Jack’s Seafood Shack
BUT YOU CAN'T VACATION IN MAINE EVERY DAY!
-so we decided to bring it to you in Montclair, New Jersey. Come and pick your own live lobster, let us prepare it for you. We are BYOB (Beer and Wine only)!
Better Lobster Rolls than the Jersey Shore. Awesome home made potato chips.
Good value for what you get.. and tasty.
Only thing I questioned was their lemonade. They say its fresh and homemade, but it had a powder/artificial taste to it and no pulp.. so maybe not quite home made.
Went to Jack's in part because we had to cancel a Maine vacation. It is not Maine but did not disappoint. Had the brunch special of lobster roll, chowda and added a gigantic and terrific salad. (Connecticut lobster roll was a bit over cooked ... Would try Maine version next time.) Excellent Key lime pie for dessert. Will return but won't be a regular.
Food was so good!! Nice little quiet place to get seafood.
Good food and courteous servers. Took too long for food to come out. Came in ahead of many but got served last! Losbter tails were good for the price we paid. Mussels for appetizer is a great starter. Lobster bisque is one of the best ones i have tasted but a liitle too salty. Parking can be a challenge especially on a weekend
The Crab was outstanding, Dungeness, Snow and King, we had all 3 and all were superb. I recommend the Crab Pot so you get to try all 3 and a few clams, mussels and shrimp. The fried calamari app was very good.
First time at Jack’s. Went with friends. We’re all town locals so wanted to finally try dinner there. Website mentions 2 different seating options but doesn’t explain so we noted on open table we wanted good dining experience so we were placed ‘upper level’...slightly easier table configuration. Server was exceptional, sorry don’t recall her name but she was wonderful, engaging, attentive but didn’t hover...great at her job! Food was ok to good. My lobster tails were large and tasty, somewhat over cooked but ok. Shrimp dish diner felt shrimp was frozen and small size. Salmon eaters enjoyed their meal. The acoustics are bad - loud, no sound absorbing material on ceiling so the decibel difficult - dislike not hearing person sitting across from me! Cost was high, for no alcohol, no table bread basket, small shrimp and loudness. Understand overall dining costs in Montclair are high....therefore, I would go again and give it another go, see if some of these annoyances are eliminated at different day/time.
Service and food was excellent came out quickly. Service was very good we were seated early than our reservation
Pretty fun place. Had the 2 pound lobster and my wife had the clam belly platter. Hers were slightly over cooked but fully enjoyable and my Lobster was spot on. The lobster is cracked in advance just before arrival so eating it was a snap! Corn on the cob and cole slaw hit the spot. Would go back in a second.
Excellent food. Super Fresh. Very clean. No fishy smell
I was there with my hubby for later dinner. We’ve been to Edgewater and we’re disappointed. The place wasn’t comfortable, too loud and very hot and humid. But we like the one in Montclair. The place is nice, clean, and not noisy. The customer service is so much better than the one in Edgewater. Our waiter is excellent, but little disappointed with the food. Food is good but it could have been better. I think you should add more seasoning to taste.
Cute little place to get really good , fresh seafood. Very casual.
Service was not good. We had to grab several different people to get a soda. Waitress rarely came to our table to ask if we needed anything. There was another couple near by who was also complaining about her. She was a very nice person she just needs to be trained better. I also ordered a soup to go and it took forever. 2 lobster tails were super small and overcooked. Oysters were a little iffy. Lobster bisque was delicious.
Just back from Cape Cod and can honestly say the steamers and lobsters that I ate here were better at Jacks then they were there! Excellent service and ambience. sorry it took us so long to get there but I assure you I’ll be back soon!
We just love this place. Fresh seafood is simply prepared. Portions are generous enough for sharing but not over the top. Very well-priced for the quality- it doesn’t have to be a “special occasion “ restaurant - we choose Jack’s often!
Nice place for a casual summer evening meal. You feel like you made it to the seaside without the drive.
Pleasant surprise ! Really good food. Cute picnic tables outside casual inside. All our dishes came out at same time and we all loved our meals. Very good neighborhood spot if your in the mood for lobster and seafood
Great service and good food make this affordable BYOB place a pleasant dining experience.
Great food, nice atmosphere. Stick with the seafood. Ordered surf and turf and the steak was a bit overdone.
We are up from Florida for the summer and I wondered if I ‘d be able to find good seafood without the long ride to the Jersey shore. Look no further than Jack’s! This place is convenient, great parking, attentive staff and DELICIOUS seafood! Trust me, I live on the coast in Florida and have visited our friends in Maine, and you need to come here for seafood. We had the assorted seafood platter and the lobster Mac and cheese. Both were awesome. The breading on the seafood is very light and portions were VERY generous. We will be regulars here this summer!
Love Jacks! I had the Connecticut style Lobster Roll platter which was very tasty. However, for almost $20, the tiny portions were disappointing and not very satisfying. Everything was tiny - the lobster roll, the house salad, and coleslaw. I think $14 would be a fairer price.
I would have liked the experience more if the lights were turned down a little bit more. It was very bright inside for dinner. The food was good besides finding something in my raw oysters that was alive, unsure of what it was waitress said it was common. I’ve never seen that before. Also the price of the raw oysters wasn’t on the menu so I was a little shocked when I received the bill. Overall food was good prices were fair just wish the ambience was a little better. Not what I expected from a Montclair restaurant.
Been here many times. Food and service always great. Highly recommend
I am a huge fan of Maine and it is a favorite vacation spot for my family. this is the most authentic Maine experience you can get in NJ. Even homemade whoopie pies!
I had the king crab legs and they were yummy. My girlfriend had the lobster roll and she loved it. Potato salad, sweet potato fries and coleslaw was good also. Next time well try the lobster dinner.
Delicious food and attentive service. This is my go to place for crab legs. The decor is cute, but nothing special. It is a very casual BYOB. It totally serves its purpose if you are in the mood for fresh seafood. Really no ambiance, but the food hits the spot.
We sat on time and after that it all went downhill. Our order was forgotten about until we asked about 30 minutes after we put the order in. An excuse about the system going down was given and then our food began to come out rapidly - like it had been forgotten about. Our 5 yr old was so patient but he was hungry. The most frustrating part is that our waiter was completely unaware of his table and what was going on. We love Montclair and love many restaurants there - we won’t be back.
Loved the food, the polite and efficient service and the dollar value for quality in this neighborhood. Definitely returning!
Concert night out
Wonderful place to eat. Wonderful and friendly staff
What a delicious find. We'll be back a lot this summer!!
Jack’s is my new favorite restaurant. Food was outstanding and cooked perfectly. Reminded me of being at the shore. Can’t wait to go back!
Excellent Connecticut Lobster Rolls with warm drawn butter. Remembered to bring a bottle of wine for additional enjoyment.
Absolutely excellent! I came with my mom not knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the food and the service. We'll be back!
Great Maine-like experience in Montclair. Great seafood and comfort foods. Try the lobster mac and cheese!
I drove 1.5 hrs specifically for the lobster bomb,
And it didn't disappoint! It was the best lobster dish I ever put into my mouth. The bowl was full of creamy delicious lobster. It was $37 but very well worth the price. My sister enjoyed her lobster rol as well. It was not huge, but very full. Totally enjoyed my lunch and our waitress was a doll.
Wasn’t really worth the money.
Have been here many times. You feel like you are at the shore with a very laid back feel
Delightful surprise - we never expected this experience to be as good as it was - don’t let the exterior (or straggling bad reviews) fool you! We’ll be back for sure!
The place is great. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is fun.
The staff could be a bit more attentive, but overall a great place to dine. I will definitely go back.
