Great food- the vegetarian chili was a little too spicy but really good otherwise. Great schnitzel and cabbage. Our waiter was not very attentive and I had to walk up to the bar to ask for more water as after waiting a few minutes we could not see him anywhere. Additionally, 2 of the drinks that a member of our party ordered were apparently “not available now” even though they were on the menu. Overall, still a great meal and great ambiance.
Excellent meal, good service, hope this place stays open forever!
Just solid pub staples with traditional German options that are very good. It has a great old beer hall vibe, great tap list, and quality food. Service was also excellent for our pre-show meal.
Great place for excellent German food. Pub style atmosphere. Service is friendly and attentive. We would highly recommend this restaurant either before or after the theater.
My chicken sandwich was not warm. we and the table next to us had to get up and track down the waiter to get our checks.
I reserved for 4. I showed up with 5, and was accomodated quickly for the extra person. Everyone was very happy with the food and beverages. I've been coming here since the first month I moved here in 1980.
Very good food, service and beer.
Great classic Boston spot
The sauerbraten was not memorable, we make better at home. The service started off well, but suffered as tables filled up.
This is an iconic restaurant in Boston. Unique and authentic in all respects. Great beer and German food and all that could be expected in a genuine German beerhall!
The German food was terrible and no where near authentic. It barely had flavor and was overpriced. Very disappointed in the food as well as the service. The waiter didn't take our drink orders (we settled on the pitcher of water) and was overall disinterested in our table.
This was the worst meal any of us have ever eaten. No wonder the restaurant is for sale.
Because this was a historic restaurant, I was hoping for something different. Instead, it is a very loud place with a pub atmosphere. Seems to have a terrific selection of beers. Stick to pub food which they seem to do a reasonable job on: don't order anything fancy. If you are looking for a loud pub where you can drink with friends, this place is plausible. Quiet before-theater dinner not so much.
I was hungry when I entered and full when I left
I've always like JW for informal business day lunch - sandwiches. Tried the Weinerschnitzel on a Friday night - dreadful! Undercooked veal, tasteless schnitzel, not very hot. What a mess. My friend enjoyed the giant everything-burger. Good asparagus and bacon appetizer. General buzzing ambiance was good. Service - indifferent.
Great ambiance at an old school German restaurant. Service was great and the sing-along with Mel was so much fun!
nice for pe-theatre- reliable. quick service and vast beer selection.
We were able to get the reservation we wanted at the time we wanted. Have always enjoyed the atmosphere and food at Jacob Wirth's. Great option for pre and post theater venue. Close enough to walk from the theaters.
This place is iconic. It would be a shame for it to sell and be turned into condos. Please don't close!!!!
There are very few German restaurant in America. (I am German-born.)I thought I'd try Jacob Wirth again after not having dined there in over 20 years. Big mistake. Now i know why I hadn't been back. Thought it might be better. I order the jaeger schnitzel and my guest ordered the wiener schnitzel. They brought the entree before we had even finished our salad. I told them we were not ready for the main course. All they did was put them under the heat lights. They should have left them there and we should have paid for the salad and left. Each plate had a overcooked piece of over fried veal that was tough as leather over what looked like spaetzel. Not sure what it was. It was inedible. They were in decline food wise 20 years ago. Now the food has gone beyond bad. Sad.
Excellent as always. Great German food and great beer and the live music is fun
Great food and service. Pretty noisy if you want to have a quiet conversation. The sauerbraten was tender and delicious and the grilled bratwurst, egg and cheese sandwich was super!
Friendly staff, great German food. Definitely recommend, especially if you’re in the area to see a show.
Great food. The sampler plate was a great way to start the meal. It was a lot of food and gives you a variety of there best. The potato pancakes were very good.
Great place for a casual lunch
Great food, one of the only places in the area specializing in German food. You can have your conversation and have your meal and never feel rushed.
Really just a great restaurant
I had tickets to see Waitress and I happen to be one. I saw that this was a restaurant near the Opera House and we could do sandwiches or dinner plates. The service was good the waiter and the bussers. We felt like the food was just ok. My Rueben was really dry and my friends knockwierst was plain. This restaurant needs to upgrade the menu the establishment is very old and the menu not great.
Great German food, a local landmark, and an amazing beer selection. Wish it wasn't being sold, only hope the new owners keep it the same way!
Great food, nothing fancy! Excellent server with restaurant knowledge, menu proficiency, and humor!! A quick bite before the theatre performance at the Opera House on a Saturday night (made a 6:30p reservation just to be safe)👍
Delicious authentic German dinner in a casual atmosphere. Wait staff was incredibly attentive and service was prompt. Only disappointment was that we wrote ahead about wheelchair access and received no help actually accessing the restaurant. We were told to go around back, but the access gate was locked. Figured it out on the way out, but it was a struggle to get in.
we had an awesome time/.it felt like we were on Germany .the piano player was excellent and a lot of fun .the service was good ,the food was great ,my husband loved the german beer and I enjoyed the andry apple cider
We all got sick after our visit. We weren't sure how... but we cannot ever come back. It is strange that the next morning, 4/4 of us were nearly unable to function.
Nice atmosphere, great service, good food. Been a fav for many years.
It was busy but with reservation we sat right away so it was great lots choose from on the menu
It was Eh. The food was pretty good, but the service wasn't super. I made a reservation through Open Table and received a message that we had the table from 6:00-7:30pm and then we would have to vacate and was told if we didn't show up, they would charge us $10 per person. This was totally unnecessary as the place wasn't busy at all. The food was brought quickly enough but there was no conversation from the staff and we waited a long time to get the bill, which was a problem because we had a theater show to go to. It wasn't bad, but I don't think it is worth going back. Seems more like a place to have a good beer than a good dinner.
The food was absolutely without flavor, and the service was terrible.
Wonderful Friday night sing-along! This is what makes this place so special. Would not come here otherwise
Great German food and brews. No German restaurants north of Boston. Definately worth the drive into the city.
We celebrated my son’s 30 th Birthday and everything was perfect! The piano player/singer was fun and entertaining and the staff was fabulous! Very attentive to all 30 of us. Food was wonderful and the selection of beer was amazing! I would go back in a heartbeat.
