Great food in nice atmosphere. They did a great job with social distancing and safety precautions during these crazy COVID times.
All great. The restaurant deserves to have COVID behind us. Best compliment I can make,... I will be back!
It was outstanding the food was excellent, the waiter was superb. I love the place.
Food was excellent but too salty. Had to ask for the bread that was promised to us.
Never saw our waitress after she took our order. Never returned to ask how our dinner was or if we needed anything. I expected better service.
The food and service were outstanding!
As always amazing dining experience. Celebrating a birthday. My wife said “loved my horseradish crusted steelhead. Only wish they would have heated up the mini-loaf of sourdough bread.” The stuffed salmon was excellent!
Jakes has been one of our favorites for many years but they have gone so far downhill that we are not likely to go back. The place was empty for lunch and service was so slow and not friendly it was hard to imagine. The food was overcooked and very salty for all 3 people in my party. Very disappointing. In times like these I would think that what few customers you have you would make sure that they had a fantastic meal and wonderful time that would motivate them want to return and tell their friends.
Top notch service and perfectly prepared food.
Delicious as always. Professional service. It's our go to place when we want an excellent meal.
I received a confirmation email the day before the reservation that stated valet parking was available for $10. We planned to use valet, but when we arrived - no valet. When I called they didn’t apologize and seemed annoyed. Additionally, I noted on my reservation that it was my husbands birthday, but no one mentioned it. Disappointing in this environment to say the least.
They overbooked their reservation list so we ended up getting a table at the bar. Our individual server was great but they only had one bartender so they were in the weeds all night.
Awesome. I called ahead and ordered oysters Rockefeller. They were so delicious. So surprised and so happy there were a dozen of them. Chef did so awesome. Perfectly prepared. Meant to thank the chef at the time, but got caught up in the rest of the meal... Beside Chowder, I ordered steamer clams. So many I couldn't finish. I have never, never seen such little, darling clams. They were so delicious too in that white wine recipe! Wish I could find that size at the store for home.
Excellent service and all the food was delicious except my partner said his fish (fish & chips) wasn’t great. We ate outside as usual these days. The atmosphere was pleasant except for 2 pan handlers.
Food was yummy
We celebrated our 41st anniversary here. The food was wonderful and our waitress Julie was outstanding.
Spent another birthday at Jakes. Always good. Great service.
It was a nice dinner, but the place was too cold to make us feel really comfortable.
I love going to Jake’s and this visit was possibly my favorite yet. Brandon was our server and made us feel like we had the run of the place. He was taking care of all his tables this way. He made the amazing food taste even better w his spot on service. We enjoyed crab stuffed halibut and sautéed crab legs atop charred artichoke hearts. Jake’s will always be a Portland staple because they truly focus on the quality of the experience.
Miss the valet parking since parking is limited
It feels like Seafood in there. That is what we wanted and it was great experience all around!
This has been our 'go-to' spot for special occasions, family from out of town, anniversaries, and so on since the late 1990s.
Glad to see that they are hanging in there during the pandemic, and still serving portland while keeping us portlanders safe.
Awesome food and service! They make birthdays special.
Even with a pared down menu, the selections were many & varied. Excellent as always.
The service was the best! Server was attentive and got everything right. My 21st birthday couldn't have been better! He even carded me on a hard cider. Thanks for doing everything right!
Iconic. Survived two pandemics.
My review is based on a visit during Covid. And though they have done a great job of adapting, it just isn't up to the usual level of service I am used to at Jakes. Big Kudos for the efforts and I am glad I could be here for my traditional b-day meal. I am sure that they will continue to tweak their operation and get better at dining during Covid.
Always awesome. Never a disappointment.
This was the first time that we have had poor food. The crab legs were terrible, very dry and slightly off-tasting. The sauce on the pasta dish my granddaughter ordered was harsh. Even the French bread was dry. The price for our two meals was over $80 and that was without any beverages. Jakes has always been my favorite restaurant so this was a shocking change from previous meals.
I had a 7:15 reservation. We ordered drinks, appetizers and our main course. We were asked if we needed another drink at "last call" about 8:30. Little did we know it meant no dessert opportunity. What top restaurants give you no dessert opportunity when eating in the main dining room, and give you a "last call" at 8:30? Second disappointing experience since the return from COVID.
Always fun to dine here. The atmosphere feels very safe, and the service is gracious and the food delicious. Jake's staff strives to make your visit feel safe and satisfying.
This is my favorite restaurant in Portland, I am happy to see them open again. Went to Jakes last weekend to celebrate my birthday. My experiences are usually straight fives. this time it was not. There seemed to be a lot of angst among the staff. When we were walking out a patron was having a fit because he felt he waited too long to be served.
I think the concept of closing off the street is a great idea.
Great plaza seating outdoors with excellent service. Meal accommodations always considered and easy.
We had not been to Jake's in years so were most pleased to find the menu filled with a variety of tasty looking options, the service impecable, and the addition of outside dining. Each of us chose different seafood dishes, two chose the specials... steelhead in cased in horseradish and the stuffed crab and shrimp...and one staple item shrimp and chicken ettufee. All choices were delicious. The dark chocolate tort is better than remembered! The server was great. Great evening.
This is typical chain restaurant food- food from cans
My wife and I hosted 4 family members from out-of-town. Based on much experience ( I began cooking there when Doug Schmick was a bartender, for 7 seven years and went on in culinary/food for many years), we chose Jake's. We have eaten there many, many times and it has been reliably excellent. The table offered to us was poor, a 12-top next to a bus station. They found a better one for us. Service was efficient, not personable. Long wait for drinks, but busy time of night and Covid era.... The appetizers-calimari and oysters-were very good, although lack of a demi-tasse spoon with oysters made the mignonette awkward to use.The crab & shrimp cake dinner and Fish/Chips were too dark and over-fried. The people said they were OK. The crab leg saute needed help, such as seasoning. It was better when it used to be served with Bernaise sauce. The filet and salmon were perfectly cooked and delicious. The 4 people who had sides with the entrees all had the same issue. The roasted potatoes and the green beans/carrots were virtually raw and inedible. They seemed as if they never met a grain of salt. Hard, bland and raw was the unanimous feeling. It was very embarrassing and amateurish. That was a major error by the kitchen, negatively affecting 4 of 6 customers. The guests had attended a family funeral earlier and I wanted stress to stay down. So I did not complain and start sending food back. I do hope these comments make to the powers in the kitchen as well as the front-of-the-house. It was surprisingly disappointing, because it could have been so much better. I understand that in this time things are awkward and weird. But the very basic fundamentals, such as proper cooking and seasoning, need to at least be maintained. It was not up to Jake's reputation and standard. At the end, my wife and I felt as if we had taken her relatives to an over-priced tourist trap on Fisherman's Wharf. Not sure if we will return, even after years of patronage.
40th wedding anniversary. We always go to Jake’s. This Covid has hurt them bad. Very limited menu was a huge disappointment in our view .
This was our first visit since the Covid-19 shut downs. Jake's has a limited menu but still offers good seafood. We enjoyed a nice quiet dinner inside. The food was good and so was the service.
Very warm and inviting atmosphere, great service, really delicious food! Thank you for staying in business and providing us with a comfortable and safe environment.
Always a pleasure to dine at Jake's. The food is delicious, the service friendly and gracious, and the atmosphere is traditional elegance. Glad they are back open! And they are following all Covid guidelines, so dining inside the restaurant feels completely safe.
I love the idea of outside seating and inside seating. We chose to sit inside and it was perfect.
