We went for Valentine’s Day and made a reservation ahead of time.
Pros. We got there on time and the wait wasn’t long at all.
Our waiter was amazing, super sweet, kind and knowledgeable. He ended up buying us a glass of champagne to make up for the inconvenience that we dealt with. The food was also outstanding. That and the service were worth the price
The cons. Even though we had a reservation they seated us basically on top of other people at the tiniest bar top table not at the bar. We could barely fit our waters and drinks at the table never mind any food. When our apps came and we realized we didn’t have room to eat we asked if there was a way to be sat at any of the bigger tables that were now open. We were told those tables were only for people with reservations.....20 min later those 3 tables were filled by couples only. We also had a reservation so why we were specifically stuffed at the tiniest table was beyond me. This may seem like a complaint just about the small table but it also meant we were two feet away everyone around us and from the door which are all heavily trafficked areas. So not only was it difficult to eat because of space on the table itself, it was difficult for us to even eat without being hit by a passerby. Which I know a lot of people think this pandemic is over but it isn’t. It didn’t seem as Covid friendly as we hoped, which may also be because it was Valentine’s Day. But for the price we paid were were hoping we were be more comfortable in all aspects of our meal.
All in all I would say this. Maybe go here on a less in demand day or night and protocols will be better followed. Make sure you are sat at a table with space and everything else will be worth it.
Service was terrible, told the waiter we wanted sauteed mushrooms and brought out mash potatoes. We asked for our mushrooms, when they came out they were bland.
My fiance and I had a nice time here for dinner. The only things that bummed us out about the evening were the noise level of the restaurant and space. We had to talk quite loudly to one another just from across the table. We also felt pretty cramped being put along the edge of essentially a walkway that the wait staff and servers were using. The food was wonderful and all the staff was very nice. Just wish it was more of a quite, personal meal.
Absolutely amazing!!! Table was a little small. Service and food amazing
Great bartender! Awesome music, not too loud where you can’t talk which is always a nice thing. Drinks and food are always on point. Happy hour is deff a plus.
Food and service were excellent
Jack’s is a great place and I’ve been here before but I feel like they are NOT aware of COVID restrictions. While at a booth, they set up tables less than 6 feet away just to squeeze more people into the restaurant.
It was totally unsafe and we left quickly after that. I understand wanting business but not at the risk of others health. I would not recommend you go here during the times of COVID.
OMG!!! The food was absolutely GREAT! My second time there and i would definitely be back ❤️
Perfect worth the price
Excellent steak. Drink was a good size and good ambience
We had my sisters birthday gathering staff was great very welcoming. We had great time.
Great experience! The service was absolutely amazing!! And the food cooked to perfection!!
Attentive service. Great mussels. Steak portions small and overpriced, prepared in average fashion.
They were out of many alcohol options which threw a curve. Out of a couple good items. Concerns about possible closure.
Came here with a friend for dinner to celebrate our birthdays this month because our reservation at Elm City Social was cancelled due to a possible covid related case. We had made a reservation but they only had bar seating when we arrived, it was ok with the dividers. The food was good and our drinks were good until we both witnessed a bartender pulling her mask down, smelling drinks and serving them. She would pull her mask down before serving a drink it looked like she would smell it then proceed to serve it. It was just something so bizarre something I’ve never seen a bartender do so I called the establishment and questioned it and got no real answer because it’s not ok on a normal day let alone a pandemic. If it hadn’t been for this incident I would have definitely considered going again. We do have it recorded. I had one mixed drink before realizing what was going on. I really would have loved this place if it weren’t for that. The steak was sooooo sooooo good! But next time we’ll just wait for Elm City Social to open because it seems like they are taking things a bit more serious. If they have cameras in there I’m sure they themselves can see what I’m 🥴
Expensive meal - steaks were severely overcooked and the rest of the meal was mediocre. Definitely overpriced for the quality!
Fred was an awesome server and went above and beyond. Food was awesome
Get together w friends
Its was good but a little crowded to be safe for COVID 19 but the food was good
The food was decent. Not as good as I hoped. The tip is included in the bill (18%). My waiter never brought out our dessert even I paid for it. So he basically got a tip even though he forgot a portion of our meal and it was my wife's birthday. If I go back, it would be just for appetizers and beer.
Seating outside due to COVID-19. Went for restaurant week and was not disappointed. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Food was amazing. I had chicken with a hot pepper sauce and potatoes which was out of this world. Tiramisu was one of the best I’ve ever had! Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a low key, friendly and delicious place!
The food was not worth the money. The margarita pitcher literally had no liquor in it. Not worth it
We went for Restaurant Week 2020 and we both ordered the three course dinner. We went at happy hour on a Thursday and sat inside where the seating was limited and the booths were separated with plexiglass. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately.
We started with glasses of wine and I ordered oysters. They were cold, delicious and opened expertly. Next I had the mozzarella with tomatoes and basil. The tomatoes were not from the garden but they were good. He had a salad which was very good.
We both ordered the wet NY strip which came with fries. Both were cooked to our pleasure and were served cut into nice strips. The sauce was a bit too salty for me. We both enjoyed our selection and the portions were perfect. We didn’t have left overs.
We both had the tiramisu with expressos. The tiramisu was delicious.
The service was superb. Our server was engaged and personable. He was knowledgeable and efficient. The Maître d’ even came over to ask how we were enjoying the meal. We were not rushed and the staff even engaged in some conversation which was welcomed considering that we have been staying home due to the pandemic.
The other tables were filling up so we did not linger even though we were quite comfortable. The ambience was great.
The food was great. I was surprised that the tip was added onto the bill for a party of two at 18%.
Casual setting with great food. Tuna app, seafood ravioli and strip steak were great!
We decided to try Jack’s after seeing photos Instagram posted by a friend. The ambiance was classy casual and very comfortable. Our server was attentive and answered questions. Cocktails were generous and well prepared.
We started with Popcorn Shrimp and Grilled Octopus apps. The octopus was delicious but a very small portion (compared to like-sized apps at similar restaurants.) The shrimp was also very good.
Entrees were snapper and the small filet mignon. Both excellent.
I was surprised a bit by the check. A cosmopolitan was $16; Jameson on the rocks was $14. Higher than expected, but I can live with that. I am likely to return. There are many more small plates that we’d like to try.
Very small portions for the price,
Shrimp very tiny as well,
Will pass on food, drinks ok
Great food and the cocktails were excellent
Food was delish, so were the spiked lemonades!
Only seen the server 3 times once to take our order and bring our food finally to give us our bill. On top of that it was a 18% gratuity added to the bill. Which was too high for the lack of customer service. Other then that first and last time.
The food was delicious and my red sangria was awesome
Food was okay :) service okay as well
Never a bad meal and always great service. I would definitely recommend Jack’s.
Jack's has always been a favorite (pre-Covid) but the changes to the menu, prices and all and all food presentation is not what it use to be. Ordered the Kobe Beef Burger for $22 and it was a plain ole burger and thought the bread was stale. Food prices went up substantially and I question a restaurant's decision not to have proper silverware or glasses when being served inside the restaurant. I had wine in a plastic cup (and there was only one choice for a chardonnay) and the poorest quality of plastic utensils. Are they unable to meet guidelines for properly cleaning dishware?
We will not go again.the server was inexperienced
Great! A little expensive...
Friendly service. Food took a while. A bit overpriced, to us, but we will be back.
Perfect food and perfect service EVERY TIME!! Jonathan was our waiter and he was incredible. I truly think this is one of the best new spots in new haven.
Great food and people
very unique steakhouse menu with some great latin, hawaiin, seafood flavors mixed in. Something for everyone with still a very focused menu. The Man's salad and Ceviche were amazing and yet steaks cooked to perfection. College st is a foody part of New haven- great location. Its casual and has a pub ambiance but there were families there and a few romantic corners so its got everything. Did a nice job of being Covid Smart with handling of menus, food and cleanliness! Great father's day dinner
