Jack's Oyster House
Opened in 1913 by Jack Rosenstein, the restaurant has been continuously operated by the same family and is now under the direction of grandson, Brad. Joined by Brad is Executive Chef Larry Schepici. Together, they work to create the ultimate dining experience for you each and every time you visit. In their dedication to the tradition of Jack’s, they have developed a menu to satisfy their faithful clientele as well as delight a new generation of Jack’s customers. Chef Schepici's exciting and unique cooking style, along with our staffs' warmth and hospitality, will make for many memorable dining moments.
Everything was lovely. Service and food were both great.
I, and my wife, found our dinners not be particularly tasty, at least up to the standards I would expect from a restaurant with this kind of history.
the food was expensive, $ 26 for 2 crab cakes and a little lettuce. wait staff was good but the choice of the menu was limited
Went for a mothers day lunch and everything was great, the soup was especially good.
We loved the quiet and semi private seating, the filet mignon, scallops, New York strip were cooked to order and cooked to perfection. House dressing was very tasty. All our celebration are held here
Classic steak house we chose for lunch to celebrate daughters graduation. Good service. Good Manhattan clam chowder and crab cakes. Several of our group ordered cheese burgers one of which was way under cooked. Our waiter made good on that after it was brought to his attention. Nice local craft beer offering. Convenient to Albany arena where ceremony was held.👍🏻
We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The restaurant was quite busy, but the atmosphere was quiet and calming. We were not rushed at any time during our meal. The waitress was pleasant and helpful, however, we waited for quite some time for our drinks to start our celebration. Overall, the food was delicious (salmon and crab cakes ) and fresh. It was our first trip to Jack's and we would most certainly recommend it to friends and try it again when we are in town.
The food was outstanding, the service was awesome, and a great time was had by all!
We were only the 2nd table in the restaurant when we arrived. Then it was busy, but our server was very sweet but slow. Food was ok, the chowder was excellent. A bit overpriced for what we ordered.
Concert at Times Union Center
VERY AVERAGE FOOD at above average prices. We will not be returning.
I love Jacks, the food, service & atmosphere is second to none. You can’t find that old time era atmosphere I love so much anywhere these days as well. Food is a bit on the pricey side, but makes up for it for taste. We had the filet mignon and it was fantastic. I’d recommend Jacks and will be going back myself soon.
Jacks is always a great experience. The food is great and the service is outstanding. Very traditional establishment for a fancy night out.
Food and ambiance were terrific. We ordered steaks and seafood, and each were prepared perfectly. We’ll be back for more!
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. My wife and I were there for our anniversary dinner and had a very pleasant time.
Everything was perfect, my son & I stayed at the Fairfield Inn next door and it had started raining... it was 600 feet to the restaurant. The menu was exciting and our waiter was knowledgeable and personable. We had an excellent experience.
Jack's has always been an excellent restaurant and we were not disappointed on this visit.
Our thanks to the staff for the great service! We will see you again soon.
I visited with my mother for Easter Brunch. It was disorganized and the food was not very good. Our server was very nice, but not very attentive. Disappointing considering my past experiences at this restaurant.
When visiting Albany, we always have a meal at Jack's. The food is consistently delicious and service welcoming. During our last visit we had Easter Brunch. The taste of the food and selection for the buffet were perfect. The salads were fresh and crisp with the right amount of dressing. The salmon was my favorite entree and the ham and lamb at the carving stations had great flavor. The only issue with this experience was the replenishing of the lunch buffet items. There were plenty of breakfast items to enjoy but we were more interested in lunch. It could have been our timing as our reservation was 1:15- maybe in between brunch and dinner. This will not prevent a return trip, we always enjoy our meals.
This was the first time they offered a brunch buffet and it was loaded with delicious options. Signed the guestbook so I can be notified when they will hold the next one.
Possibly the worst 130$ I’ve ever spent. The service was beyond slow, plate was hot enough to give burns ; yet the food was completely cold. Ordered the steak Diane, 3 pieces of random cuts of steak covered in poorly made sauce. They sat another couple about 15 inches away from us while the whole room was open. The waiter was completely unprofessional and nowhere to be found most of the night. Would never go back.
Leon was a fantastic waiter and bartender. He made my special cocktail perfectly and my friend who had a bloody Mary said it was her best ever.
We will be back next year for our Chorus Competition!!! This is our fifth year at Jack's.
We had a good meal. The crab cakes were good and the chicken venezia was delicious. Service was very slow-we did not get bread until we asked and we waited at lest 15 minutes after we finished our meal for our server to come back so that we could pay the check.
The atmosphere at Jacks is old school and we really like that. Also the house Chardonnay is really good!
When we want a stellar dinning experience Jack's Oyster House is our go-to spot! Especially for special family events since my wife wouldn't think of going anywhere else and nor would I.
We had an amazing dinner!! Can’t wait to go back.
food was delicious but I thought a bit overpriced. The waiter insisted I have a "splash" of wine with my dinner even though I said no and then proceeded to charge us $10 for it...not cool. I would think twice about going back. Oysters were AMAZING though!!
Basically, the restaurant was great - our only complaint was that the shrimp cocktail, while delicious, was skimpy for the 16.95 price (and we’re New Yorkers, used to high prices!) - 2 jumbo shrimp, and one large shrimp! Other than that, our two dinners - Steak and Stuffed Lobster Tail - were wonderful!
Excellent as always
Great service. Bartender friendly and engaging. Waiter very professional and helpful. He knew exactly when to say something and when not to interrupt. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and provided very useful information. My steak was cooked to perfection. We look forward to coming again.
DINED AT 5:30 PM ON A SATURDAY. EVERYTHING WAS FINE EXCEPT FOR THE CONDITION OF THE RESTROOM WHICH WAS UNCLEAN. JACK'S HAD OPENNED AT 4:30 PM AND IT WAS OBIVIOUS THAT THE STAFF FAILED TO INSPECT THE CONDITION OF THE RESTROOM BEFORE OPENNING. THE LACK OF ATTENTION TO DETAIL WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING AND SHOWED A LACK OF INTEREST IN THEIR APPEARANCE TO CUSTOMERS.
Always enjoy my meals at Jack’s and while this time the Delmonico Steak was a little tougher than I had hoped, the service was outstanding, the ambiance ideal for a good business discussion and overall another solid dining experience in Albany!
Sadly, this establishment is in serious decline. I viewed the menu online and was certain I could have something other than beef or fish. That was not the case. The menu has shrunken substantially. No chicken, no vegetarian. We had a novice waiter who brought me the $99 bottle of Jack's Special Cabernet instead of the $69 bottle I had pointed to and then proceeded to break the cork in the bottle. At one time, this was the hottest restaurant in Albany. The decor is great and it is strategically located. Granted, it was a Monday night. But when we arrived at 6:30, only 3 or 4 tables were occupied and no one else arrived. We basically closed the place at 8:30. Salad was good, filet mignon was very good and my desert was great. But changes need to be made to this venerable establishment or I fear it is not long for this world.
We were visiting from out of town. We are used to New York City and Westchester restaurants. The food was generally very good, as one would expect for these prices, but not presented with much in the way of options. For example, the salad was served with dressing already on it, without any option to have it on the side, or have oil and vinegar or another dressing alternative, or no dressing. One member of our party didn't eat her salad as a result. The waitress was enthusiastic and friendly, but quite obviously untrained and inexperienced. The wine list to our untrained eyes was reasonable and reasonably priced -- Caymus for $150 was the most expensive wine on the list.
All in all, not a bad dining experience, but I wouldn't go back.
March 20, 2019 - First visit to Jack's with my husband before seeing Fleetwood Mac at TU. Food was out of this world, atmosphere was excellent and our server, Kendra was the best. We had been overlooked after we had been seated and they asked Kendra to take our table and she was terrific. Very personable and always with a smile. She had us in and out in time for the concert. Also makes a tasty lemon drop martini. Thanks, Kendra for the wonderful service.
Our favorite place to go before a concert is always Jack's and this past pre-Fleetwood Mac dinner didn't disappoint! We brought a friend who had never been before and he was very impressed.
We ate at the bar, the food was excellent but the service lacked. Not because Bill isn't good at his job but because he was constantly bringing dirty dishes in back and picking up orders of food. At the end of my dinner it took over 20 minutes for coffee and the dessert order was wrong. In a high restaurant like Jack's they should have bar backs, runner and bus boys to assist the servers. The overall experience was a disappointment
Jack’s is a fine dining experience and not ideal for young families. Dinner for two, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 glasses of wine was $110. Service was competent and atmosphere adequate. Food and presentation exceeded contemporary norms. We were heading to a concert so we couldn’t fully enjoy the experience. We will return during our next visit to Albany and I would recommend Jack’s.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Jack's this year. Our waitress was wonderful and the food was good. Jack's still gives you a "Polaroid" for your special occasion. A real classic!
Top notch service and delicious food.
We die here often. Food and service are excellent!!
