About Jacob Wirth
We are the 2nd oldest restaurant in Boston and the longest consecutively running tradition in the city. The original round mahogany tables and bar have welcomed one and all both young and old for over 142 years. Share a meal and moment in history where the people who built Boston did. Where Larry Bird came after walking off the court his last night of being a Boston Celtic. Most recently where Hollywood has found inspiration featuring Jacob Wirth in "Knight and Day" and "The Company Man." Where Boston"s Big Dig was drawn on napkin... Hey when you're 130 years old see if you get everything right!
We strive for great service here but sometimes things do not always go as planned. Both good and bad we would like to hear your experience and feedback. These comments can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org Thank you in advance!

Jacob Wirth Ratings and Reviews
Yummy food, including some for vegetarians, good beer, wonderful ambience (visually), but the noise level is awful--which it wasn't in the 80s/90s. There must be people who like not being able to hear each other, but I haven't met any during the decades of this creepy fad. Boston and Cambridge are full of restaurants I'd go to often if I could talk with my dinner companion(s). NYC got over it, we can too.
I hadn't been to Jacob Wirth in at least 20 years but my husband had wanted to go so off we went. What was funny, especially in hindsight, is that I had to secure my reservation with a credit card, but it must be that good that they need to know that you intend to keep your reservation. We arrived and were immediately taken to our table, and immediately I realized that my expectations were too high. Great beer menu if you are looking for likely 40+ varieties, 4 or 5 "types" of wines (no vineyards listed, just white, red...etc), and an extensive menu. Likely if you enjoy German food that would be another reason to enjoy Jacob Wirth. I went with what I thought would be safe: a burger with Boursin and mushrooms. The bun was average and not worth eating, the burger and Boursin and mushrooms were fine, the lettuce was old and wilted and the mashed potatoes were like flaked potatoes rehydrated. I understand why it's not someplace that I'll ever return to but would be rated highly by many, but it wasn't for me.
Fantastic night singing with Mel and the other patrons! Saw this place on Chronicle a little over a year ago and have made attending a tradition. It's a blast! I highly recommend giving it a try--especially with a group of friends. We went with a party of 15 and fun was had by all--ages 5-70.
We have been here several times. The food was delicious as always, but on this visit we received the worst service I have ever had when dining at any restaurant. Our waiter basically ignored us the whole time, pretty much after he found out we had a voucher we were using to pay for the meal. We asked for water several times and he never brought it to us, but was very attentive to the other tables around us. As I already mentioned, the food has been outstanding every time we’ve gone to Jacob Wirth but I’m not sure I’d go back after the terrible service experience.
My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary and it was amazing! The ambiance and food were fantastic. We had grilled bratwurst and it was very authentic and tasty. We were a little worried about the noise level so we sat a further away from the piano and the noise level was perfect for conversing. Can’t wait to come back!
The experience was disappointing. It was a Saturday night at 6pm before the shows and the place was only about 2/3 full, which seemed odd at the time. Our service was not good and I felt like the place was dirty. Every time we ordered the same drink, it came out in a different glass. We had to take our own utensils off of other empty tables. My husband had the German food and said that it was great. The rest of us had different types of salad which were just ok. My husband had gone here many times when he was younger and was raving about the place. The rest of us would not recommend it to our friends.
Monday night Trivia man was WAY TOO LOUD, and we were originally seated at the table in front of him. Requested table change as far away as possible and he was still loud. Food was inedible unlike our past experiences there. Staff was friendly but service was very slow. We have been there in the past and enjoyed it but we will not be going back.
Great Beer list. Our server was great, he was very friendly and attentive. We got our food in no time at all. The food was good. I wish the spetzel was more flavorful, and the veal was not quite as tough. Overall the meal was tasty, When I return I will definitely try something else on the menu.
Jake Wirth's has been around since before I was born. It is a lively, authentic German beer hall with many beers on tap. Wiener schnitzel, German mixed grill, hot soft pretzels for dipping, and many other German dishes are just delicious. Perfect for a casual get-together with friends.
The service was excellent. I've been going to Jake Wirth's for more than 30 years and I will certainly be back for more.
Great German food & beer.
The wait staff were friendly. Drinks, appetizers and dinner were served quickly.
Our table was located was by the air conditioner and it was uncomfortably chilly. The waitress did turn off the ceiling fan but it was still very chilly.
We did see several tables for 8 that were free but were not offered to change from the corner we were seated.
Have not been here for many years and so glad we went there for delicious German food!
Everything I had was cooked perfectly, the Wursts, German potato salad, red cabbage and sauerkraut. Delicious! And, the bread pudding with ice cream and caramel sauce was divine! Will definitely return!
The food was decent to good. I was expecting that wiener schnitzel would have been pounded thinner since this was supposed to be authentic German, but it was thick. The selection of beer was good. Atmosphere is noisy but it is what I expected for a restaurant of this type. The service was a bit slow at the start but the food came out quicker with the help from the the other severs.
I love Jacob Wirth. A bar/pub environment for all ages with good food and a huge beer on tap selection. The only reason for a "very good" on the service is because I believe our server was new and was a little slow. Otherwise he was most friendly. As for value, it's the city so it is what it is. The food was great, the beer was cold & we left happy. Check out their website to learn their history and definitely get the pretzels!!
Having eaten here several times before, we had a good idea as to what to expect with regards to the quality of food. They did not disappoint! The downfall here was the way they serve the food in that the waiter does not bring the food, and therefore may not know that you are waiting for something. This was the case when we waited over 20 minutes for basic dessert, and the restaurant was not quite half full. Once the waiter realized their oversight, he did not make it a top priority to rectify the issue and it took multiple kitchen visits for him to get two orders of strudel and a root beer float delivered. Hopefully we will have better luck next time, however given our last three visits it appears service is not a top priority here.....
The restaurant was in a perfect location for the theater later on. The food was good and the waiter was good. The only glitch was with Open Table. I asked for a 5 o'clock reservation and got a 3:15 reservation! I had to call Jacob Wirth and get an actual person who changed the reservation to 5.
