit to a Michelin starred place in Rome? Yes.
Will I be back any time soon? No. But maybe some day on a special occasion.
That said it was an excellent meal and considering the service, ambiance and food quality, it probably couldn't realistically be done any cheaper.
We shared oysters. I had a baked crab leg dish that I am never likely to see in another restaurant. It was excellent and to save room for dessert (also very good) I saved some of the dish (I did eat all the crab) and side for an excellent omelette for the next morning.
Noise level was ridiculous due to the inconsiderate, unaware patrons seated at a table next to us. Once they left thankfully, the rest of our Thanksgiving Day meal was lovely. Our server - Victoria, fantastic!
My wife and had our meals delivered cold and undercooked. My mother and her husband were happy with their fish and chips. The waiter had our meals redone and he provided decent service given how busy they were. However, I picked Jakes because we expect that they will not drop the ball. Probably wont go there again. It seems ever since they were taken over by Landry's it has gone downhill
Crab and shrimp stuffed salmon is amazing! Best place in Portland for seafood. Been going there for years.
Few establishments can pull off a busy Thanksgiving without a flaw, Jake's is one of them. Our table was ready within 5 min of arriving for our 3 pm reservation and it was a full house. A surprise was to find a traditional Turkey / Ham dinner on the menu as one of the specials, the platter was a hit with one of my 'nonfish eater' guests. There's always a couple of favorites Horseradish Encrusted Steelhead and the Dungeness Crab Cakes, they didn't disappoint. If you have a special occasion with family is visiting Jake's is a must. A special thanks to all that worked, so that we were able to have an amazing dinner, your service was amazing, the food excellent.
The food and service and ambiance at Jake's is always great. We enjoyed a great non-traditional thanksgiving dinner of seafood.
Jake’s was the perfect place for Thanksgiving. A Courier & Ives holiday atmosphere along with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner or seafood specials for non traditional diners. Our waiter was attentive and made sure we left with our holiday expectations in tact.
Downtown Portland classic. If you like seafood and ambiance, you owe it to yourself to at least once go to Jakes. It's not cheap, but it's always worth it.
Jake's never disappoints! We went for Thanksgiving dinner and it was delicious. The service and the food -- all superb! We bring our Portland visitors here every time. It's a classic.
Great seafood and wonderful service. Jake's is a Portland standard, always good and always dependable.
Excellent service, outstanding food and a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
I took my deafish, elderly mother with Parkinson's and my slightly cognitively impaired niece out for what I hoped would be a treat and it was, in every respect. They are people who are rarely recognized for who they really are--vibrant, perceptive, supremely worthy human beings. And then both are serious foodies! For me the highlight was the service. I believe the young man who waited on us may have been my best server ever and I have been eating out a few times a week for thirty years. He was incredibly perceptive, kind and patient without an iota of condescension. The pan-fried oysters were what made my mother so very happy, and my niece's seafood pasta seemed to hit the spot for her, as well. It was just a lovely evening.
Love the place. Keep up the great work.
Food was great. Very home style. Old fashioned restaurant atmosphere. Server was nice. Would return.
Bones in the fish and terrible service. An awful experience for my birthday.
Great seafood and very knowledgeable serving staff. The Chocolate Bag desert is a must try.
As has been our experience in the past Jakes did an outstanding job of both service and quality of food. It was my wife’s birthday and I requested a window booth which they provided.
Always love Jake’s. Excellent service, quality food and lovely ambience.
I have been there with my brother who came from Japan by business trip. He said that he enjoyed the food, service and ambience. Also our server was so friendly and we really had great time. Thank you for everything.
Such a beautiful, old world feel, with flavorful creative dishes. Cannot say enough about the charm, the food, and exemplary service.
Classic seafood restaurant
Absolutely a must when visiting Portland
Always an outstanding experience.
