Jake's Famous Crawfish Ratings and Reviews
Never had a bad meal at Jake’s! This visit was especially great, drinks were very good and the rainbow trout was excellent. My friend ordered calamari; I have tried it in multiple restaurants & never liked it since it was always rubbery/tough. But I tried this calamari at Jake’s and I actually loved it! Very tender & favorful. Definitely need to get to Jake’s more often. :)
We went with two friends from Austin who wanted to enjoy some Pacific Northwest seafood. We all had an enjoyable time. Our server was friendly and told us all about the menu options. She even offered a vegetarian menu for one at our table. The lobster bisque was very tasty and full of lobster. The mushroom/salmon entre was delicious. Great cocktails and an excellent wine selection. Best fish and chips in Portland. A trusted favorite by ourselves or with guests.
We arrived a bit early for our reservation and the hostess/staff were gracious and seated us immediately...even though the place was seemingly full. We were given a booth next to a party of 12 celebrating a family event with a bit of liquor. I bring this up because it could have been a recipe for my date and I having to shout at each other, but the acoustics of the dining room are very good, and we truly were not bothered by the boisterous goings-on next to us. Maybe it is the row of high backed booths... Dinner was fabulous. We enjoyed the “premium” crab claw cocktail, about two dozen crab claws with a “just right” cocktail sauce and horseradish dab if one prefers a bit of extra. That was perfect for us, allowing a great split with us each getting to spice our sauce to our tastes. I had a half dozen fresh Goose Bay oysters for my entree and they were very fresh, some of the best oysters I’ve enjoyed anywhere. My date ordered the fillet of sole special, which was very lightly breaded and topped with a caper wine sauce that couldn’t have met her tastes any better than it was served. The bottle of Chardonnay we shared was a bit overpriced in my opinion...very good, but they are proud of their wine list, judging by the mark-up. Service was impeccable, and the a la mode marionberry tart we shared at the end was a perfect finish. If you only have one night out downtown Portland, this will not disappoint you...Be sure it’s the Crayfish Grill...
The restaurant was nicely decorated for the holiday.
The service was attentive, but not overbearing.
Our server checked on us regularly, despite the restaurant was quite busy.
The food was outstanding and nicely presented.
Best crab cakes in Oregon and delicious mussels.
Definitely a great dinner!
We had dinner at Jake’s to celebrate my husband’s birthday. They were incredibly kind and accommodating with us dining with our infant son. They even brought him a toy and crackers to entertain him. After dining at several other places while we were in Portland, this experience stood out like no other. I can not recommend this place enough. Great food and even greater overall experience. We will for sure be back!!
appetizers and soup were great. (oysters / crab bisque)
Entrees were ok, we did not eat dessert. Sides with meal were not tasty.
I had a business discussion and wanted a more quiet area, in both the first 15 min and the last 30 min of my meal a family was seated very near to me and I thought with the restaurant more open (not busy) it should have been apparent and easy to ensure my discussion would be in a quiet area.
no issues with servers other than allowing my area to have loud families in an evening business setting
Last time I booked a business dinner at Jake's I asked for a quiet table for two conducive to conversation. They gave us a table in the back and 10 minutes after we were seated, they sat a large party right next to us. Loud, disappointing. Optimistically booked another table with same request a couple nights ago and this time they gave us a cramped booth and then sat a large group with screaming children right next to us. Service was typical Jakes, food too. And sure this is a corporate place but the ambience can set them above others in that space (though they're still overly anxious to sell you their silly points program). Overall value remained favorable enough, but 0 for 2 on a pretty basic request. Third strike and you're out, we all know that. May be two strikes and I go elsewhere. We'll see.
This restaurant was great the food was very good we had the Dungeness crab soup also the Dungeness crab sauteed with your artichoke was extremely good my son had the chicken salad when she liked very much call so he had me 8-ounce filet which was very well cooked done perfectly and my husband had the salmon stuffed with Dungeness crab shrimp and that was excellent as hell and for dessert my husband and I both had a berry cobbler and we had the chocolate box to go it was very well put together we like this place and will return recommend get there early so you can spend enough time you'll be in there for 2 hours easy without even knowing it thank you Jakes we will be back
What a disappointment! This used to be one of the great Portland restaurants. The food was just bland and boring. This was not the case in the past under local ownership. Decided to give it another try for old time sake. What a mistake. Food was really just awful. A large clump of bland mashed potatoes along side green beans and carrots is not very exciting with a piece of fish. Off my list. A real shame. Was a great restaurant. Not anymore.
2 of the entrees were the signature crab leg sauté and both were cold, sent back and rewarmed. Not the best. The 3rd was cod and mediocre preparation and taste made it not so good. No compensation was offered. Have a reservation for family dinner with 9 on Christmas’s Eve, will cancel and go elsewhere now.
