About Jack's Oyster House
For nearly a century, Jack’s has been an integral part of Albany’s landscape. Long considered the hot spot for politicians and the famous, Jack’s ambiance is reminiscent of the clubby New York style restaurants so in vogue today.
Opened in 1913 by Jack Rosenstein, the restaurant has been continuously operated by the same family and is now under the direction of grandson, Brad. Joined by Brad is Executive Chef Larry Schepici. Together, they work to create the ultimate dining experience for you each and every time you visit. In their dedication to the tradition of Jack’s, they have developed a menu to satisfy their faithful clientele as well as delight a new generation of Jack’s customers. Chef Schepici's exciting and unique cooking style, along with our staffs' warmth and hospitality, will make for many memorable dining moments.

Jack's Oyster House Ratings and Reviews
Food was exceptional. Traditional seafood and steaks done with exceptional preparation and service that defies our time and current culture. Dinner was more than a meal. It was a culinary experience. The service was exceptional. The wait staff are educated on the menu and not novices.
Top notch for Albany or any place
We visited Jack's for the 1st time on Saturday evening. We had read some not so great reviews, so we were curious. But it was wonderful.
We were seated quickly, drink orders were taken and filled in moments, the waiter was attentive without being over zealous. The food was wonderful. It was hot when it arrived, was flavorful and had very nice portion sizes.
The restaurant was a little pricey, but not ridiculously over priced.
The only negative was that is was a bit chilly in the dining room we were in, so I kept my jacket draped over my shoulders. Everything else was great.
We will return with obnoxious regularity!!!
Overwhelming feeling that Jack’s is struggling. Stopped in on our way home to New England for what we thought would be a Christmas prelude. No decorations, none- not even a wisp of autumn. Bathrooms were
marginal when it comes to cleanliness. Food was, at best, uninspired. Only good spot was very pleasant waitstaff.
Disappointed with Thanksgiving event. Service was very slow. Dinner from start to finish took three hours. Took a good 20 minutes before we saw our waiter. We ordered drinks and had to wait long time for delivery. All in all everything was too slow. This was out second time at Jack's for Thanksgiving. Very doubtful returning next year.
My wife and I had a nice Thanksgiving Dinner. It was my first time there and I thought it was nice. Some of the old pictures on the wall were neat. We would go there again to check out the other items offered on the menu some other time. I thought the staff was nice and attentive.
Had a reservation that they accepted through Open Table only to show up to a closed restaurant with staff standing inside behind a locked door. It was a late reservation (9:30 pm) but we had 8-10 people and big appetites! Real loss for Jack’s that night and probably beyond!
It was our first time at Jacks and the experience was wonderful. The service was great, we didn't feel forgotten about, which can happen in a large place with a lot of costumers around. Our food was on time, and I didn't feel like I was waiting forever to get a dish. The shrimp cocktail fish were HUGE and worth every penny. The menu pricing is a little high but if you're willing to pay for quality food and awesome service then it's worth it.
A downtown Albany staple which consistently awes. The baked cod is the best, better than anything you would find in New England. Love the presentation and the use of fresh vegetables in season. This is a special place, it is no wonder it is in business for over 100 years.
The service was extremely slow. The server does it all, busing tables, making drinks and running food. She did it all with a smile but we were often left waiting for a drink or for everyone to have their food.
Crab cakes, filet and stuffed lobster were all delish. Salmon was over cooked and for the price it should have been on the mark.
Would go again, even with slow service. Jacks is an institution. And worth the stop.
We frequented Jack's often for a number of years, then a few years back we had a very bad meal there, we were put out by it and felt for the money , the word BAD should not be synonymous with Jack's. We did not return till this weekend. Boy they were spot on, that is to say, the place, people, and once again the food was JACK'S AS USUAL. PERFECT. my only miss was the exotic oyster were all gone (Saturday night ?) the blue points were fresh and juicy , but I can usually get that variety anywhere. They did name it Jack's Oyster House. Don't leave with out checking out the dessert menu.
Great personal reception and immediate seating. Our waitress Taylor was a gem. Friendly ,efficient and knowledgable. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Lobster tail was huge and fresh. No drawn butter was a disappointment but should have asked. Excellent Creme brûlée to finish off the evening.
3 sisters getting together, which rarely happens. One lives out of town and was here for long weekend. She loved every bit of her petit beef and salmon dinner. 2nd sister enjoyed all but her red cabbage, which had an addition that detracted from the cabbage flavor. I agreed. May have been a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon? I had only the Jack's boat chowder. It was good enough. Ordered the caesar salad without addition of anchovies, but was disappointed that no anchovy flavor was present in the dressing at all. That is what I was expected. My white Italian wine choice was very good. We had a great server, knowledgeable and super personality! Oh...chose a booth but wow...very straight and hard on the back. All in all, we had a wonderful dinner together and hope to do so again in the the near future. Thank you.
We have been here several times and unfortunately we will not being going back. First we get there and the hostess wanted to give us a table outside the bathroom. So we asked to have a table in main dining room. He stated oh yea sure but the leg room is tight, we have sat in the booths in main dining room before and there was no problem with leg room. Then we sat at our table for a good 10 minutes before we were approached. The restaurant had a very high volume odor of bleach. It was terrible. Other patrons were annoyed by this odor also.
Then we get our food and my husband's steak was fatty, unseasoned Nd way overdone )ordered medium rare). My steak was also overdone ( asked for medium rare).
The quality is not the sMe and unfortunately for the price we will not be returning
Of course, Jack's is a landmark restaurant in downtown Albany, and we enjoy dining there when in the area. The NY Strip was delicious, just the way I like it, ordered medium rare, and was done to perfection. Also tried the Boat Chowder, which was superb, and nice and hot, exceptional flavor. Thank you.
