An nice neighborhood restaurant with a varied menu, casual atmosphere and good service. We've been to Jack's about 6 times over the past 4 months and it's been consistently good. The menu features a variety of healthy choices, including gluten-free, as well as very good sea food and pastas. It features a good wine list, a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, and given the quality of the food, price is very reasonable. Jack's is not fancy, but it does offer very good dining in a pleasant atmosphere with good service. You will not be disappointed.
Jacks is a warm friendly place where you can go for a special occasion or spur of the moment out to dinner night. Great fish, the halibut is delicious and done just right. Martinis are excellent and a very nice selection of wines. Best seafood around for a nice quiet pleasant dinner.
THIS WAS OUR FIRST VISIT TO JACK'S. OUR MAIN DISHES WERE BOTH SPECIAL.
MY HUSBAND HAD TROUT ALMADEDIN AND I HAD CHILIAN SEA BASS.
BOTH WERE EXCELLENT AND THE PORTIONS WERE LARGE. WE WERE TOO FULL
TO TRY THE DESSERT WHICH SOUNDED SO GOOD. WE WERE SEATED
IN THE SOUTH ROOM. CAREFUL WHERE YOUR SIT AS THE AIR-CONDITIONING
CAN BE ALITTLE UNCONFORTABLE. WE ALSO WOULD LIKE TO TRY THEIR LUNCH
MENU. OPEN TABLE DID IT AGAIN. NEXT TIME WE GO TO JACK'S WE PLAN TO GO
EARLY AND HAVE A DRINK AT THE BAR. WE PLAN TO EAT AT JACK AGAIN SOON.
This restaurant was a surprise. We had no expectations other than a reasonably nice and quiet meal. It fully met that expectation. But we were very impressed with the wide availability of gluten free selections. It is hard to dine out with such folks, but even the gluten free food was so good that it makes one think that going gluten free would not be so bad! This restaurant can make everyone happy.
The veal was the most tender I have had in some time. The white bread had a perfectly crispy thin crust and soft flavorful center. All the dishes were excellent.
If you order pizza, and it comes with garlic, and your server mentions that it comes with a lot of garlic, you may want to ask them to go lighter then normal. Of course, you can always pick off a few pieces if it really is more than you prefer. That is probably the best thing to do to preserve the full taste experience, while adjusting to taste at the table.
This was s nice relaxing upscale meal experience. You should certainly try it out.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Jack's. It did not disappoint. The food was fresh and delicious (and I am very picky). In addition, the service was excellent. I have already recommended Jack's to several of my friends.
The food is consistently good, the drinks are great and the people are friendly. Our favorites dishes are the trout and the lamb.
The food and the ambience never disappoint. We enjoy bringing friends here whenever we are in town. Great attention to service and the food is well prepared with fresh ingredients.
Going there for a few years and found that the last two times there the Turner Sole was dry.
Waitress kind of abrupt & not very welcoming. Sloppy service - actually spilled wine while pouring from the bottle & didn't clean up, ditto with water service. Pasta was over cooked & marinara was very thick & tasteless. Comped us corkage when we gave them feedback on the pasta. Have been here twice now & both times came away disappointed - probably won't be back.
Enjoyed the lemon sole and Caesar salad. Very friendly staff, outstanding service. Casual spot, popular with the locals.
We have an early dinner there before catching a show at the Coach House. Perfect for that..we split the Seafood special which was Halibut and a Salmon salad. Both were good. Main dish took a little long to be served but we were talking in a hurry so it was fine. We had a window seat so lighting was fine, locals were there having fun, we struck up some conversation and had a good time. Good local restaurant! Would go back.
Located in Dana Point's newly developing walking downtown, this spot has great food and wonderful service. The staff were polite, upbeat, attentive and the food was tasty and fabulous. Easy parking. We will continue to dine at Jack's
Excellant food..7pm dinner was busy so dinner service was slow for food arrival...still go back...great for dinner conversation we were all able to hear each other which makes it a adult family or romantic place.
I was in the area and decided to try a 2nd visit to Jack's. There is construction outside, which made it difficult to access, but I am glad we did. Food was good, my friend and I both had fish (orange roughy and trout), and both were delicious. Love the background music, "Sinatra-style" classics. Will return again.
Okay, the street is a mess with all the re-design ... but it's worth the trouble to park and go in, relax, have a drink and a great dinner.
The owner had recommended the pizza so I finally tried it. Tasty. Crust a little dry.
In general food here is good & atmosphere is pleasant.
This was my first visit, and came with friends who recommended it. a nice Cesar salad, beautiful grass-fed steaks, and finished with a delightful GF brownie that you'd never know was gluten free. I shall return!
This is a 45 minute drive for us, so we only come here on special occasions. It is always worth it.
Great food and friendly service. Never have a problem finding something for each of us,
despite having widely different tastes.
We'll be back!
Always a wonderful experience, great food & fantastic service!
We enjoy Jacks on a regular basis. Normally, we meet friends there for dinner. Always a solid "performance".
Jack himself meets you at the door. We were promptly seated. Great waiter. Food was excellent and served promptly. Reasonable prices. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
Jack's is a long time neighborhood favorite. Jack himself is friendly and offers a warm greeting.
The food id good to very good. many of the Italian cuisine offerings are top notch. I had the Turner Whole fish sole and my wife had the halibut. Both were done to perfection and very enjoyable.
Jack's is favorite local restaurant for a good reason. We love the food, the drinks and the people.
We got a pasta special with filet. Not much meat for the price. It was OK but nothing to get excited about.
The cocktails are great and the food is always good. The lamb is delicious and worth a try. The people are very friendly and accommodating.
The quality of the food is always good, I love the salmon and I like that the entrees come with a salad and you don't have to pay extra for it...nice touch. The owner is almost always there....the place is well run and the servers do a good job without being intrusive. We will return.
Jacks is an awesome place for many occasions. A quick glass of wine and a pizza is just as great as a large family gathering. The staff is professional but welcoming and friendly. The food is amazing, the eggplant is a must try and the seafood pasta and filet are my very favorites. Everyone can find what they are craving in one great place. I go back as often as possible and have never been disappointed.
We love the food at Jacks. The salmon and meats are fresh and delicious. We love that salad and sides come with the meal and enjoy date nights as often as we can at Jacks.
we come there often.the service is always great.we usually get paste, salads and egg plant appetizer.we were hungry for pizza.i looked on line and saw they offer pizza. the pizza was really not worth the $19.00.the crust was cracker like very dry.the cheese, sauce and toppings were very sparse and tasteless.i used allot of red peppers to get some flare.honestly a round table $12.88 special is a much better value.other than that we will be back.
It's always a special occasion to dine at Jack's Restaurant. Jack and his staff always provide a warm, friendly environment, delicious food, and attentive service. The Turner New Zealand rack of lamb cannot be topped.
Our service was very good but after reading the reviews i expected more. My salad was old with white pieces instead of being green and fresh. My Veal Marsala was a bit tough served with a lot of over cooked veggies. I would probably try something else in the neighborhood. It appeared to be a local hangout which is why it got high marks.
Servers were more interested in watching TV than attending to customers. The place was half empty , the TV was too loud but we never received water despite asking 3 times. Finally, the bartender left the bar and poured water. The vegan grilled carrots were burned and looked like 5 little turds on a plate. The warm salmon was overlooked and tasteless. Servers were more interested in watching the hockey game on TV rather than attending the customers. We invited guests from out of town and it was embarrassing to have such poor service. would rarely visit this place again.
Jack's is always a great meal and a very friendly staff.
Jacks is on our circuit of reliable and worthwhile local dining establishments where we know we will get excellent food, excellent cocktails, excellent service and a warm neighborhood feel brought by Jack and his staff. If you are in Dana Point and you don't stop at Jacks you are missing a great experience.
We have been coming to Jacks for years. And there is a reason for that....delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and surperb service! So when my husband was planning my "surprise" birthday party this year, he went to Jacks. We had a private room and the evening was great! Our guests were totally impressed with the food (especially the Turner Filet Mignon...amazing!!) and our server was stellar! Memorable evening...thanks Jack!
Been wanting to go to Jacks for awhile and finally made reservations for the "big" evening. Fixed menu was underwhelming and hope non holidays are better options and quality!
Wonderful little find for dinner on Valentine's Day. Food was excellent. We had a great time. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming.
Jack's in Dana Point is a gem of an upscale restaurant with great food and service.
We enjoyed Chilean Sea Bass and Filet Mignon for Valentine's Day, and both were delicious.
Owner and host Jack makes sure that his customers are warmly greeted and graciously served, ensuring a special dining experience.
Of the 5 of us who ate here on a recent Friday evening, 3 had enjoyable meals...the 2 who ordered the seafood risotto were very disappointed. The risotto was underdone, mushy and had a red sauce (unusual for risotto). One person in the party had the meal sent back and asked for pan seared scallops instead. The waiter accommodated this change but the scallops came out a little underdone. The waiter said he wouldn't charge us for the meal but developed an indifferent attitude towards us after that. The meal quality wasn't his fault but he seemed to take offense anyway. We had been here before and had wonderful meals so this may have been an aberration. We will think twice about visiting again.
Jack's is great when you don't know what you want to eat before you leave the house. The menu is wide and they do a great job on everything that is on the menu. Meat to fish to salads.
